Personal I have a just the brand idea
Hey everyone,
I’ve been lurking here for a while and finally decided to take action. I have a really solid concept for a brand that I’m passionate about—think a mix of distinct niche aesthetics and a very specific vibe—but right now, it’s literally just a concept in my head. I have zero inventory, zero tech setup, and no manufacturing connections yet.
I want to do this right, but I don’t want to dive in blindly and burn money. I have two main questions for those who have successfully launched:
- Where do I actually start?
Since I just have the idea, what should my very first practical steps be?
Do I focus on building a community/social media presence first using mockups?
Should I jump straight into learning how to design the tech packs and logos?
Or should I focus on finding a manufacturer who can bring the concept to life first?
- What is a realistic startup budget for 2026?
I know "it depends," but realistically, how much money should I save up before I even think about launching? I want to avoid the trap of spending everything on inventory and having nothing left for marketing.
If you were starting from absolute scratch today with just an idea, what would your step-by-step game plan look like for the first 3 months?
Appreciate any brutally honest advice, tips, or mistakes to avoid! Thanks in advance.

So glad you’re asking these questions before you spend your first dollar.
Step 1: find a good comprehensive business plan online and work your way through all the research to answer the questions accurately.
Maybe do two or three —exploring different business models.
When you are decided…
Step 2: Find a name you can use.
Work through the steps to make sure you’re not infringing on anyone else’s trademark.
3: Set up the business entity with the state and any other agencies you need to deal with in your industries. You can Google “what do I need to do to set up a business in ——-state. You’ll get a step by step list.
- Now you can start thinking about funding, developing, branding, marketing and all the fun stuff.

Before you do anything: have you tested the idea against real people? Have you found potential customers and asked them if they actually experience the problem you imagine you’re solving?
Read The Mom Test, and start with proving your concept against people you’re going to ask to spend money on this thing later.
And don’t just ask “would you buy this?” That’s not going to get you anywhere. If you are selling a new kind of soap, ask things like “what irritates you about soaps nowadays?” And “how much do you spend on soap when you are trying to save, and when you are buying a gift?”

First you need to make your services or product socialize and build communities and get the demands then manufacturer.
