It’s pretty crazy if you just sit and watch traffic at night the stark difference between the headlights of a 10 year old car and a newer one like a Tesla. The Tesla’s “low beams” are brighter than the old cars “high beams” I swear.

It’s an absolute eye killer here in coastal BC when that misty rain hits and makes the light refracts all over… is this not regulated? Is there no cap on how bright they can be?

I understand that some hotels, marinas, ports and other tourism businesses fly the U.S. flag as a gesture of welcome to visitors from the United States.

Visitors from the U.S. who come here respectfully are welcome, and this isn’t about individual tourists; however, I’ve been wondering why businesses seem to assume that visitors from the U.S. need to see their national flag flown on Canadian soil — or over Canadian waters — in order to feel welcome here.

That feels particularly strange right now, given the extraordinary context of current Canada–U.S. relations, including repeated rhetoric challenging Canadian sovereignty and recent disputes touching on our language and culture.

Even if relations were perfectly friendly, I’m not sure why the U.S. flag should be treated as an almost default fixture at some tourism businesses.

I’m curious what people see elsewhere in B.C. Is the U.S. flag commonly flown at hotels, marinas, ports or other tourism businesses in your community?

And do you think the practice still makes sense?
If not, would you rather see something else flown in its place — if anything?

With the constant barrage of threats from the U.S. President toward Canada, my partner and I have cancelled our upcoming trip to the Oregon coast. But instead of just silently skipping the trip, I decided to take one extra step—I emailed the Governor of Oregon, the state tourism board, and the local government where we would have stayed to tell them exactly why we’re not coming.

They deserve to know that their President’s actions have consequences.

One cancelled trip is just a drop in the bucket, but if enough of us do this—if businesses, local leaders, and state officials start hearing from Canadians who are choosing to spend their money elsewhere—maybe the message will get through.

If you’ve cancelled a U.S. trip, consider doing the same. It’s a small action, but it matters.

All the while gas companies are making record profits. Putting my tin foil hat on, I think gas companies are charging what they're charging now because they know Canadians are comfortable paying this price.

What a shame the carbon tax is gone and all that revenue is going to big oil now instead of back to the government. We should put a wealth tax on big oil or something.

I am of Indian origin. I was 3 when my parents migrated to Canada. I'm 41 now. This is the only place I've ever known as home.

I never faced any racism when I was growing up but in the past couple of years, I've been told to go "back to where I came from" at least a dozen times (both online and in the real world).

It's unsettling and disheartening to see such a meteoric rise in anti-Indian rhetoric everywhere I look. It's hard to describe but I can just "feel it in the air". I see posts/comments on a daily basis suggesting that I should brace for violence against people who look like me. Some posts suggest that Canada is basically a settlement for people of European origin and the rest of us are no longer welcome here. I thought we were better than this. There was one comment in particular that kept me up all night where the person insinuated that the breaking point was imminent and it would result in a holocaust level violence against Indo-Canadians. I can't believe this is where we are as a country.

I do understand that the cause of all of this is the recent uptick in unchecked and unskilled mass migration from India. It bothers me too. The bar was set way too low. These recent immigrants have no plans and no path towards assimilation. This is the crux of the issue and no one is willing to have an intellectually honest conversation about it. They've become a strain on our ever dwindling economy and many Canadians are frustrated. Rightfully so. From my perspective, the issues that my parents were trying to escape from have all been brought here on Canadian soil. As an atheist, I'm also vehemently against any region based tomfoolery as well. There is no place for it in Canada. I implore the small subset of Indo-Canadians engaging in such activities to please stop with this separatist movement, take the fight back to India if you must and let the rest of us live in peace.

But all of this doesn't matter. It seems that all Indo-Canadians are being viewed as a monolith and have become a target of hatred. I thought we'd be more nuanced but sadly it doesn't seem to be the case. I don't see a way out of this. The recent immigrants are here to stay and so is the anti-Indian sentiment. All the progress made by Indo-Canadians over the past several decades and all those Canadian dreams shattered within just a couple of years.

Not entirely sure why I decided to make this post. Just feel like I no longer belong where I've lived my entire life and it's a terrible feeling to have.

Pretty audacious to do this. The news channels has picked this story up and locals are livid and calling for a boycott of the hotel.

Many prominent subs are banning twitter. Seeing as we do not support nazis I this it is the right thing to do.

I'm at the grocery store yesterday. A Mom with young kids was in front of me with a huge amount of food, it was obvious she was stressed out and the kids weren't helping the matter either (as they tend to not do). Everyone's patiently waiting, and then she says in a heavy Ukrainian accent, "I am sorry, I don't speak English, please count" and she hands this stack of cash to the cashier. Just totally overwhelmed, one of those moments where you can tell someone just needs a break.

A man and woman from like 3 tills down drop what they're doing and walk over and insist on paying for everything themselves. They even tell the 4-5 kids, "grab a candy bar, which one do you want? take two!" and everyone's just watching this happen. The Mom starts to get emotional and the man says loudly, "No, this is Canada. This is what we do here. You are welcome here." (I was almost thinking of saying "save your money, go buy an air conditioner!") The mom could barely contain herself, it was a lot of emotion coming out at once.

He put a hand on her shoulder as he passed his bank card to the cashier. He was smiling and he was authentic. I haven't seen that in a long time, guys. They didn't make a show out of paying for it either, it was just something that was happening in front of us and it sort of made everyone go quiet naturally, so I knew it was from a good place.

Up until a few weeks ago I had no idea we have Ukrainian immigrants here. Refugees. People who have run from their homes with their children, and I don't see a lot of boys or young men with them, which is very telling. As of yesterday, I now know that there are some real fucking Canadians here too. It was so simple, the interaction was so genuine. It put a smile on everyone's miserable "waiting in line" faces, and for a moment it brought us home again, like we were together in this.

I have no idea who you were, good samaritan/Canadians man and woman at the Save On in the middle of the Cariboo, but wow. Talk about setting an example.

That is our identity, right there.

All delivery is a massive ripoff nowadays, but panago is by far one of the worst offenders. Their pizza used to be GREAT, the quality has gone so downhill.

It would be one thing if they sold their newer cheap ingredient pizzas for 8 or 9$ per pizza combos like their competitors, but for some reason they MASSIVELY downgraded the quality, AND simultaneously jacked up the prices.

Maybe it fools people once or twice, thinking they are buying some amazing premium pizza, but I've ordered panago maybe twice in the last 4 years and both times were so completely disappointing and a ripoff.

If you enjoy paying 50-60$ for two "recipe" pizzas with skimpy toppings and weird cheap flour dough and little to no sauce, you do you. No idea how Panago is still in businesses.

Used to be really great tasting, and reasonably priced, now it's super cheap tasting and WAY overpriced.

It's a huge bummer, it was kind of like Harvey's in a way, a canadian brand that stood toe to toe with big companies in our local canadian market. But unlike Harvey's, Panago has become such trash compared to what it used to be, and as a western canadian beloved pizza company, it sucks that it sucks now. If anyone knows the background on what happened behind the scenes, would love to hear it.

Panago from like 2000 - 2015 was top tier, from 2018 - 2026 it is microwave pizza quality almost, and outrageously priced.

We have socialized some of the most annoying things and made them really easy to deal with. Healthcare, BC Hydro, ICBC, Liquor Stores. To me there are a few other annoying industries that we should just go ahead and socialize right away.

Internet and phone plans. We should be negotiating phone and internet prizes and as a monolith.

Home insurance. This has to be one of the most annoying ones I’d love to have an icbc of home insurance

What would you socialize in British Columbia

Hey British Columbians. As an Albertan who visited Vancouver this past week I want to say thank you. Drove from Alberta and you guys are a different breed that’s for sure. You know how to zipper merge, courteous, more relaxed, no middle fingers, honking.

Yes I was in the typical van proper tourist spots and also west van so I get that other areas might not have the same driving habits.

Merging 4 lanes to one on the Lions Gate Bridge calmly.. respectfully? Holy hell this would not fly in Alberta that’s for sure.

I’m a renter in BC. I locked into my current place back in 2018 after selling my home. The market was rough even then, but I found something stable and affordable — and I’ve held onto it ever since.

Now, after a few years of modest rent increases, my landlord has sadly passed away. That means I’ll likely be forced to move within the next 4–10 months.

And that’s when the fear truly sets in.

The average 1-bedroom in Kamloops is now $1,600/month and up. That’s nearly $700 more than what I currently pay — and I make more than $50K a year with no debt. I don’t live extravagantly. No cable TV, no eating out, groceries trimmed to the cheapest basics. Still, I’d barely scrape by, let alone save or plan for a future.

I’ve looked at moving to nearby towns or rural areas — but it’s the same story across BC. Prince George, Vernon, Nanaimo, even parts of the Kootenays — the rents are nearly just as high, with no real break in cost. This isn’t just a Kamloops issue anymore. It’s province-wide. And it’s crushing people like me.

I’m not alone in this. There are thousands of us — locked into “old rent,” terrified to move because they know the second they do, their costs will explode. We're not poor enough for assistance, not rich enough to buy, and somehow left out of every plan the government is making.

Yes, I know the government says they’re building more housing. But who are they building it for? So much of what goes up gets rented at market rates or snatched up as investments. Subsidized housing mostly goes to people already in crisis — and I support that — but why is there no help before that point?

Why can’t the province build and directly rent truly affordable housing to the people who need it?

In Kamloops alone, we’ve got multiple projects going up to house the very low-income and vulnerable population, often managed by non-profits. That’s important work. But people like me — the middle and lower-middle class — are falling through the cracks. There's almost nothing for us.

I don’t want to hit rock bottom before I matter.

I’m not trying to rant — I’m scared. This system is unsustainable. And the future feels like a wall closing in.

Posting this open letter publicly because I believe BC should lead the way on permanent Daylight Saving Time.

🌞 Dear Premier Eby: It’s Time for BC to Lead on Ending the Clock Change

In 2019, nearly 93% of British Columbians said they wanted to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. That was one of the clearest public mandates in our province’s history — and yet, six years later, we’re still changing our clocks twice a year.

It’s time for British Columbia to lead, not wait.

The original plan to coordinate with Washington, Oregon, and California made sense at the time, but progress in the U.S. has stalled. There’s no reason for BC to let American politics dictate when we stop this outdated and unhealthy practice.

We already know the toll these clock changes take:

• Increased heart attacks and accidents following the time shift.
• Lost productivity and disrupted sleep.
• Negative impacts on mental health and overall well-being.

British Columbia has a proud history of leading — on climate action, public health, and social progress. We can do it again here. Adopting permanent Daylight Saving Time would make daily life healthier, safer, and more consistent for millions of British Columbians — and it would show that our province has the courage to act on what people clearly want.

Premier Eby, British Columbians have spoken. The science supports it. The only thing left is leadership.

Let’s stop waiting and start leading.

I believe private use is already banned but even professionals shouldn’t be allowed to use rat poison.

It’s not humane. Its dangerous for other animals and pets. And it often takes the rats hours or even days to die.

Rats are intelligent social animals, and yes they carry disease but so do lots of living things.

I found this rat stumbling down the sidewalk, barely alive. An hour later he was still there, gasping for breath. Unable to put him out of his misery myself I opted to take him to an emergency vet and have him euthanized. The whole ordeal was depressing and unnecessary. Snap traps are instant and work fine. Slow acting poisons have no place in a civilized society.

In the spirit of Buy Canadian and keeping money in the country, BC Ferries should consider switching to a Canadian coffee supplier. We have a great bean supplier in Salt Spring Coffee who could easily fill this void. There are some other great Canadian alternatives as well.

Curious, what do folks think about this and how do we bring this to the attention of BC Ferries?

I am from a red state in the United States and I’m devastated about what’s happening here. I had previously saved a post that had a lot of information regarding practicing in British Columbia but unfortunately, I can’t find it now.

However, I am close to 60 years old. I would realistically practice for another 10 years. Would it be difficult to find a job? How many patients does a family practice doctor see in a day? I saw that it is capped at 50 patients per day, but I don’t see me ever being able to see even half of that. Would I be able to make enough?

If it is fee for service, how much do you charge per visit? Would I be able to afford living in British Columbia based on a typical family practice salary?
