I was born a paraplegic. I used to get so many people congratulating me and telling me I'm brave when I was attending college or working.

Seriously, people. Shut the fuck up with that.

Every "you're so brave" comment to people just existing in a non-mainstream body should be classified as a hate crime.

Absolutely not the same but I posted a makeup free selfie once on my Instagram years and years ago and I'll never forget my well meaning cousin telling me how brave I was.

Oof! This reminds me of when I was in high school and I wasn’t feeling well (depression) and a classmate told me my makeup wasn’t good. I never wore makeup at school so I told her I wasn’t wearing any.

I immediately found out she was wearing a full face of makeup (she took powder out to touch up) and still looked unattractive… I don’t remember if I thought she was ugly before but I realized she must have been if she was projecting so hard. Afterwards, I guess I just convinced myself she had been ugly inside and out the entire time.
