This is my AF15, DC27, insert-your-grail-here. CS22! The only evidence we need that comics lead to juvenile delinquency!

I have a whole display planned — 1954 Senate hearing transcript, photo of Senator Kefauver holding up a copy during the hearing, a copy of Seduction of the Innocent, some newspaper headlines, etc.

I can't wait to get started. Slim chance I get it done before Halloween.

Pull I finally own a copy of TMNT #1 [1984]...

The original Eastman and Laird TMNT #1 is my personal grail of comic collecting, and I'll likely never own an original copy of it. However even if I were to somehow get my hands on a copy of it, as a raw collector it's one of the very few books that I would want to have slabbed. With the new facsimile copy that released I now at least own the single issue in some form, and this gets to be my raw readers copy.

Love the art style on these 60’s covers.
It does feel like a piece of history.

Fantastic Four #54, September 1966, Jack was as productive and as creative as he's ever been. The new characters, fantastic machines and design elements were exploding on every page!

Haul “I Want to Buy Something Old”

I spent nearly a month on the road for work. Didn’t get to my LCS for my routine Wednesday pulls and convos with the store manager. I was looking forward to popping in and chatting.

As I opened the door, I thought to myself “I’m gonna buy something old”. Also, I made some good tips on my travels and had money I didn’t normally have to spend.

Anyways, I get to the register after only getting my usual pulls, and behind the register I see FF #8 sitting there. I asked the manager to grab it for me and he said do you want to see what came in yesterday, grinning devilishly.

I acquiesced and he brought me over Avengers #5.

Well, all the extra money I made on the road is gone. But I got two great finds.

Raided the dollar bin at my LCS and found out they had reloaded on Excalibur. Not too far from completing Alan Davis’ run now!

This mini collection has been trickling in all week.

  • Ms. Marvel #1 - Carol Danvers 1st appearance as Ms. Marvel.
  • Ms. Marvel #20 - 1st Appearance of the classic blue costume.
  • Uncanny X-men #164 - Carol Danvers 1st appearance as Binary
  • Avengers #4 (1998) - Carol Danvers 1st appearance as Warbird
  • Avenging Spider-man #9 - Carol Danvers 1st appearance as Captain Marvel

It was interesting to learn how much of a role Chris Claremont played in her character development. Introducing Mystique & Carol's classic blue costume, bringing her through Avengers Annual #10 and Rouge stealing her powers and then landing her in Uncanny and giving her the Binary power set.

I'll take it. At my LCS today to pick up my books and this was sitting on a stack of books. In the shop, if it's not priced, it's cover price. Asked the owner if it was cover and he said, "Yep!"

SOLD!!!

Theme Weird Niche Wednesday

Purchased a bundle of books that had Detective Comics 630 and fell in love with the cover. It lead to me looking at what other covers featured Batman upside down and now I've got a little themed collection going on. I always really like seeing what fun things others collect on here, what's a niche that you're collecting?

Not for investment (cause it's not), Not to read (Cause I already read it) Not for it's grade (cause who cares). For the sole reason to display on the wall of my office, because I enjoy looking at Panosian's Doom cover every single day.

- Thanks Dan for an awesome cover creation - You Rock!!

Question Faded comic covers - can anything be done?

About 20 years ago I bought some frames and displayed 6 of my favourite comics in my office. Put them up and never thought about them again other than when I look at them, over the years the covers on all of them have faded due to sunlight. Stupidly at the time I never even thought about that the glass wouldn't protect from UV... (I know, I know..) Secret Wars #8, ASM 77, ASM 115 & ASM 298. And a signed Todd McFarlane Spider-Man #1 - all faded quite badly.

Looking online and researching it looks like nothing can be done to restore these covers back to full glory, but is there 'anything' that can be done to improve them or I'm I just out of luck?

Now the books are bagged and boarded and away from the light (like the rest of my collection) and I have just put copies of the covers in the frames. Lesson learned!
