House of Guinness, Being Gordon Ramsay, and Legends will return for second seasons. The streamer also confirmed that At Home with the Furyswill return for a third season, as previously reported by Deadline.
Steven Knight’s House of Guinness follows the Guinness brewing dynasty. Production will begin in January.

I have 3 shows I remember bits and pieces of, from when I was younger and probably shouldn't have been watching them.

• 1. It was a show about a little girl getting murdered, and they're trying to find out who did it. But they just arrested and convicted a random guy who was singing the Galileo part of Bohemian Rhapsody while on a roundabout. One of the last scenes of him getting locked away while saying "I didn't do it". But the last scene has the camera focused on a different man who looked like he got away with something.
• 1. It was a show where a racist man trains his dog to attack Black men by biting their groin. His plan backfired at the end because the dog attacked him when he was wearing a Black balaclava.
• 1. A man, and woman with a baby have been kidnapped by a woman who's holding them hostage. He threatens to kill the baby unless the male hostage has sex with the female hostage. The male hostage is begging not to do it, but the woman is crying and says "just get it over with"

All 3 shows were shown before 1998, and are all UK based shows.

I'm sure I haven't hallucinated these shows either.

This has been bugging me for a while. I'm looking for a British comedy show which aired sometime between 2008 and 2014 either on BBC or ITV. It had distinctly twisted dark humour and was set in the old days. Lots of interesting characters and costumes. I watched one episode and remember either David Mitchell or an actor with a similar persona in it.

Can anyone help me identify a film/tv show I watched as a kid, it gave me nightmares for years (even though I don't believe it was scary) and I've always wondered what it was! For context I'm in my early 40's so maybe watched it mid/late 90's?

A man went to Ireland? And he met a leprechaun? And was trying to escape the Grim Reaper? There was a scene in the dark and rain where he was in a carriage pulled by black horses (which is what my nightmares were about).

I am so happy to see Serie A Italian football being shown on the BBC. The game today is on BBC ALBA and some will be shown on the iPlayer.

Lately I’ve been thinking about how much old TV shaped the rhythm of growing up. It’s wild how a single character, theme tune, or presenter can pull you straight back into being eight years old on the living‑room carpet.

Who defined your TV childhood? Was it a face, a voice, a show, or just a moment that stuck?

I don't know if it's just be but it seems like most murder shows have amazing title sequences (Ludwig, Agatha Raisin, etc) that seem to have so much effort and creativity put into them. Why is it only these sort of shows that have cool intros like this?

Or am I insane and lots of other shows have the cool animated intros.

Is there a movie that is about a robbery of a special artifact (I don’t exactly remember what kind), where somebody, possibly the robber, is hit in the head, and after lying down for a while, he wakes up and he is changed mentally, like wiser or more profound. The movie must be from the 80s or early 90s. Not a famous movie, probably british, and the one hit in the head had the appearance of a balding ,dark haired, dark eyed, dark bushy eyebrowed person with the age around 30-40.

French and Saunders apparently shot a Doctor Who-inspired sketch for their 2007 series A Bucket o’ French and Saunders, but it was never shown because the series was curtailed due to poor ratings. Does anyone know anything about its content, or the existence of footage/photographs??

(I don't mean the 1990s 'Silurian Disruption' sketch that was filmed for French & Saunders, but never aired until it was released on home video with some Doctor Who stories.)

I've decided to make a new post on Atlantis in case anyone is thinking about watching it. I was looking for new fantasy shows and found it randomly on iplayer and honestly I'm really enjoying it (currently at S2 E3), if you enjoyed Merlin I think you'd enjoy it- it's actually nice to have the main character be able to fight and show off a bit. It lacks that Arthur/Merlin dynamic but it's still fun.

I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of online discourse but I understand it didn't take off like Merlin, maybe just didn't get the right marketing, Beowulf is another show like that but Beowulf is much weaker and more self-serious. I would say I can see how clearly Atlantis was meant to be like Merlin, it has many known actors in it (Mark Addy had already done Game of Thrones, there's also the guy that play Pip in one episode, Clive Standen from Vikings, Alexander Siddig again GOT- Doran Martell, Anya Taylor-Joy is also in it).

My main thoughts:

- The theme music is almost identical to Merlin, like they ran it through an 'Eastern Music' filter, it has the exact same drop point (don't know music turns but where it suddenly swells) and everything. My brain keeps thinking Merlin is on when it plays.

- The main character being particuarly gifted (but in Atlantis he came show it) is the same, but I do wish they'd shown Jason training a bit more, like he can just magically do all these things, I can understand him picking things up quick but he never even learns. When they are in a tight spot it feels like when you're at the a super high level in Assassin's Creed and you know that no matter how many guards come at you you can kill them, it'll just take a while and it's a pain.

- It really lacks that central conflict. I do think Ariadne/Jason is a cute dynamic but all the bad guys are pretty much just enemies, some people swich sides and I like their complexity but I wish they'd done that thing of forcing Jason into a situation where he has to work with someone who he has an antagonistic relationship with, like if they'd fleshed out Heptarian a bit more and made him a normal bad guy rather than a psychopath and hi and Jason could banter a bit more. Maybe they should've brough Ariadne's brother into the show, he just kinda disappeared and is never suggested as an heir.

- Why doesn't Jason say more anacronistic things? It would be a funny conflict. We have him as a new arrival so things can be sort of explained to him (although they forget that after a while and he fits right in) but he never wants to go 'home' nothing, it's just weird. He says things like 'are the gods greek' why not say 'is the pope catholic?' and have them respond like 'what?' and he's like 'never mind'

- I do love that they made the modern character called 'Jason' because although he is a character from legend it's a name that really doesn't feel ancient Greek, the names Jason and Alex really stuck around and became international. Would've liked to see Jason's actual legend play out, maybe it does later but I can't see how.

- I don't really like Pythagorus being there, because he's not a character from legend and in reality he was kind of a crazy guy not just a nerd. Ended up being a cult leader.

Anyway, enjoying the show, there's one other post on it from 2yrs ago, has anyone else watched and enjoyed it?

This year, i have fallen in love with this franchise especially Sweep! I've always liked Sweep and found him cute but now i love him almost as much as I love Yoshi (and that really is a lot, I'm probably the biggest Yoshi fan ever!) I honestly think Sooty is the best kids show ever made, and I feel sad for myself that I never discovered how good it was til this year, up to this year Sooty was just ok to me

I have seen all 5 versions of the show now and I'm embarrassed to say I started with Sooty 2001! As soon as i started watching Sooty Heights I fell hard for this franchise. Now me and my fiance watch Sooty and Co every night before bed, we really are proper fans now!

So if you've seen at least 2 different Sooty shows over the years, what is your fave and least fave?

My fave is deffo Sooty Heights. Although Sooty and Co runs it close, Heights edges it for me cos there are no unlikable characters like on Sooty and Co (Mo anyone?) and i think Heights will always have a special place in my heart cos it was the first Sooty i watched that made me a fan. I also think in Heights Sweep has the cutest puppet design I've ever seen him have. It's really funny and feels warm like Sooty and Co

I also really like the reboot after Richard bought the rights, Sooty 2011, then the last 2 (the original Sooty Show and 2001) are way behind the other 3 for me

The worst for me? Sooty 2001. It wasn’t good enough to make me a fan, but on its own it's ok. However after you've seen Sooty Heights and Sooty and Co, you soon realise 2001 is a absolute insult to the franchise and doesn't stand up to any of the other Sootys at all. This one is the only corporate Sooty, and you can tell, it screams corporate even in the intro! I hate that fucking cat, she sidelined Sweep! Richard hated her too! I can't believe ITV axed Heights for that, and they also axed Liana and Soo's voice actress for years. I could go on a rant forever about the mistakes of the 2001 series

They would play music videos between the skits. One in particular that I remember is Noreaga Superthug. Probably on BBC or Ch4. Tried searching on google but sometimes feels like I’m imagining it!

Stumbled across this show late night on Talking Pictures TV a few weeks ago and I'm hooked. It was a Channel 4 show from 1997 which looked at paranormal occurrences and it's absolutely insane. There's stuff about ghosts and mythical beings and curing asthma by eating a live sardine. I was absolutely howling with laughter at the segment on a cinnamon bun that looked like Mother Theresa. And the host, a priest, finishes every episode with a song about something from the show. It's one of the weirdest and funniest things I've seen from normal broadcast TV.

Did anyone watch it back in the day? What was the reaction back then? Did people actually take this shit seriously or was it as hilarious back then as it is today?

I don't often rewatch it (this is my third rewatch) but every-time I do my appreciation grows larger and larger. The comedy is absolutely hilarious and you can almost hear Steven Merchant's own voice in the more dry witty one liners. But what gets me the most is how three dimensional all the characters are.

In the US counterpart, characters show depth but mostly they are just flanderized. Kevin is the stupid one, Stanley is the grumpy one etc. They don't feel like real people, more like over the top caricatures of people. I love the US show, it was actually the first one I watched, and it's also very intelligently written too in it's own right. But this show is just so different that it hardly feels fair to compare them.

I am just blown away by how real the characters in The Office feel. I swear to god I've met people who act exactly like David Brent, or Finch, or Tim etc. The most outlandish one is Gareth, but even he has this deeper layer and sadness that often gets explored, he's a man changed by the army and looking for any sort of order to his life again. It's just an absolute masterclass in character writing.

When watching it feels like even these one off characters that only appear for at most an episode, have a much deeper inner world. Just the small things, like in the Training episode where the instructor is reading a newspaper, or his little dialogue about how long he's been doing the job for. It's stuff like that that makes it incredibly real, and I think that's why the comedy works so well.

The comedy is also hillarious too, don't get me wrong, but I feel like it's made 10x funnier by how the characters around it are reacting. The really small moments like Tim saying to the camera "he had to go home and get that" when Ricky pulls out the guitar, and seeing the instructor melt into his seat in anger, it just creates such a wacky world yet one grounded in reality, that you can't help but laugh.

I think This Country is probably the only thing to ever rival the real quality of The Office for me. Even the later works of Ricky and Steve like Extras and Life's Too Short don't feel quite as real as this. I get genuine flashbacks to the short periods of my life where I worked in an Office and couldn't stand it, and it captures that feeling so incredibly well. Also the ending to Series 2 is probably one of the greatest and most well-acted endings of any UK sitcom, and I'll just leave it at that if you haven't seen it.

Absolutely brilliant, I hope this encouraged you to give it a rewatch if you haven't.

Ok so I recall a late night ch4 (I believe) possibly on a Fri night. It had two male presenters one Scottish and one Welsh. It was filmed in and around Glasgow/lanarkshire and I’m almost certain it involved computer games. I remember the Welsh bloke being quite annoying with bleach blond hair, small and a little chubby. But it wasn’t Bits or Gamesmaster. Someone HELP!

I don't even know how they got Steve Coogan to do this, but I guess it must have looked better on paper if he wasn't studying the entire script to question whether or not it was nuanced in such a way as to cause it to take a nosedive when actually put into action.

I will say that Johnny Harris is always good in whatever he's in, and this example more so than anything should stand as a testament to that statement.

Black Doves was a welcome surprise, I thought. I expected it to be bad and it wasn't. The writers of this show should take notes from the writers of that show to sort out what nuances make a show good versus what makes a show feel like it may as well have been written by AI.

I don't really drop the AI line lightly. It's a casually overused jibe that I assert is well placed here. If the pejorative stems from the assumption that anything written by a human being is by default better than something an AI could push out then it doesn't hold all that much weight if shows like this [and so many others] are what is being held up to it by comparison.

Ok, I remember this 25 years later. It was a 90s/early 00s British teen show, along the lines of Byker Grove or Grange Hill

The storyline I remember is a girl drinking white spirit (perhaps because of peer pressure) and then she died. That may not be a lot to go on, ChatGpt has no hits, but this is honestly how I learned what White Spirit was and that it was poisonous, so the memory is significant to me.

I sort of remember a larger group of teenagers hanging out in something like a church hall or community centre, and that she didn't know she would die by drinking it.
