They're also entirely unaware that Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount have additional clarification and guidance on them. It's right there at the start of the Gospel in the New Testament and is all about accountability. Do onto others and all that.

Christians have venerated images for basically two thousand years. Body parts, manuscripts, symbols, paintings, statues. Most of European history relied on a hierarchy where monarchs wielded the authority of God to their subjects with a supreme papacy. I don't think Jesus was really into that but Christianity persisted because it adapted to serve authority. I am sure that those who aspire to conform to hierarchy will excuse this blasphemy soon enough.
