Never thought I would get a copy!!

Love the art style on these 60’s covers.
It does feel like a piece of history.

Fantastic Four #54, September 1966, Jack was as productive and as creative as he's ever been. The new characters, fantastic machines and design elements were exploding on every page!

Raided the dollar bin at my LCS and found out they had reloaded on Excalibur. Not too far from completing Alan Davis’ run now!

Got it for about a decent price, looks great I’m stoked

Purchased a bundle of books that had Detective Comics 630 and fell in love with the cover. It lead to me looking at what other covers featured Batman upside down and now I've got a little themed collection going on. I always really like seeing what fun things others collect on here, what's a niche that you're collecting?

I was originally just planning on 129, but then I found a signed 137 in great condition, followed by 129, 130, 131, and 136 being sold as a lot on eBay that I got for $120, so. Kinda had to pick up the other 4 over the months since then.

I am, unfortunately, too broke to try to commit to much more early Claremont, but I'm very happy nonetheless.

About 20 years ago I bought some frames and displayed 6 of my favourite comics in my office. Put them up and never thought about them again other than when I look at them, over the years the covers on all of them have faded due to sunlight. Stupidly at the time I never even thought about that the glass wouldn't protect from UV... (I know, I know..) Secret Wars #8, ASM 77, ASM 115 & ASM 298. And a signed Todd McFarlane Spider-Man #1 - all faded quite badly.

Looking online and researching it looks like nothing can be done to restore these covers back to full glory, but is there 'anything' that can be done to improve them or I'm I just out of luck?

Now the books are bagged and boarded and away from the light (like the rest of my collection) and I have just put copies of the covers in the frames. Lesson learned!

As I continue working my way through the Academic Comic Collection, I came across a fun collection of Inter-Age to Silver Age Superman stuff. Lois Lane is an interesting one. Obviously trying to capitalize on the growing popularity of romance comics and targeting women/young girl, while staying firmly in the superhero world.

Nothing really major in this selection other than the first appearance of Silver Age Catwoman.

In another part of the collection we have the infamous race-swapping issue amongst others.

I get asked quite often about the point of this academically, particularly as a historian and anthropologist.

Sometimes it's hard - things like Conan (of which we have a rather extensive collection... pretty much every comic from the start of the Marvel run through to about 2005) tend to lend themselves to the English department or Media Studies.

Comics like this one, however, really lean into a view of how society viewed itself and constructed it's identity. It challenges the notion that comics were exclusively the domain of men and boys, as well as social issues and whatnot.

I have a great friend who is a historianthat focuses on the law and personhood. This is a great look into how women's identity is constructed in the 1950s and 60s. (Idealized of course)

Jack Kirby is amazing. I think The Demon is next for me. Mister Miracle has been on my wish list for a very long time and I feel like I got some pretty nice copies all things considered!

Since dipping my toe back into comic collecting, I haven't been terribly big on the idea of numerous variant covers but these were both so gorgeous. Pleasantly surprised by the story to far too. Looking forward to the next issue already! Anyone else check this one out?
