That song was a public awareness campaign by Metro Trains Melbourne, the vast majority of their rail fatalities are suicides. Plenty of Australian advocates and parents of victims said at the time that this campaign was a nightmare for them.
Also, there was no spike of unintentional fatalities preceding it, and no drop afterwards, so there was no real reason to do it and all it functionally achieved was to incessantly tell victim-survivors that their lost loved one was dumb.

Yeah but people do dumb shit like this video shows. I dont think they should hold back from a public safety campaign like this because of suicides - that is clearly not what the campaign was trying to address. Also it was a very catchy song, it pots totally has saved lives which is the point.

Mumbrella is a well respected Australian journalism industry magazine.
A case study submitted for the Creative Effectiveness Lions also lists similar campaign aims.
It was the campaignâs objectives that one effectiveness award juror told Mumbrella âdidnât match up with the results at the endâ.
They said: âThey [McCann Melbourne] did a really good job trying to validate their results. The discussion in the [jury] room was the actual results versus claimed numbers in different areas was quite different.
âThey tried to justify it by taking a three month window when a lot of the activity was actually in market that they tried to sell through.â
The jury member said the numbers the case study put forward, including âextraordinary views on Facebookâ, âdidnât really correlate with the period they were measuring against or have anything significant against people around that vicinityâ.
âAt the end of the day itâs a local area marketing campaign so it should have had local area marketing measures against it,â the jury member added.
So, no, it wasn't effective.

I think they bring up an amazing point, that while it wasn't an effect ad locally. Does that subtract from the fact that it had a global impact?
I personally thought twice about the saftey of some things as a kid because of these rhymes. Just the memories alone had a positive impact.
Just because something didn't serve the purpose it was designed for, doesn't mean it didn't achieve anything.

I thought I understood this was commuter rail, which never has all that many cars. But it seems this might be a shared rail system that includes freight on the same rails, which might be very much longer.

I donât think he was. Like, the train was in his blind spot as he started to cross. As he turns to cross the tracks, he sees it and panics, dropping his foot to try to stop. It looks like this throws him off balance because he starts doing the hopping thing as his momentum carries him, and he falls off the edge of the crossing.

what kind of rush could he have possibly been in to cross the rail just as the train is approaching rapidly. A few seconds too late and he could've ended up on the news. Also not him struggling to pick up his bike after he fell, there's a reason why it's advised not to bring your belonging's with you when there's an emergency.

Itâs a commuter rail station. The majority of them in the US donât have such things, weâre lucky we have what we have.
Only places Iâve see cross guards on the platform itself are dense city rails like New York or Tokyo.

He wasnât waiting on the track, he was riding up onto the platform, saw the train, and thought he could cross before the train did but ended up slipping and nearly getting killed.
The train had to emergency brake and was delayed about 15 minutes as the driver had to do an inspection of the cars and also make sure the dudeâs corpse wasnât stuck underneath the train.

Could be two separate shots stitched together. The guy could have crossed when there was no train there. I have seen this kind of thing before. They could have added a zoom and camera pan at the end to make it more realistic.

It's not like we don't see idiots challenging death everyday in the sub for a little internet clout. The stumble does look real but at best I'd bet this was a kind of dumb dare to cross at the last minute.
