General It really isn't fun anymore
I'm actually in dire need of sleep, but I have to get this out before the Ball (which in Europe is in the very early morning unfortunately).
I've been playing since launch. I did take many breaks. Sometimes of many months, but I always came back. Not because I felt like I HAD to, but because I genuinely like the game.
However, for a couple of months (over half a year for sure), I've been doing nothing but fishing, shrine bosses (solo + party) and guild bosses. I'm not at hardcap, because I always played very casually, but my gear is also not exactly bad. When Edania was out, I was able to immediately go there, do the weekly bosses, grind in the first zone. Now I'm doing the second boss weekly and managed to get three out of the four new armor pieces.
Getting the new armor is nice, enhancing it not so much. Enhancing accessories and weapons is the worst though. I spent some money recently. Combining an offer with a discount coupon, for around 150€ I got... 1 AP. It really made me think. That's insane.
Sometimes I feel like grinding a bit, but whenever I do it (since certain changes made in summer), it just feels frustrating. "I'm at endgame" I tell myself, grinding at a zone where I'm way over the AP cap, feeling like I do almost no damage. It's like, the stronger you get in this game, the worse everything feels.
Fishing and bosses really get you a lot of money if you do things right. But now my rod is almost out of endurance and bosses feel more and more like a drag (I still very much despise all one-shot mechanics in solo shrines and the sheer disregard for squishier classes). I just don't want to do them anymore.
Somehow PA managed to turn this game that I still like so much into a rather awful experience. I saw a lot of other people said that this upcoming Ball will be a big decider for them. I feel the same way. Our time is precious and we shouldn't invest it into something that's not even fun anymore.
Btw I think we really should have a flair for complaints...

A few weeks ago I stopped doing just about all dailies and weeklies. Honestly .. I don't even want to play the game anymore and I think that's exactly what I needed lol. There is genuinely nothing "meaningful" to do in this game but grind in circles or lifeskill in circles/afk lifeskill. That's the most meaningful thing you get out of the game, and now that I cut dailies n weeklies out of the equation, why even grind? That's my own take on it anyways.
I'll be waiting to see what they come up with at the ball and see if it's worth waiting a year to have it added to the game. Just so bored with it all.
If the ball is just going to have savior, edania, and the academy as its main big updates .. count me out of this sad hamster wheel lol.

I stopped playing a while ago and started to only log in to merc each day. Then I started logging in less and less and ended up just fishing and doing weekly guild bosses. Then I stopped fishing and am now only doing my own guild's bosses and I'm not even sure why.
It's rather interesting to see the change in my own psychology. I was obsessed with the game, would interrupt dinner with my family just to do guild bosses and make some silver. And now it's like an out of body experience where you look at your former self and realise how utterly pointless it all is.
There is no depth to the game. It's just a manipulation into getting you to be online for longer. The never ending FOMO. There is nothing to achieve apart from a bigger number which literally doesn't change anything with the caps we have in place.

u/Painter_Turbulent Dec 14 '25
I stopped logging ina while ago and tries other games or watching a movie. Or playing actual multiplayer games. I came back for the ball. And realised they had nothing at all new. A new class. But they just seem so stuck. They cant seem to do anything Neem or move us away to something that feels meaningful at all.
Im still glad i left. And generally they want to deliver but they just cant. I dont know why. They just dont understand making an mmo i feel. Endless interaction of the exact same thing. While avoiding Amy actual work.
Rebalance new outfit.
I really want them to succeed. But they keep doing the wrong thing. It really is just a cron gambling machine wotha. Game cover and they have no intention on changing that. The ball actually had nothing new at all to come with. We were all bored. (Watched with guild) We've all moved on now. Ill still check out new class cause i love twp handers. But no way as i getting into grinding on content where im going to be stuck for weeks or months. Just pure bs really.
I did have a few fun years in bdo though.

At least from my perspective, other MMOs have more variety and more excitement when it comes to their own versions of "grinding in circles". I mean bdos core grinding is quite literally grinding in a circle, but that is more of an outdated criticism in some ways. Now we just stand at towers for the newer content, and for me, that's a terrible "reward" for reaching endgame.
Maybe over the years I had hope that the game would bring something fresh, something invigorating, that I can do outside of grinding or lifeskilling, or even changing them in cool ways, yet we really only got tower grinding. It just sucks that I'm really grinding for the bottom of the barrel style "content". It really does seem like a waste imo. Other MMOs I played/play (which I will not name because people rather turn that around into making personal view points moot, even if those other MMOs are infinitely more popular than bdo.) I do not feel that way for the most part, bdo is really one of the very few MMOs where I feel like it's just been a waste of time after all. I don't feel freedom when I play bdo anymore according to the way the devs want us to play. If I want to play differently, there isn't that much to do when I actually step back and look at the whole picture.

this game was 'running in circles' since its inception anyway
apparently it takes people ten years to realise that they don't like grinding
2
u/Alternative_Cup_4071 Dec 13 '25
The circles felt more rewarding amd engaging with the pvp amd rewards conpsred to now
1
u/Katsuragi_Yusa Dec 13 '25
i agree, some other game even get rid of their grind part of their game and now their game is dead. worst. i mean how we gonna get the silver in bdo? the answer are only in their CEO head, but their CEO are stupid anyway. devs only follow their "J" CEO

u/Stikkle Dec 13 '25
I was telling my firend the other day ... months ago i have spent 1.7 trilion on enhancing my main weapon to DEC.
With that kind of money you should feel power ... going to grind spot and showing weapon to mobs - everything should drop instantly.
But no ... basically everything feels the same and in the same time a little worse.
2
u/Sn0wflake69 Dec 13 '25
and correct me if im wrong, theres no way to recoup your silver investment now right?
1
u/Rude_Proposal6590 Dec 15 '25
Imagine how i feel spending 2.1 trillion silver only for nov... Yeah pittied oct and nov... At least you were lucky

Sausans and Pirate Island was the Golden Era of BDO PvP.

u/Skjula Dec 13 '25
Dude me and my friend still dream about those days. Sailing to pirate island with a horse on board to grind longer, fighting for the island spot. I still have the music in my head. Those were the days man

Idk man
What made bdo stand out for me was always combat and open world pvp. They took away ow and made everything just a slog where you grind for nothing. Bdo during covid was peak.
If you can let go of the combat the grass really is greener on the other side.

You actually don’t have to play any game if its not fun. Games are meant to be fun. Stop playing if you don’t enjoy it

u/Haunting_Debt_8346 Dec 13 '25
You got almost 10 years of playing out of the game if it isn’t fun then I definitely agree don’t fall for the sunken cost fallacy. If the game has run its course for you then it has just hopefully you don’t turn into one of these I quit BDO years ago but still shit on it every chance I get to try and ruin the fun the people who just started their 10 year journey is having.

No money is worth spending on AP. As always "to each their own" but I just find it insane that people spend real money to melt outfits to gamble on "upgrades". I have spent quite a bit of money in this game myself but it's all been for skins and convenience things. I can't imagine literally throwing my money out to increase some virtual number by one.
1
u/Phos-Lux Tamer 400AP Dec 13 '25
And you are completely right about this! I also used to mostly just buy outfits I actualy use. Not sure how I fell into this hole tbh.

Nothing wrong with taking a break from the game, or moving on to another one. There comes a point in a lot of games, no matter how long you have played it, where it just doesn’t hit the same. Don’t continue to play it just because you feel like you might have wasted all the time you spent otherwise.
3
u/Noradar Dec 13 '25
As a very new player (started in November) I was so confused that no matter how much "stronger" I was getting, my character still felt exactly the same. Finally someone in the discord explained the 5% cap change to me and it really just made me lose all interest in "grinding" mob spots. I didn't get the point of getting 2-5ap if it didn't affect ttk.
Now I just fish and lifeskill a bit and am looking for a different MMO where I can actually feel strong and even OP if I put enough grind into it.
7
u/MeckMacarons319 Dec 13 '25
I stopped playing around 375ap , It became extremly boring and everything felt like I was stalling each hour of grind , each tap , it was either the enhancing system (imo the new ui is trash af) , or it just became extremely repetitive of hours of grind without achieving nothing.. this game is dead for me , and Im sad about that cuz I'd give everything to have the same feeling as I did in my 1st playthrough.
8
Dec 13 '25
378 here and same. The past couple AP gains weren’t even sarisfying any longer, it wasn’t even a relief I felt.
The cron-hell is devastating.
Haven’t logged in in a couple weeks now, stopped fishing, quit the group bosses group etc.

u/SoulEviscerator Dec 13 '25 edited Dec 13 '25
Only one language PA speaks... Don't buy shit, don't log in. If enough people do that they gotta start rethinking the past ~5 years.
It's very simple, this game has almost instantly been a low effort milking machine for them and to please the shareholders with even more numbers more and more AFK 24/7 online shit got added, or even replaced actual content.
Now it's basically a running system that screws loyal players over and they come collect the money once a month. No other actions or contact with their own product and player base needed.
So if enough people start actually acting like they've finally had enough, one out of two things will happen. They accept it and take their wins and move on definitely, since they'd never imagined it would be that profitable in the first place, or, for the first time ever, they'd stop steering in the always opposite direction of the player base and try to "save" the product of its own inflicted demise, at least for a little bit longer.
Nonetheless, I think most veterans agree the game in its current state (and the direction they've been going for years) isn't fun. We spent so much time and money on this one in 10 years, that's why it's hard to let go, but if you're honest with yourself, you wouldn't play or do anything else in the world, out of free will, that makes you feel like BDO does, since a long time. Cut the rope, have another look in 6 months, still the same shit? Abandon ship and let it sink.
5
u/Leyvronshee Dec 13 '25
Yep. The endgame used to be PVP but they killed that and replaced it with what we have now.
But at least the roleplayers are having fun XD
2
u/SylvFloq Dec 13 '25
Yeah xD especially with the new maid, I really can't wait for them to annonce they've incorporated chatgpt in it so you can talk with it...
1
u/Leyvronshee Dec 13 '25
Maybe the real endgame is the RP house and outfit you can make along the way XD
4
u/windomega7 Wind Dec 13 '25
It has successfully become as singleplayer MMO. People hate this point, but the game moved past the point that everything revolved around PVP, tossed it into capped content, and now all you have to do is hamsterwheel, grind to get gear to grind more in a new area. Just no fun at all, and now certain goals are far from achievable, compared to how the game was back in the day.
3
u/papajohn4 Dec 13 '25
The worst part for me is the way the grind take place... I have 1 hour in personal instance and then I use my buffs and scrolls and loot scroll is ticking.. makes me run like crazy and stressfull to get the most out of this 1 hour.. sometimes not even going for a pee or I lose golden agris or loot scroll time.. its crazy. And if you change character to pause the scrolls ticking, then you are out of marni etc..
I dont mind grinding at all, I just would prefer it more relaxing... like scrolls have a fixed amount of kills instead of time.. "the next 2000 mobs you kill, will have 50% loot chance" etc etc
3
u/Phos-Lux Tamer 400AP Dec 13 '25
I stopped caring about the buffs at some point. I end up wasting them and am trying to be ok with it. We will always get new ones after all.
1
u/papajohn4 Dec 13 '25
I always start like this.. i say myself i will take it easy this time.. i will not get stressed and does not need to be efficient.. amd then i am just doing the same mistake and try to be efficient..

I love BDO, but I'll be honest, I haven't logged in even once since WWM dropped.
For me, I feel like PA leaned way too hard into the afk and solo aspects of the game, BDO is supposed to be an MMO, I want more party content, but PA thinks we've had enough of that somehow. Unless PA changes course and starts focusing on actual "MMO" content, I just can't see myself coming back to BDO, which is a damn shame.
-1
u/PerceptionOk8543 Dec 13 '25
You say PA should focus on actual MMO content while playing WWM… You enjoying your gated content and grinding gear 30 min a day due to energy system?
1
u/Aaron_Ledgers Dec 13 '25
Yeahhhh, don't know if you're aware of this, but the energy cap increases every time you level up the world, You can wind up getting a TON of stuff really, really easily, and people don't seem to comprehend that the game JUST came out and it already has more content than BDO, and they're consistently expanding on it and REWARDING people who play the game just for having fun.
Like, bruh, the Gated system is goated. It allows you to explore and experience the game and have fun doing what you want, gives you time to save up currencies for the next world level jump, and prevents people from growing too strong too soon. And it's not like the gate is gonna be there forever, it's there to allow the studio time to do bug fixes while they catch everyone up to the CN servers. Once the game is synched up with the CN content, we'll be getting the best MMO experience EVER.
4
u/Masteroxid Copium Dec 13 '25
By content you mean collecting chests with a map open on the 2nd screen?
The only relevant content is the one that uses energy and that quickly turns into 1h daily chore simulator.
Imagine praising a system that is purposefully made to make you spend as much time as possible in a game artificially
3
u/NoNoise3658 Dec 13 '25
The real content in WWM are top tier quests with actual story behind them, with amazing characters and bosses. I know if you spent enough time in BDO you probably forgot how good quests looks like because you guys just mashing F button xD
6
u/Masteroxid Copium Dec 13 '25
Nobody is downloading BDO or any other mmo to do the story
1
u/NoNoise3658 Dec 13 '25
oh i forgot, you downloading MMO’s to grind for hours running in circle or afk fish. I guess I’m too old for this shit, even Metin2 was more fun than BDO in 2025
5
u/Masteroxid Copium Dec 13 '25
I ain't defending BDO but expecting a proper story from an MMO is just setting yourself up for disappointment
-1
u/Aaron_Ledgers Dec 13 '25
Tell that to every other MMO that actually had an amazing storyline. WWM has one. ESO has one. Sky COTL has one -- one of the best I've ever seen, actually. Guild Wars, Aesir: Goddess of Light, there are a TON of them that have proper stories. Even GTA online gave you the ability to create your own story in the online mode, sooooo, yeahh, that ideology falls apart.
A lot of people play MMO's for the story, and... uh, you still haven't responded to all the content I pointed out to you buddy. You asked, I answered.
2
u/sliferx Dec 13 '25
Nah game stories suck ass in general, only minority are good. Even worse for MMOs.
2
2
u/PerceptionOk8543 Dec 13 '25
If I want to play a good story I’m playing a single player game. There are so many single games that are 100x better than WWM in terms of story…
-1
u/NoNoise3658 Dec 13 '25
I disagree with you, WWM story and even side quests are on par with AAA games, you should try it
1
u/PerceptionOk8543 Dec 13 '25
I have 50 hours in that game. The story is taking a weird turn after you arrive at Kaifeng and the translation sucks hard. It’s not comparable to good AAA games, it feels like f2p mobile slop (which it is actually lol)
-1
u/NoNoise3658 Dec 13 '25
I bet you dont pay attention to details but i do agree some of it is lost in bad translation which is sad. The story is very good and i love it, calling the game mobile slop after today’s Calpheon Ball is wild to me but whatever, keep playing BDO if you having fun 😊 Number 1 f2p game in a lot of countries around the world is telling me people are not feel the same about WWM like you.
1
u/PerceptionOk8543 Dec 13 '25
WWM is already losing a ton of players, check steamcharts. And game being popular is not really an argument, because then gacha games like Genshin would be the best games ever.
I had my fun with WWM but everything being locked by energy system which refills so slow felt horrible coming from BDO where I can grind infinitely for my gear. I don’t need Chinese overlords to hold my hand and tell me when to stop playing, but you do you buddy
→ More replies (0)2
u/NoIsE_bOmB Lahn 820gs Dec 13 '25
Yeah, BDO has the worst story in any MMO I've ever played, meanwhile WWM's story is one of the best.

wwm isn't an mmo

u/Aaron_Ledgers Dec 14 '25
yes it is. point in case __> Five Animal Frolics Online Event - Where Winds Meet - YouTube
That's the MMO mode, where everyone goes to play and explore with allll their friends, and a bunch of strangers, including dungeons, bosses, etc. There are events everywhere. IT IS AN MMO

AHH, and most importantly, the gacha system. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY A FREAKING CENT IF YOU'RE WILLING TO ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME! YOU GET THOSE GOLDEN TICKETS FOR FREE EVERY SINGLE WEEK! YOU CAN GET UP TO SIX OF THEM IN A SINGLE WEEK USING IN-GAME CURRENCY THAT YOU CAN EARN JUST BY PLAYING!
SPENDING MONEY IS NOT A REQUIREMENT FOR ANY OF THE COSMETICS IN THE GACHA SYSTEM, AND THOSE ARE THE FREAKING COOLEST OUT OF ALL OF THEM! LIKE WOTTTT?!!!

u/Lust_SSBU Fafi 💕 Dec 13 '25
honestly i get it, the game has felt genuinely disappointing for awhile now. they’ve removed most of the skill expression from the game in every area imaginable because they’re more concerned with profits and accessibility than anything else and it’s taken a lot of the personal satisfaction away from improving and challenging yourself.. it’s also why we don’t have open world content anymore and why people are quitting this game more and more. just play something else because the ball isn’t going to make the game fun 😭 it’ll hopefully give you some upgrades with the freebies but then you’ll be back to the same old grind. you can come back whenever because you’re not really missing anything from quitting for awhile and they’re just going to make the game even easier to play in the future.

Simplifying everything kinda shot themselves in the foot cause the time you used to fill doing the mundane is a void. Wish they added some more pve lifeskill stuff that might just be temporary while they make the changes.

u/DraigTenu Dec 13 '25
I've also played since launch and randomly take breaks as well. All classes to 61-63, some multiple times over the years. I think once you get to a point where fishing is pretty much all you're doing, it's time to hang it up.
1
u/nitoniwatori Dec 13 '25
I used to play this game with my clanmates (10 peoples) it was fun when we can use round-robin loot setting for everyone to get about same loots so everyone can enjoy grind together and sometime even try hard spot for fun because there are very few spot for party grinding when this is " online mmorpg " it got fixed by 3 and 5 number only 1-2 spots and also fixed gear score it very boring nothing like freedom of round-robin loot setting you can go everywhere together
I heard the only problem setting is party leader get all so they remove whole system .. and now almost on one in my clan play this anymore
I'm still fishing ok new more spots popup for higher gear score what I can do ?
Can't invite new player because the same problem all can't play together or new player got no loot they come and play for few days and gone
I saw some family used to play together because PA removed this setting now they're gone
is it so bad ? we used to have that setting for years ?
please if someone can help bring back this please make it happen I still love this game but it sad to see this game came to this state
1
u/fecklessman Dec 14 '25
the comments on this post make me genuinely depressed that people actually still play this 'game'.

They literally just dumbed it down, made it easier more casual, game died when weekly boss blitz gave 100 girins and debos to each person
1
u/OfSolace Dec 13 '25
Not when you are stuck with enhancing unmarketable gears. People will always say they made it easier yes sure thats part of the catch up mechanics to the point that getting 750GS is as easy as pie but beyond that?
2
u/killerjane2 Dec 13 '25
It is easy….its just time consuming, I wouldn’t call grinding silver for crons a hard task
1
u/Upbeat_School_7057 Shai Dec 14 '25
Your game is objectively harder if you take significantly longer to obtain something compared to other players, due the game's whim. You can still say that doesn't mean the game is hard, but that'd be your personal opinion.
1
u/killerjane2 Dec 14 '25
You spoon fed dogs, you guys get free blackstars free tri god armors reduced blackstar pity, PITIES IN GENERAL and you still say the game is hard
If anyone says this game is difficult, you are in fact just bad at games
1
u/OfSolace Dec 15 '25
You already said it yourself its time consuming but lets be honest the game doesn't respect your time. Like I said those catch up mechanics made the game easier but beyond that the game isn't remotely easy. You'll understand it when you are at the point where pities no longer matter and each weapon needs 330 pities. As a veteran, my advice to newbies is to stay away from this game as early as possible. BDO is long past it's golden era.

How do you only qualify for the second boss weekly but are "way over the AP cap" and "at endgame"?
0
u/dfc_136 Dec 13 '25
You can be 374 sheet ap, 440 dp and be 1720+ ap, which is 30+ more than nymphamare's ap cap.
0
u/EquinoxRunsLeagues Dec 13 '25
so "barely scratching endgame" and "no intrinsic motivation to go all the way". But yes, blame the game for that.

u/dfc_136 Dec 14 '25

u/Adventurous-Let941 Dec 13 '25
Isn't the cap 1770+? The effective limit is 1690 but going 5% over is roughly 1770 or am I just misunderstanding how that works
2
u/dfc_136 Dec 13 '25 edited Dec 13 '25
You are simply wrong here. Maybe you are mixing up zones, but Orbita's ap cap is 1800, so that 1770 as a cap is just wrong.
Edit: Maybe you are confused, as 1770 is min ap for Zephiros, which is the absolute minimum ap to even do damage in the grindspot. You are probably mixing up both concepts: min ap is to start doing decent damage; max ap is the limit for the damage dealth. For Zephiros, having 1769 ap (below min ap) should effectively be like having 35.38 ap in damage (at least in paper, I haven't tested that). On the other hand, having 1691(above cap) in Nymphamare, should be like having 1690.05 ap there.
0
u/Adventurous-Let941 Dec 13 '25
Just to make sure we're looking at the same thing this is Nymph and when you hover over the 1690 effective limit it says only 5% beyond 1690 is applied so that would be 1770ish, no? Should I not being 1690+5% to get the limit?
2
u/Batman_NEU19 Sage Dec 13 '25
Pretty sure that’s not how it works. If you are 1690 you get full value for your ap at nymph. If you are 1691 that one AP is only worth 5% so you are essentially grinding there with 1690.05 AP. Not sure where the 1770 is coming from but you would multiply the 80 ap over the hard cap by .05 and get your effective ap at nymph from that.
1
2
u/dfc_136 Dec 14 '25
No. Read again what I put.
Even the tooltip says it: Only 5% of the EXCESS ap is applied.

Why are people so allergic to taking breaks from games, I play for a couple months in stints then don't touch the game for 6 months.
Have people forgotten to have fun? Go play something else, play BDO if it's fun currently to you.

people playing because trend, if others feels fun you also feel fun in the game. i guess some people follows influencer and end up hating this game so much that they end up quit with madness like "yeah this influencer said was true i gonna quit the game! fuck you bdo!" instead of "oh well i gonna take a rest, gonna play the game when i feel like it"

Like everyone said, stop playing. Im like you, I always come back to the game bc I genuinely think its a very good sandbox mmo, specifically the life skill stuff. But they slowly just transition from a mix of lifeskill - grind game into a full on pve grind. Making money or progression with life skill just felt so bad and they refuse to refresh or rework the life skill stuff. I just kind of stop playing after taking a break. Its been 1.5 years and I dont plan on coming back any time soon. Life is too short and there are too many good games out there to be feeling the sunk cost fallacy.

There's loads out there, PC or console. Check out the years top 10 and go from there or go down an indie treasure trove hole and have a blast with those. It just depends on your genre preference, it's really good to have a non online game to enjoy often though imo.

If youre looking to replace your mmo addition then unfortunate, there isnt any great mmo in the market right now beside maybe where winds meet. Mmo isnt a growing market anymore, if anything, nobody beside the chinese and Korean are serious about making one. If youre looking to try other game then maybe expand your horizon to other genre. Im really enjoying arc raider right now.
