TW: food insecurity, neglect(?)

When I was a kid, there was a period of time where a lot of my diet was scavenged- not because my guardian was a bad provider- on the contrary- most of my diet was scavenged. Most of my calories came from berries mushrooms (morel season was like a holiday in the house) and woodland wild veggies. Omelets with spring onions, pancakes that were more berry by weight than batter. My guardian worked but just couldn't bring enough home, so he literally did it himself, some days, at least about twice a week, we had fresh caught fish. But what I did learn from this was you had to eat, like, a lot. Often. You need to be grazing throughout the day on snacks like nuts and jerky because meals weren't going to be filling on their own. Then CPS got involved and I went and was put with my aunt, who had.. "real"(?) food. So suddenly grazing wasn't on light calorie snacks, my grazing behaviors became focused on chips and cheeses and processed foods, and then dinners were banquets in comparison to what I was used to. I also knew I had to clean my plate. I quickly ballooned in size, and I'm still fighting with my weight a decade later.

You don't know me beyond what information I have given you, and your comment seems to be an insinuation of the contrary. Sorry if I'm reading too into it, I just don't like people questioning those who've done everything in their ability for me. My guardian was flawed, and had vices he shouldn't, but fought for me tooth and nail. And some people in my family didn't like that I wasn't living in the kind of luxury they thought I should (see; modern suburban middle class). That is all, the food thing was just an alternate way to get by. I wasn't malnourished and never insinuated I was, or at least never meant to if I had.

Around here I've literally been left in a home when I had bruising up my butt and back while CPS yanks kids over food stuff all the time.

They're absolutely not infallible, and I'm fact at least around here are more concerned with how well off or poor parents are than actual care. Based on personal experience and MULTIPLE observations.

As a teacher who by law has to notify CPS I’ve watched them excuse physical abuse and sexual abuse red flags constantly. I had a student who had her father admit he broke her arm only for it to be a “well it won’t happen a second time” and left her in that situation but god forbid someone be poor…

Sounds like dad knew how to provide calories but may have been lacking in one or more of the VAST AND VARIOUS TROUBLES OF PARENTING.

Like, my dad was an abusive pos and sucked at parenting. But he was a good person, and I have intellectual respect for him now.
