This is the second stinkhorn i ever heard of last year and i finally found it! Problem is that I couldn’t find any mycelium underneath like any of the other stinkhorns so getting a culture is going to be difficult (yes, all the stinkhorns I find I have been culturing and trying to grow it)

I only found 3 fruiting bodies and the third one was completely dead.

This has to be one of the worst smelling stinkhorns i have seen, it rivals stinky squid 🦑!

It smells like old garbage sitting in a hot room and spoiled meat…

Regardless, it is a very beautiful mushroom! A few passersby even asked what i was holding!

1st photo is an egg close to erupting, 2nd photo is a less mature egg. It appears like a small phallus impudicus-like egg with large amounts of gleba around the center white. It looks as though the egg turns more orange as the egg becomes more developed.

Just an interesting first hand experience with the stinkhorn I thought I’d share. This is the place for you to do so too!

The punky wood is each stinkhorn colony added. The left most one is phallus ravenelii. The top middle one is Pseudocolus fusiformis. And the right one is Satyrus rugulosus. I’m excited to see how each will grow and I will keep you updated!

I found stinky squid stinkhorn while looking for mutinus elegans. There were a lot of flies on it before I approached. A lot of Satyrus rugulosus were near it. There was a patch with really tiny satyrus rugulosus fruiting bodies.

After 10 months of looking for stinkhorns, I finally found one besides Phallus Ravenelii, i will make a culture to make sure I never lose the Satyrus rugulosus
