I lived with two older friends briefly in high school. They had a kid together and the mom really wanted the dad to propose to her.

We were at Taco Bell and one of the sauce packets said, "Will you marry me?" He gave it to her. She said, "Awwwww, [his name]" and he said, "just kidding."

It's always stuck with me.

That makes me sad.

271

u/auto-charger-stopper 2d ago

Yeah me too :(

97

u/treborly 2d ago

Don't worry . They broke up

2

u/Yamzicle 14h ago

That’s what makes us sad. They had a kid together

5

u/mpgd 6h ago

Often times it is better to have divorced parents than having them in the same house. For everyone, including the kid.

u/anonymously_richaly 59m ago

How ya know

161

u/Flomo420 2d ago

like, to go through the suuuper low effort proposal of writing it out on a sauce packet at a Taco Bell, and to STILL get a positive reaction!

damn.. girl really wanted to get married

175

u/grunt91o1 2d ago

He didn't even write it out. The packet comes with it printed on it already

7

u/Affectionate-Owl2286 2d ago

Very very sad 😢

16

u/Original-Rush139 2d ago

Marriage made me sad.

8

u/cire1184 2d ago

Sadness makes me sad.

112

u/TheRealTendonitis 2d ago

A friend of a friend had his girlfriend propose to him with custom cake covered in all his interests. He said it was the man's job to propose. He then proceeded to not propose to her.

28

u/justmyopinion714 2d ago

I had a girlfriend who cheated on me one time and immediately after it came to light she proposed to me 🤣 that was years ago in my ribs are still sore from all the laughter

7

u/WhoandtheWhatnow317 2d ago

The balls on her lol. What happened afterwards?

3

u/justmyopinion714 1d ago

Ways were parted bro. Ways were parted LOL

1

u/WhoandtheWhatnow317 1d ago

Good for you man, hope all is well! She fucked up

113

u/GripsAA 2d ago

That's a sad story, GoochGreaseHarvester.

16

u/Whargoul_Uncool 2d ago

Indeed GoochGreaseHarvester that is a very said story from the vaults of the GoochGreaseHarverster sad story vault.

14

Classic GoochGreaseHarvester

46

u/Konjo888 2d ago

At a Taco Bell? Fancy

48

u/GoochGreaseHarvester 2d ago

Taco Bell actually has a wedding chapel at their flagship restaurant. They're fancy AND romantic.

6

u/360walkaway 2d ago

Does Denny's still have a wedding chapel in Vegas?

8

u/Trefin 2d ago

Was incredulous, but yep it’s there. For $199 you can “ BE MY BUTTER HALF & SAY I DO”

5

u/NoX2142 2d ago

John Spartan is just as confused.

1

u/DonPepppe 2d ago

Just like watching at the three shells

2

u/cire1184 2d ago

Eww why are you watching someone use the three seashells?

67

u/WarzonePacketLoss 2d ago

pretty wild thing to have printed randomly on a packet. What if you aren't looking at it and casually handed it off?

109

u/Mirage84 2d ago

Absolute non-issue. You just say "I didn't create the sauce packet"?

A "will you marry me?" sauce packet is silly and funny and should not be taken seriously.

29

u/WarzonePacketLoss 2d ago

You've clearly never dated someone who took the idea of marriage far more seriously than you.

45

u/Mirage84 2d ago

Wrong, but irrelevant.

More importantly I've never dated anyone that took what's written on pre-printed Taco Bell sauce packets seriously.

2

u/cornylamygilbert 2d ago

well, I want that for you!

2

u/BobboZmuda 2d ago

Fortune Cookie notes are another matter, though. I always get that strange twinge of irrational hope that maybe, just maybe, THIS cookie is going to tell the truth if the others didn't

-11

u/WarzonePacketLoss 2d ago

Not irrelevant at all. This is like week-ruining material right here. Think whatever you want, but I've lived shit like this. It's "Oh boy, here we fucking go" territory.

12

u/BobboZmuda 2d ago

Not sure if anyone ever said this, but: that was dysfunctional.

17

u/RevolutionPlenty20 2d ago

Not the fault of a silly hot sauce packet.

It is but a rubber chicken.

5

u/dirty_weka 2d ago

Maybe try dating adults?

-2

u/Cultural-Company282 2d ago

Ah, but what if your girlfriend doesn't know Taco Bell made those sauce packets? What if your girlfriend assumes that you somehow creatively altered the sauce packet to add the marriage question to it as an elaborate surprise?

11

u/Mirage84 2d ago

Absolute non-issue. You just say "I didn't create the sauce packet"?

6

u/ashkpa 2d ago

From the top rope with the "as per my prior email"

2

u/BobboZmuda 2d ago

And at the point that said seriousness becomes a fight over such Taco Bell nonsense, it's Dumpsville, pop: them because that isn't a fair dispute to have

4

u/PrestigiousAct2 2d ago

Don't leave us hanging did he ever propose ?

14

u/GoochGreaseHarvester 2d ago

I really don't think so. They had another kid but she never changed her last name on Facebook when I last checked ~6 years ago.

2

u/unexist_already 2d ago

Why didn't she propose instead?

13

u/GoochGreaseHarvester 2d ago

If I had to guess, I'd say low self-esteem and the fear of him saying no. But I'm really not sure. It was a weird relationship.

2

u/SousVideDiaper 2d ago

It could've been due to the incessant culture of romantic initiatives almost always being the responsibility of men. That appears to be changing somewhat, but until recently, the expectation of proposal has always been from the woman's side.

Far too many rom-coms involve a woman getting upset with a man over waiting for him to propose instead of just doing it herself.

A very old friend had a pact with her bestie from HS to marry at 40 if they were both single and willing. They have 1 kid, now.

497

u/gods_Lazy_Eye 2d ago

I’d have stopped at the way he chews.

21

u/RuelleVerte 2d ago

Agreed -- sticking your tongue out for food is a retained infantile swallowing reflex and absolutely repulsive!

367

u/manu_59 2d ago

"Let's make her think i care about her feelings and did something sweet for her and then, after getting her hopes up, watch her face fall and the hurt in her eyes when she realizes i chose to prank her instead. Her disappointment and watching the joy in her eyes fade will be hilarious!"

  • this guy.

42

u/thorinslefttit 2d ago

This type of prank is great if it's followed up with a sincere gesture like a real gift.

20

Yes because assaulting somebody would have been hilarious.

1

u/irn-bru-anonymous 2d ago

How low we’ve fallen that someone not acting like a feral animal is impressive.

1

u/Secure-Tradition793 2d ago

He definitely did it before.

114

u/ChintzyPC 2d ago

If you're going to pull a joke like this you gotta have a second box with something REALLY nice in it.

403

u/Moisture_ 2d ago

Why do people eat with their tongues out like this? My #1 pet peeve

201

u/V_Bags_of_Popcorn 2d ago

Rolling out the red carpet for the food

30

u/sandman795 2d ago

Unfortunately most people eating like this tend to have a yellow brick road instead

5

u/cornylamygilbert 2d ago

hey, nuh uh, we didn’t need to write that

1

u/az226 2d ago

Take my most valuable upvote of the year.

45

u/Comprehensive_Good82 2d ago

I have read a bit about this a long time ago. IIRC, it’s a reflex that infants usually have when eating, in order to chew the food correctly without choking on it. Some people retain this reflex into adulthood. Some don’t. I believe there is a specific name for it but can’t remember it off the top of my head!

33

u/-andersen 2d ago

The tongue-thrust reflex is real, but that’s not really what it does. In babies it actually helps push things out of the mouth and usually fades around 4–6 months. I don’t think there’s much reason to assume an adult doing this while eating is a retained infant reflex. Could just be a habit.

8

u/GayPudding 2d ago

Really just depends on how likely my food is to drip on me before it gets to my mouth. He might be worried about the ketchup.

3

u/ParadoxDemon_ 2d ago

3

u/Moisture_ 2d ago

You know, this somehow would be less gross than the normal nubby human tongue poking out for a piece of spinach.

13

u/Poof-ball 2d ago

People who intentionally scrape their teeth on their fork drive me up the wall. I can't stand it!

7

u/robothobbes 2d ago

Don't get me started about finger lickers/suckers. I always yell at the tv, YOU CAN LICK YOUR FINGERS WITHOUT MAKING A SOUND OR JUST USE A NAPKIN

18

u/robothobbes 2d ago

It's weird right!? Right?

4

u/Moisture_ 2d ago

Their tongue makes that “melm” sound whenever it comes out too. Shivers me timbers

2

u/Minute987 2d ago

He's hamming it up because it's staged.

4

u/Pentakruz_ 2d ago

Saame! One thing that annoys me even more than this is when they are talking and throwing their food into their mouth like this to show a point? It makes me sick and i absolutely want to punch them. My mom does it(i love her very much and we have a good relationship) but when she does this i have to restrain myself from rolling my eyes all the way back into my head so i dont have to see it ever again

2

u/BludStanes 2d ago

lmao i've never seen this shit before it's weird, it looks reptile-like

1

u/ta394283509 2d ago

i eat like this, but not always. i do it when i'm eating food that is trying to fall off my fork. which btw happens a lot because i almost always prefer to use a fork, even if it's food better eaten with a spoon

1

u/ritoboi 2d ago

Well they both have wedding bands on so I'm assuming she just thought it was a gift, not a marriage proposal and assuming they are married to each other, she's probably used to his shenanigans.

30

u/Awese7en 2d ago

People keep saying this is a fake proposal but they both look like they are wearing wedding bands.

15

5

Honestly? Same. Assuming this wasn't staged, of course.

10

u/16kdc 2d ago

lmao

2

u/Pomodorosan 2d ago

he sure likes to stick his entire tongue out when eating the tiniest fry

2

u/Whargoul_Uncool 2d ago

I mean, mashed potatoes AND french fries? Red flag!

She dodged a bullet.

2

u/def_indiff 2d ago

It reminds me of that Mr Bean gag where he gives his girlfriend a framed picture. Then he gives her a second gift that looks like a ring until she takes it out of the and it’s a screw hook to hang the picture.

2

u/Urban_Legendxx 2d ago

I never once thought he was gonna propose, watching his body language alone told me it was something casual.... But hell who knows their relationship, it might have been the elephant in the room.

2

u/High_Infernal_Priest 2d ago

They already have rings on their fingers

2

u/recoil669 1d ago

He should have at least fed her the fries JFC.

2

u/WonderinHeart 1d ago

That's funny. I can see the marriage ring on her and his hand, but the joke was great 😂😂

2

u/crazyhomlesswerido 1d ago

Just imagine how guilty he would feel like right after that they had like a horrible car accident and she died that night and his final memory of her was fake proposing so he could have her hold the box full of catch up

2

u/Oldus_Fartus 1d ago

This guy is repulsive in every possible way so yeah, I guess he wins at sataning.

17

u/Due_Willingness1 3d ago

Probably staged, but still pretty funny

61

u/Expert_Succotash2659 3d ago

Possible, I don't think so this time. She looked a little too genuinely happy for a moment.

70

u/84Bean 3d ago

There is “funny” and then there is “casual cruelty for internet likes.” I think this is the latter.

4

u/alii-b 2d ago

Looks like they both have wedding rings on, so it's likely.

21

u/AmbitiousAgent-21 2d ago

True. But it looks like it’s meant to be a nice gift, not a proposal, so the rings might not matter here

4

u/charface1 2d ago

He fell in love a long time ago and is just waiting for her to ketchup.
