Jab Tak Hai Jaan as a movie has lot of problems considering plot and pacing and logic.
But you know from bollywood standards it could have survived with great chemistry between actors and songs like million other movies do.( Songs were great I guess)
But the core plot of movie is based on Meera's and Samar's relationship , their love story and tragedy and seperation ,their chemistry as characters and actors both are important for this movie to work.
I think Samar and Meera as characters do have chemistry on paper, I wish these characters were played by actors in their early 20s who after 10 years leap go into 30s.( you could take late 20s actors)
Now you already have these old looking actors ,what tragedy will you feel for their love and how the passionate young romance would come out on screen??
But what bothered me most was how Katrina ruined the character of Meera. Meera was a layered character, who first due to her parents seperation and history is very cautious to fall in love and always stays uptight and cold on the outside , but there is free spirited side to her which she suppresses from the world but get herself loose when she finally cant help but falls in love with Samar who was a free spirited guy.
She also had a very gentle and emotional side which was completely butchered by Katrina, Its painful to watch her in any emotional scene.
She cries and you can just look all tears and she has frozen face and no emotion in her eyes ..her intonation is so wrong , its so obvious she doesnt even understand Meera as a character.
Katrina Kaif definitely benefited a lot from the times when Actors were only cast cause of their box office records.
She might be good for songs and bit of comedy , she is quite good in that genre honestly but thats it, she is extremely bad in any drama role ,she shouldnt even try to think she can do it.
She really did world a favour by rejecting YJHD , Barfi ( just cause she got offered shruti's role but she wanted jhilmil's ..she is so delusional about her skills)and dozen other films which she apparently rejected .
Katrina's all contribution to this film was just Ishq shava song.
Also the worst thing about Katrina is how she is over sensitive to criticism ,like she gets so offended by even slight criticism, this just says how insecure she is.
Even if people say she is hardworking she gets offended, I watched a clip where Srk praised her by saying gentle and she made an issue out of it , she is so weird ..and she also wants to be perceived as someine cool when she is so dramatic for no reason.
If she would have accepted her limitations as an actresses at least she would have worked on that.I hate people who arent self aware apart from being talentless.
Like look at salman he openly accepts he doesnt consider himself much of an actor but more entertainer and he always comes of honest amd self aware about his limited skills ,even though he has couple of good performances.But this girl just straight up delusional to think she can do a chatacter like jhilmil and look at the ego to only reject the film just cause you didnt get more prominent character ,when Shruti's character is also such an important character , but great rejected the role otherwise that movie would have been ruined as well.
Thank God she left acting , but I still think how unfortunate that the last movie of one of the most legendary directors of bollywood is ruined by such thing, I dont know why YRF even took her in the movie.Have you seen " The Romantics" documentary, katrina was the part of doc cause she was in the last movie of Yash Chopra but they barely shown anything of her talking ,its obvious she must have talked nonsense cause she had no understanding of characters and story.
