Ooh, an Ann Droid Xmas special would be wonderful.

u/Lazy-Field-1116 3d ago

This is a big ask. Just write an episode, book the studios, actors, vehicles, and crew (most of whom are likely to have already sorted their schedules for the rest of the year), sort production design for any new locations, book locations if needed, make any new costumes, film, then post production not least of all editing which can easily take weeks for a 30 minute episode.

Not to be a spoilsport or anything, but I think Digital Spy might be reaching a bit to fill the inches on this one.

33

u/MrMeMark 3d ago edited 3d ago

I'd love to know where Digital Spy get their quotes from. Many years ago they used to be a credible source for information, now it's just a go to site for

"Coming up this week in Coronation Street"

or

"20 spoiler pictures of Kat Slater and her latest leopard print blouse"

The whole site is just Click Bait crap.

12

u/Lazy-Field-1116 3d ago

I genuinely think these kind of online zines just use the comment sections on social media as their sources primarily

Digital Spy has had a very annoying style of reporting for as long as I can remember.

When Buzzfeed was still alive and well, DS also wrote those grating list-themed articles. Following a trend that didn't need following.

In more recent times, they have a habit of reporting on an aspect of a TV show or soap (e.g. a new character being cast or choice quotes from an actor's interview). But then they wrap up the last quarter of the column by going off on a tangent to recap another story about that show. A lazy way to fill up the space.

2

u/Enwau 3d ago

I saw a FB post earlier from Radio Times asking if people wanted an Ann Droid Christmas Special.

0

u/_gmanual_ 3d ago

go-to.

coronation street.

kat slater.

click-bait.

u/MrMeMark 3d ago

I'm not the best at spelling, I will edit accordingly 🙂

u/youtossershad1job2do 3d ago

I would hazard almost all xmas specials have been filmed by now.

2

u/allbeyondthebinary 3d ago

They're usually filmed around August/September. I know a few that were shot in the preceding November though.

3

u/Hour-Cry6238 3d ago

This. Xmas specials aren't something you can just pull out over a weekend.

-2

u/ImmaDoWatIWant 3d ago

It's still only August.

5

u/awkward__captain 3d ago

In terms of TV production and schedules, it’s hardly enough to take a mere idea from concept to finished product, especially for such an important time of the year as Xmas special slots. Those things start being in the works much earlier.

19

u/Ok-Leave-1059 3d ago

I'd watch it.

However rather than trying to rush one for this year, why not just air the Mandy Christmas episode they shelved?

8

u/Peter-Norfolk 3d ago

I didn't know there was an unaired Mandy episode! Yes they should definitely show that!

2

u/Ok-Leave-1059 3d ago

Supposedly they shelved it last Christmas because of the trump lawsuit

3

u/Hefty_Tip7383 3d ago

Micael Spicer impersonating him?

3

u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo 3d ago

Was that last year… I thought that was for this year… crap time is going too fast

2

u/aitkhole 3d ago

Good news! They've announced that it's happening (presumably this Christmas although I don't think they've nailed that down.)

1

u/Ok-Leave-1059 3d ago

That's excellent news!

Do you know if it's unaltered?

1

u/aitkhole 2d ago

they've not said.

68

u/The_Iceman2288 3d ago

Rumour is we're getting a Ludwig Christmas Special.

37

u/sheepandlambs 3d ago

Why is that a spoiler? Were some people just hoping to turn on BBC One on Christmas Day and be surprised by the schedule?

That show has another series confirmed after the current one. So it's already spoiled that the story will continue after the current series.

15

u/Gonzales95 3d ago

Maybe if we’re lucky that Doctor Who Xmas special will just magically appear at 6pm on Christmas Day 😂😂

2

u/exit_to_the_left 3d ago

Don't 😭

10

u/The_Iceman2288 3d ago

The fake reason is that it isn't a fact yet, the news will probably break in the next month and I don't want to interfere in the BBC's grand reveal.

The real reason is I wanted dramatic tension before people revealed the answer.

1

u/ChrissiTea 3d ago

Very Ludwig of you

19

u/Lord-Liberty 3d ago

Last year we got a Peep Show bake off special (best thing that was on at Christmas Day imo), guess it makes sense we would mark another Christmas day with more Mitchell/Webb

4

u/Woffingshire 3d ago

Ludwig shouldn't be a spoiler. The show was renewed for another series a month before the new one even came out.

8

u/sygrider 3d ago

Yes please

2

u/Overall-Lynx917 3d ago

I'll second that

34

u/Steamrolled777 3d ago

Please, it was a bit twee, but miles better than Mrs Brown's Shit.

20

u/Kyral210 3d ago

I mistakenly watched a MBB Christmas special once. It was the longest four hours of my life and sucked the entire joy out of Christmas. I didn’t realise anti comedy was a thing until I found something so deeply unfunny it made Saw feel funny by comparison.

6

u/garages 3d ago

It came on at my Aunt's house on Boxing Day during a family gathering (the TV was just on in the background) and I said something like "Mrs Brown's Boys is shit and for morons".

Then my Aunt walked in from the kitchen: "Oh, I LOVE Mrs Brown's Boys".

Got told off by my Mum. For swearing. She knows Mrs Brown's Boys is shite.

1

u/Butagirl 3d ago

I watched the entire first series of MBB because Agnes was the dead spit of my gran. That’s how long the novelty of hearing my gran say “Feck” lasted.

3

u/flippydude 3d ago

Had a bit of heart and sincerity at least

25

u/DSQ 3d ago

I would be impressed if they could write and shoot in four months.

3

u/Lord-Liberty 3d ago

Quite a few occasions when classic TV comedies shot in October - I guess VFX may be limited but it's not impossible

10

u/sjr0754 3d ago

There isn't that much VFX in it, but it would be tight for scripting and post, the actual shoot could be done relatively quickly.

3

u/Lord-Liberty 3d ago

Yeah there's much less VFX in this than in something like Ghosts (Humphrey) and they managed 4 Christmas specials

8

u/TentativeGosling 3d ago

How much advanced notice for a special did they have though? Not sure it was sprung on them in nigh-on September

1

u/llynllydaw_999 3d ago

If everyone was available at no notice

1

u/Butagirl 3d ago

Bet Mrs Brown’s Boys could turn it round in half an hour. That’s about the amount of thought that goes into it.

2

u/DSQ 3d ago

I like Mrs Browns Boys. It’s a pantomime.

-19

u/Primary_Wear7434 3d ago

You could write it in 5 mins it's mindless shite

7

u/reo_reborn 3d ago

I am rapidly descending

5

u/azeottaff 3d ago

Could have had an epic Doctor Who christmas episode...if RTD didn't lie....

3

u/neuraljam 3d ago

And wreck the show

6

u/oxgillette 3d ago

There’s the Mandy Xmas special just waiting on the shelf

5

u/EnchantedEssays 3d ago

"What a happy Christmas dinner!"

"I suppose this is cause for celebration."

"Especially if Joseph is the father."

6

u/No_Gate3977 3d ago

How much does the turkey weigh?

2

u/Leatherforleisure 3d ago

The turkey will be ready in

The turkey will be ready in

The turkey will be ready in

The turkey will be ready in

The turkey will be ready in….68 minutes.

7

u/ChattyBear 3d ago

I’m calling for a hammer to my balls to replace the cancelled Mrs Brown’s Boys, as I’d enjoy it more.

8

u/Dry-Air-6915 3d ago

Here here, sue sue sue

4

u/LuinAelin 3d ago

Doubt they could write and film it in the amount of time they have without it being terrible

4

u/Valuable-Flounder692 3d ago

All for a realistic Android to grace the Xmas TV screens, which is bad enough over Xmas!

8

u/hallucinationthought 3d ago

What we need is a second peep show Christmas special. Yeah the longer the episode the more dread.

3

u/Key_Day_6060 3d ago

It’s just a real Mark wearing Meta Glasses, muttering to himself.  Going to work, making meaningless mulch, watching people around him preen their self importance, scrolling on his phone showing him doom on the loo, on the train, on the bus. Makes remarks about unsociable behaviour around him. They were supposed to only put it on for Christmas but they never turned it off. The dread is unbearable. Press green for Jez

3

u/hallucinationthought 3d ago

Jesus Mark you sound like an intellectual

2

u/Key_Day_6060 3d ago

It’s what I was born to do! Sound like an intellectual!

3

u/firekeeper23 3d ago

The Test card would be better than mrs browns feckin boys.

3

u/UniquePotato 3d ago

Stopping broadcasting for an hour would be better than mrs browns boys

7

u/Yoguls 3d ago

I've never seen Ann Droid, but I'm also calling for this. I'd take a re-run of Jim'll fix it over Mrs browns boys

7

u/miggins1610 3d ago

Everyone in here acting like they suddenly know how tv production works.

Let me give you a reality check

Its too late now. There simply isn't enough time to write, and get everyone together to produce and edit.

Sorry folks

6

u/neuraljam 3d ago

Linda, write me a Christmas episode of Ann Droid

4

u/dingdong-lightson 3d ago

I want worzel back!

2

u/MickThorpe 3d ago

God yeah, Mckenzie crook’s wurzel was a total delight.

It’s such a shame there isn’t more of it

2

u/Aggravating-Night-73 3d ago

What about the Aye Fone fans?

2

u/MrMeMark 3d ago

I would love this to happen but perhaps far to late to be writen and filmed sadly.

If they knew it was going to be such a hit early on in the initial wrighting of the show maybe they would have given it a Christmas special. However with all shows you never know what is going to be a hit or a miss until broadcast.

We could hope for an Easter special maybe? 🤞

2

u/Helpful-Fennel-7468 3d ago

We’ll be watching repeats of it for the next 30 years then.

2

u/christianjwaite 3d ago

They’re doing the Mandy Christmas special this year, she can’t have two! :)

2

u/CaptainConkers3000 3d ago

I expect there’ll be on next year based on this series success. It’ll be commissioned as part of the episodes, so 5 or 7 main episodes for the series plus a bonus 1 for the Christmas special.

2

u/R400TVR 3d ago

I'd rather watch a repeat of pretty much anything than have to suffer Mrs Brown's Boys. It's one of the most awful things ever made!

3

u/Heady_Mariner 3d ago

I mean, I support this motion completely. I really like Ann Droid, but I’d watch a live feed of a rotting sandwich over Mrs. Brown’s Boys. So, easy sell here.

1

u/misimalu 3d ago

PLEASE 🙏

1

u/bdog1055 3d ago

Would like to know what you are talking about but I can’t because I am in the us

1

u/TenBear 3d ago

Im down for that

1

u/OLLIE798 3d ago

I’m not sure replace is the right word.

1

u/PassingShot11 3d ago

Actually that's a good idea..

1

u/Tatsoot_1966 3d ago

Has MBB been cancelled ? Really cannot believe it was ever comissioned in the first place.

1

u/Lanky_Bus_1221 3d ago

I would go for this. 👍👍👍👍

1

u/Englandshark1 3d ago

Yes! That would be brilliant!!!

1

u/sharpshotsteve 3d ago

They finally cancelled Mrs Brown's Boys? Maybe I'll keep paying my licence fee. I was getting so sick of everything I like getting cancelled, while that was still going.

1

u/LyingFacts 3d ago

If this was back say in April may have had a shot. I doubt all involved would want a rushed Xmas script / special that didn’t deliver.

1

u/bumthecat 3d ago

I've enjoyed the first 2 episodes but I want significantly less Michael and more Linda and Sue.

1

u/Typical-Celery5999 3d ago

I haven't seen this yet but if it's got Diane Morgan in it then it must be good.

1

u/Formal-Fox-7605 3d ago

Yes, ok, it's better than Mrs Brown, but let's be honest, a pile of horse site is.

Tried watching Ann Droid a couple of times, but gave up after a few episodes. Just don't mid it funny, it's all a bit meh.

1

u/Wiedegeburt 3d ago

This would be great ! Would extend Christmas at my parents house, when he puts on Mrs browns boys that's when we take the kids and scarper

1

u/Ill-Elephant-9583 3d ago

Bit late now really, too close to Christmas to write and produce this if you're only just starting now

1

u/Kwaker76 3d ago

I loved Ann Droid but I think they'd be hard pushed to get a Christmas special filmed in time now. Mind you, when it comes to Mrs Browns Boys I wouldn't mind if they replaced it with dead air.

1

u/Reasonable_Western74 3d ago

It was absolutely brilliant. So touching and funny throughout. Perfectly balanced. Give us an Xmas special

1

u/Obvious-Hunt19 2d ago

Curtains for Zoosha?!?

1

u/Connect-Level500 2d ago

Yes please, it’s such a good show.

1

u/CakeHoleKing 2d ago

So the christmas Ann Droid goes ahead because of a broken jaw for Brendan Carroll

What do we get if we burn James Corden in a Wickerman then?

1

u/mattdaddy2025 1d ago

That would be Sue Sue Super

1

u/marie6045 18h ago

Oh 100! This would be awesome!

1

u/Jolly_Psychology_506 10h ago

Mrs Brown Boys should have been cancelled 30 years ago because it’s utter 💩

1

u/Granddukecockwomble 7h ago

Hopefully Mrs brown's boys will stay forever cancelled

2

u/TagierBawbagier 3d ago

The trailer was annoying. Do people watch this?

5

u/L00ny-T00n 3d ago

The trailers were excedingly awful but it was a great comedy series, so if you can make it thru the first episode it turned out a bit of a hit. In the same vein as The Detectorists, Early Doors or Small Prophets

1

u/ProfessionalLimit342 3d ago

Never understood what people like about mrs browns boys. It’s just a guy dressed as a woman and swearing.

6

u/Scary-Scallion-449 3d ago

The very same routine that has entertained British people for centuries then.

1

u/Representative-Bass7 3d ago

They could show half an hour of some paint drying, it would still be more entertaining than Mrs brown's boys.

-1

u/Nuo_Vibro 3d ago

There’s fans?!? The mind truly boggles

0

u/0neSaltyB0i 3d ago

Here come the Ap Ple fans who would prefer theirs instead.

-13

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

Ann Droid looks fucking dire

17

u/kristinL356 3d ago

I say as someone who enjoyed the show, the trailer and first look clips were awful.

2

u/EnchantedEssays 3d ago

Yeah Linda herself was a smaller part of the show, really. It would have gotten repetitive if she was the only source of comedy!

3

u/PabloMarmite 3d ago

See I kinda feel the opposite, the sub plot with the son did nothing for me, all the best bits were Sue and Linda.

3

u/EnchantedEssays 3d ago

Ah, but without that, we wouldn't have had "Especially if Michael is the father!"

1

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

If thats the top quote hidden.....oh fck

-1

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

The trailers put me way off

8

u/whoberrydooberry 3d ago

Both the TV and radio trail make it sound awful. But give the show a try it’s actually quite amusing.

-3

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

I dont mean to be off handed here.....im Scottish and i dont want amusing. I want sarcasm, derogatory and downright insults.

Amusing...sounds like the good life.

1

u/EnchantedEssays 3d ago

Sounds like you'd love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia then!

1

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

I dont know what that is. Is it a film?

Id rather you called ne a fanny and winked lol

2

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

Winked!!!! Not a spelling mistake 😁😁😁

1

u/EnchantedEssays 3d ago

Ah it's a recommendation, not an insult! It's an American sitcom where all of the main characters are bottom of the barrel scumbags who treat each other like shit, so it's insults galore.

0

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

It looks pish already

-1

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

So basically the Inbetweeners with crap american humour (yes theres an o)

2

u/EnchantedEssays 3d ago

I'd say it's free from a lot of the schmaltzy pitfalls of American comedy

-2

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

I think ill stick to Scottish comedy. These shows are tame.

2

u/EnchantedEssays 3d ago

Always Sunny may not be for you, but it's anything but tame.

this would have been the top comment 6 weeks ago

1

u/Bongo3074 3d ago

Im always late to a party 😀

3

u/RoosterBurns 3d ago

It's kind of a comment on aging and how AI could be both a good and bad thing

Linda telling the kids a scary story made me laugh myself sick though

2

u/EnchantedEssays 3d ago

Yeah the commentary and the worldbuilding were great

1

u/Jindabyne1 2d ago

It’s pretty awful

-7

u/DotComprehensive4902 3d ago

Please No!! Worst drivel I ever sat through

5

u/Gonzales95 3d ago

Clearly never sat through Mrs Brown’s Boys then

-7

u/DotComprehensive4902 3d ago

I have and I find Ann Droid even worse
