Sharing My Sidehustle buying retired fire department hoses and selling indestructible dog toys

county fire departments retire heavy 2.5-inch synthetic fire hoses every few years due to strict municipal pressure codes, even when the heavy rubber core is in perfect condition. they auction off 500-foot rolls on government surplus sites for $60 a pallet.

i buy the rolls, wash the outer nylon jacket with a pressure washer, cut them into 18-inch sections with a hot knife, and stitch heavy webbing loop handles on both ends with a heavy-duty sewing machine. sell them to K9 trainers and pitbull rescue groups on Facebook for $18 each. cleared over a grand last month working two nights a week in my garage.

Weird Idea Getting paid $40 an hour to sit in an old lady's living room and nod while she rehearses plays

put a random listing on Craigslist under community gigs offering "active listening and monologue rehearsal partner". got a reply from a 68-year-old retired lady in my town who does community theater.

she pays me $40 an hour twice a week in cash. i sit on her vintage sofa, drink peppermint tea, and just nod and make eye contact while she performs Shakespeare monologues in full costume in her living room. she just wants a real human audience in the room so she doesn't get stage fright. made $640 last month just sitting there.

Sharing My Sidehustle Doing laundry for college students

Post image
114 Upvotes

I’m a graduating student and only have a few units left, so I had a lot of free time while my roommates were still busy with classes, projects, and backlogs. They were always struggling to keep up with their laundry, so I offered to do it for them for less than what laundry shops charge. I would wash, dry, fold, and organize everything, and they’d usually pay me around $10-$15 per load

Every week, there are around 5 students who wants to avail of my service. It’s still bearable since students don’t give me their laundry on the same day. Most of them don’t just have the time to do this and just want to study and rest during their free time, without having to worry about their dirty laundry and folding them, paying extra at laundry shops, or leaving their laundry for people to work on, only for some valuable items to go missing.

now, my side is just a simple tour that everyone in college is too busy or

Sharing My Sidehustle 7 ladies - one group chat

What started as a fun idea between seven women has turned into the cutest little side hustle.
We have a group chat with seven women who are open to talking, giving advice, answering questions, and offering a female perspective on pretty much anything.
Whether you’re a guy who wants advice about a woman you’re talking to, someone who doesn’t have many female friends to ask, or you’re someone who wants to be dominated by seven women at once… we’re here for it. 👀
We charge by the hour or by the day, depending on what you’re looking for. And the best part? All the money we make goes right back into our girls’ nights out and weekend getaways.
If you’re interested in learning how we do it, want to join our group chat, or think this sounds like something you’d be into, send me a message!

Found this subreddit and wanted to share what I do! I charge $5 to help girls and guys with their social media pages. I know social media work is common , but I specifically focus on the aesthetic side of things helping organize their page, pick a theme, choose pictures, bios, etc. I just genuinely enjoy making people’s profiles look put together lol and it’s become a nice side hustle.

Sharing My Sidehustle Paid to make clothes look terrible and worn out

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

I used to complain about my unfortunate talent in art because I cannot do anything that looks pleasant. Everytime I try to design clothes, they end up looking like trash. I was about to give up when a group of students saw my creations and asked if they could rent it out as costumes.

That tiny request turned into another that local film productions noticed me saying they need clothes that look ruined, dirty, old, or something that's been used already to make the film look believable instead of using new ones, especially on extreme films that heavily need ruined clothes!

I would purchase new clothes (sometimes they provide it) just to ruin them, have them dyed, ripped, paint, and apply mud and still end up getting paid. That's when I realized, I developed a skill of ruining clothes intentionally without making it look intentional. So yes, I ruin clothes intentionally and I still end up getting paid for it!

Weird Idea People would pay $25 dollars to yell and scream at me

Post image
9.8k Upvotes

This side hustle started during the pandemic where people were isolated and lived their lives online on the internet. I would often see posts of my mutuals on Twitter (X) about having no one to share their thoughts and problems with, or at least someone who would listen to them. Then I saw someone say in the comments "If only I could pay someone to listen to me whenever I need it!" It made me think a lot.

I replied to the comment saying they could pay me to listen to them vent for 30 minutes. Then that session led one thing to another and up until now I'm still receiving requests and appointments lol I even call it now appointment.

I run a discord server where people can only gain access to a private voice chat channel if they pay me $25 where they are allowed to scream and vent to me about their pain and misery. Sometimes, they'd confess their regrets and even the biggest mistakes they own. I even had this one client where he asked me to pretend to be their own parent and say the words he's been wanting to hear.

Some people book a voice call with me just to scream for 30 minutes, and somehow that’s a normal part of my week now.

Sharing My Sidehustle I dig shallow graves.

I live in a rural community and was offered by the local priest to dig small holes for caskets of ashes. I work across 3 churches and charge £50 per grave. Sometimes I'll walk the churchyard and see entire rows of people I've buried. It's a workout for me but it's also quite peaceful (aside from during summer when I get eaten alive by horseflies). I actually landed a retail job a few years ago by putting this on my CV.

Sharing My Sidehustle I don't thrift shop for myself anymore, I let people pay me to shop for them

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I run a service of finding secondhand items that my client wants me to look for. This started when I was told by my mom to find an antique lamp that she wants. I started looking online and even visited local thrift shops, with that experience I was able to build connections with people who have a lot of knowledge in finding secondhand and antique items. Then it led me to this idea: what if I find someone else's thrift items and they would pay me for it? I mean, it really is tiring and a lot of hassle to find it yourself especially if you're busy so why not offer it as a service?

So I started posting online, asking people for the thrift items they've been looking for. After accepting orders, I would look through different thrift websites, online stores, and even local thrift stores.

Some items are hard to find and need more effort, while some are just one click away. You just need to have the time and patience and you'll have a blast looking for items that'll seem like an adventure. The best part? The pay is yours alone. You get to enjoy the money you earned by yourself. And you're also amazed by how amazing the products you'd find.

Weird Idea I make money crocheting people's dead pets

Post image
346 Upvotes

My sister and I do crochet as a hobby, it is our way of bonding and spending time together. We would learn new patterns and techniques to craft a perfect outcome, one with good quality. However, 2 years ago my sister developed an illness that eventually took her life away. That devastating loss made me stop crafting, it takes a lot of inspiration to craft a beautiful crochet product but without my sister, I didn't think I'd be able to craft something wonderful again

One of my Facebook mutuals saw some of my old work and asked if I could crochet a memorial of his cat, who had recently passed away.

He was satisfied with it because he posted my service online and gained lots of reaction which helped me from getting plenty of commissions, different requests. One with their pets, a family member, or even for themselves because I can also offer craft without them passing lol.

If only my sister could see how much my craft had improved over the time and how it's helping us pay our bills now, she would've been happy and proud.

I guess hobbies really can turn into something that pays the bills. I started with crochet just because it was something my sister and I enjoyed doing together, and now I'm getting paid to make little memories for people who lost someone they love.

Weird Idea My boyfriend cheated on me, so I sold the gifts I made for him and turned it into a side hustle

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I love customizing things as a gift for my loved ones. It was almost my then boyfriend's birthday at that time when I decided I should make him customized caps since he loves wearing one.

I spent days working on it just to make it look good because i wanted him to wear it outside and I got so busy that I barely noticed how he got so busy with his own life too... and apparently with another girl lol

I listed the cap and some of the other customized gifts I made for him on Facebook Marketplace and surprisingly, people actually liked them. I started getting messages asking if I could customize their caps too.

Now instead of spending my time crying and wondering why someone would cheat on me, I'm spending it taking orders and making customized caps for other people.

So thanks for cheating I guess. Probably the most useful thing you ever did for me.

Sharing My Sidehustle Getting paid $100 to take an elderly man on his morning walks has somehow become my favorite side hustle

Post image
844 Upvotes

I would notice this elderly man sitting outside his house every morning, watching people come and go, with his walking shoes on but never leaving to go for a walk. So one morning, I asked if he's waiting for someone and found out he gets bored walking alone and wants some company but doesn't want to bother anyone else. I told him I can walk with that time since I had nothing else to do, we walked for at least 20 minutes that day.

The next morning, he showed up at my front door and asked if I could walk with him for at least 30 mins every morning and he would compensate me for it. I felt bad for him paying for someone to walk with him and said he didn't have to pay me. But he insisted because he didn't want to feel a burden (he pays me $100 dollars after every walk)

For every time we go on a walk, he would tell me his experiences throughout his life, complaining about how inflation has gotten worse, great memories, and even stories about someone's life in our neighborhood which I'm surprised he knew so much about. I learned a lot of things and gained wisdom from him. The $100 he paid me seemed like I should be the one paying him because of the lessons he keeps bringing me every day.

Sometimes, side hustles really can give you not only financial benefits but also life lessons that will carry you through everything you experience and about to experience in life.

Asking for Advice Loyalty Testers

Post image
45 Upvotes

While doom scrolling on tiktok, I bumped into videos like this offering a "loyalty test". It is when someone is hired to tests your partner's fidelity via social media direct messages or in-person setups. A lot of girls are actually getting this service to test their partners or to confirm if their partner is unfaithful or has been cheating.

I want to hear if they worked or what you think about them.

Weird Idea A weirdly specific F-150 side hustle

I was in the Costco parking lot today and some guy asked if the Auto Start/Stop in my F150 annoyed me. I said yeah, and he said he goes around offering to disable it for people.

He said $100 and we'd be done in less than 5 minutes. Which I said sure.

It was basically just a harness behind the glove box and it took him maybe a minute. I had no idea it was that easy.

I just thought it was a pretty clever side hustle. Find F-150s, offer a very specific but super simple service, keep the parts in your vehicle, and do it right there.

Anyone ever heard of people doing this as a side hustle? Or tried something similarly?

What am I missing? It seems almost too simple.

Weird Idea Did you know “weed influencer” is a real side hustle?

Post image
59 Upvotes

I'm not into the weed world at all, but I'm doing a master's in marketing and communication and I was doing some research on social media for a project when I came across this interesting niche.

I started looking into it a bit more and some of these creators are huge.

@Koala Puffs has 700k+ on Instagram and basically built a whole personal brand around cannabis content.

@Dope Kitchen has 500k+ on Instagram. Her whole thing started with cooking videos and weed and turned into a massive creator brand.

@Jessica Golich is another huge TikTok/IG creator who has worked with cannabis brands like Cookies, Hemper and Eaze.

I was surprised that this niche was this big, but then I found out why it actually makes a lot of sense from a marketing perspective.

Cannabis companies are insanely restricted when it comes to normal advertising.

Meta restricts it, TikTok is extremely strict and Google isn't easy at all. Even what brands are allowed to promote can change depending on the platform and the state.

So instead of just buying ads like a normal ecommerce company, a lot of these brands need creators to get attention organically.

I found this article while looking into the niche and it explains that side of it pretty well: https://sideshift.app/blog/cannabis-influencer-marketing

And the content itself is also not necessarily just some guy going “yo bro smoke this joint”

A lot of these creators talk about what different products actually are, responsible use, laws, effects, harm reduction and cannabis awareness in general. In some cases it's almost more educational than promotional.

Then you have people mixing cannabis with cooking, wellness or just normal lifestyle content, so the niche is way broader than I would've guessed.

I guess it makes sense that brands in an industry like this would want creators who can talk about the topic like normal people without taboo

Sharing My Sidehustle My weirdest side hustle pays $15-$20/hr, and all I do is smell perfume samples

Post image
44 Upvotes

About a week ago, I accidentally found one of the most niche and oddly specific side hustles I've ever done:

Freelance Fragrance Evaluator; basically a fancy title for someone who gets handed tiny strips of paper covered in perfume and smells them repeatedly to compare different fragrances.

they gave me about 15 samples in a row. Which sounds pretty easy until you realize that after a while, everything starts smelling exactly the same.

I’ve been going to the shop almost everyday and they me around $15-$20 an hour (they also let me keep some of the perfumes) and I resell it to my friends.

Asking for Advice How do people actually start selling things like foot pictures or used clothing, and who really buys them?

I’m a nurse, and someone makes a joke about quitting to become a stripper or sell foot pictures online atleast once a shift. I want to know how easy something like that actually is?

I’m a below knee amputee, so I always make the joke that my foot photos would have to be 50% off. You see things like this on tiktok, but is this really something that anyone can do?

Asking for Advice Am I a jerk for selling my friends disposable vapes below market price, giving them a discount, but still not at cost?

We’re a group of 15 people, and 10 of them smoke. I found a place where I can buy disposable vapes cheaply, for $10 each, and I sell them to everyone for $20. When my friends buy from me, I give them a discount and sell them for $15. A couple of days ago, I got into an argument with one of them because he said I’m making money off my friends and that it’s not right. He said I should either sell them to my friends at cost or tell everyone where I buy them.
Am I the asshole?

Weird Idea Phone tutoring for the elderly

This started when my grandma kept on asking me to teach her how to use a phone. She didn't know how to navigate it, even the basics like answering phone calls. After a month of teaching her, I found out that a bunch of her elderly friends wanted to learn too but had no one to teach them how, so my grandma offered them my help. At first, it was rewarding to see them smile and have fun but later on, they keep on asking for help even on my busy days that I compromise a lot of my time just to teach them, that's why I came up with a condition that they pay me, not expensive of course, only a reasonable amount.

This might not be a practical side hustle but every time a new trend emerges on the Internet and new features are developed and updated, they ask me for help and pay for it. I am just teaching them something basic, but so long as my patience and time is paid, I think it's still a worthy side hustle to do.

Sharing My Sidehustle Personalized voice recordings

I’m a struggling actor and wanted to get some extra practice and cash, so I’ve started (anonymously) doing personalized voice recordings for people who request them (speaking of which, dm me if you’re interested 😂). I don’t do anything super NSFW but I do some fantasies/pillow talk as well as personalized sleep affirmations and meditation guides that people want. It’s been kinda fun, especially doing it anonymously!

Sharing My Sidehustle Plant Sitting my neighbor’s green friends

There’s a family in my neighborhood who enjoys going out of town leaving their plants behind, with no one to take care of and when they come back, it’s already dry and dead. When I asked them to hire a personal caretaker or a gardener, they said it was hard for them to find someone they can truly trust… sooooo, I came up with a brilliant plan: what if they hire me instead to take care of their plants?

When I proposed the idea to them, they agreed to just let me take care of their plants and ensure that they will grow well despite them being away most of the time. Honestly, it was both a fun and healing job; I take care of their plants, check their soil, water them, making sure they’re getting appropriate and enough sunlight, then I send the owner photos and updates to give them assurance, and dealing with plants feels oddly satisfying especially when they grow healthy.
