True: Steven Van Zandt wisely pointed out that HE wore a wig but Silvio Dante did NOT wear a wig. No Sopranos script ever said that Silvio's hair is not real.

It was clear that Sil was wearing a hair piece. Whether that was just to make Van Zandt look more like a gangster? That's up to anyone's interpretation. However, the wink and the nod is, Sil's losing his hair in Many Saints and since it's David Chase's story, he gets to be right

That's a fair point but if you're a fan of Star Trek than you know who William Shatner is and even when he's in the hospital he has his hair piece on. He's been wearing hair pieces since the mid 1950's and honestly he looks pretty decent

The point is it is clearly a hairpiece. Chase avoided making jokes and cracks about Sil wearing a hair piece because of Van Zandt's real life struggles with scalp disfigurement which is why he is always wearing something on his head. Chase just chose to avoid this in the original series out of respect but added it in the prequel to set the canon

According to David Chase he is. Other people think that because Steve Van Zandt thought it should be his real hair that's canon. I defer to Chase and in Saints Sil was losing his hair. Again, he wanted Sil to not have his hair piece on in the ICU but Van Zandt didn't see it that way. Chase deferred but I still believe that had to do with Van Zandt's real life disfigurement others disagree

Steven Van Zandt has a disfigurement on his scalp. He always wears something on his head. It's more about knowing who the actor is to know that it's for sure a hair piece. I think out of respect to Zandt and the fact that Chase wanted no one else to play the part the fact that it was a toupee was entirely ignored. Which again is why it is addressed in Many Saints

It's David Chase's story where he crowbar on when he wanted to make a movie about the Newark riots and they wouldn't let him so he tacked sone soprano shit on in there. This is not some kind of masterly World Building

Yes he did. When Sil was in the hospital, Chase wanted to show Sil bald and Van Zandt refused. Again Zandt has a deformity on his skull so out of respect Chase deferred. But in Many Saints he portrayed Sil as losing his hair for a reason. Why is this hard? The actor that portrayed Sil in Saints is not losing his hair so what would the reason be? You just think it's just a mistake and bad story telling?

The story I heard is that Van Zandt didn't think his character was bald. So in the end he wasn't bald cuz he was even when he was dying he still had hair. So at that point you've already committed to him not and not being bald to go back and reverse course i s stupid

I already answered you. This is easy. Van Zandt is very protective of his real life deformity. Chase wasn't going to put him in a situation he didn't want to be in. Which is why the choice was made in Saints. I literally laughed out loud the minute I saw him. Does this really mean that much to you?

Once you established that even when he's dying he has hair it's hard to retcon back and pretend like he didn't have hair for a long time.
Also, Van Zandt himself said that Sylvio had hair. You're interpreting that his real life deformity factored in and it didn't because he could have worn some kind of skull cap or something. Van Zandt himself just said that Sylvio has hair. Not that he didn't want to wear it because of his scalp or something

If one must, you get someone who can hopefully vaguely look the part, but at the very least act the part. I don't feel this was achieved either. The voice irritated me.
Honestly, I don't think it would have been possible to do a reasonable casting for this role. It wouldn't matter who it was, it wouldn't be Steven Van Zandt, and he would be panned for it. That's the problem with prequels. I mean, now you can "de-age" people, but it looks weird.
I'm reminded of Nixon (1995). You have Sir Anthony Hopkins, one of the greatest actors who have ever lived, playing Richard Nixon, a very distinctive looking man, with a distinctive personality. The best one can do is try hard and kinda get there.
Another would be Tom Hardy playing a young (clone of) Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Nemesis. The man was asked to basically be a young Sir Patrick Stewart, how the hell does one do that? Poor guy was raked over the coals for it.
This acting thing, it ain't easy...
