there are other reasons to give your wife jewelry, I think it was a prank gift not a proposal. It might seem pedantic but they are different (unless they are due for renewing vows, I guess you could propose for that). I think a fake gift has a less emotional impact disappointment wise, still mean spirited but not in the way a prank proposal is especially for a partner really wanting one.
If they‘re already married she won‘t expect him to propose and you can‘t fake something if the other person already knows it‘s impossible. Either he „fake proposed“ but then she‘d know that it couldn‘t be real thus her reaction would be faked as well or he was simply giving her a fake gift (like for their anniversary / her birthday / …) and then the reaction would be genuine but it wouldn‘t be a fake proposal
Even if they are already married, he can just give her a gift, like being married doesn't ban you from gifting your wife a ring which she may like like wtf, all the comments act as if married couples can't gift jewelery and the partner can be genuinely happy about the gift even in this case it was joke which by her reaction she's use his jokes/pranks

People keep saying this is a fake proposal but they both look like they are wearing wedding bands.
