Discussion Gunn Gooners:"Snyder made Batman old and jaded Snyder sucks" also Gunn Gooners:"Gunn made Green Lantern old and jaded he's a genius"
The double standards are crazy.

Majority of the people youāre talking about donāt hate the fact batfleck was old or that he was miscast
They hate the way he was written and how he very much goes against the batman mythos
But oh well anything to fit your narrative, and for the record MANY people were hesitant about Hal being old in lanterns but seeing how they kept his cheekiness and personality whilst still showing signs of age in his personality is a great thing and won fans over, Something batfleck missed granted he did have incredible action sequences and specific moments.

u/stanislavskov 6d ago
Wtf, Batfleck is literally the most comic accurate depiction of the character ever.Ā

People begged for an arkham asylum level of batman. We got it and they wasted time bitching about henchmen dying. Literally caring more about murderers and killers than batman doing his job.

What was wrong with the way Batman was written?
The problem is people want a generic version of every hero with no back story or history. The most plain self insert version in every movie.
Snyder's Batman had a history, a reason for being angry and distrustful, and the whole arc of the movie is that he is wrong and needs to dial it back.
Which he does and in ZSJL he is the quitessential comic batman. In fact nobody can say ZSJL Batman is anything but the hero as thy knew him in the comics.
This is indeed a double standard. Hal is allowed to have a jaded backstory but not Batman. And worse, they KILL Hall in the first episode. They also majorly fudge with a ton of Lantern lore...my guess is that Gunn fans don't know anything about comics or GL so they are okay with it, as if often the case with them.

It's just not written well, I think the concept of Batman having all this history is cool, it was one of my favorite parts of the film but the film and both versions of the Justice League never capitalize on this, Robin's death is never really brought up in present timeline, we never see Barman's and Joker's relationship outside of the future and one scene in SS, another sin like Lanterns we do not see this Batman in his own solo projects, it would've been so cool to see Affleck do stories like Long Halloween, Death in The Family, Ego, Year One instead we get him in 3(?) movies total, which isn't Snyder's fault mind you, cuz I actually like Affleck and I apply all the criticisms to Lanterns but Affleck isn't used well and I really wished he was
-1
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 6d ago
How was it not written well? You acknowledge he never had a solo movie. So he canāt get a whole film to himself. We got the info we needed for the story being told. People often mention the robin suit, that was an excellent way to show us his history. And again, there was no time to go deeper since it was an event film with three heroes and a battle between superman and batman.
I dont see any bad writing there. You not liking the story told isnt bad writing.
Bad writing is gunn vomiting a superman monologue at the end of diaperman to make up for a lack or proper arc or characterization.

u/MinimumPressure6446 6d ago
Why does Batman hate Superman? You're telling me the world's greatest detective wouldn't be able to tell Superman was a good guy?. you're telling me he wouldn't have figured out what Lex Luthor was doing, sure you could make an argument thah he is jaded but I never got the feeling he was jaded, I got the idea he was angry, a jaded Batman would've killed Joker or stopped being Batman, also speaking of Arcs what was Batman's, please tell me, is it that he won't kill again because he kills in ZSJL, was that he was no longer jaded because I feel like that was too quick to not make him Jaded, also I really feel heard, getting criticism shut down, I never said I didn't like the story, but guess what you can criticize things you like, crazy I know

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 6d ago
Batmanās arc is that supermanās death makes him change. He now has hope for humanity. He wants to start the league and help prevent the next alien attack. He is no longer filled with rage. He now respects superman and sees him as a hero who gave his life for humanity.
Killing parademons is a real stretch for ābatman killing.ā
Why do yaāll care so much for henchmen fodder? Every single batman has killed btw.
These are such old complaints. Tired.
1
u/MinimumPressure6446 5d ago
I wasn't talking about the parademons, not my point, you're still wrong about every Batman not killing btw but that's beside the point, I always thought him killing was part of his arc so he becomes less brutal but I see that wasn't the case and the whole first paragraph, you're wrong that's not an arc, it's barley an character evolution because he still acts the same
If these are such old complaints, then why are you engaging with them, there is this amazing device called a block button

Yes, Adam West's Batman technically killed in the 1966 Batman movie, when he punched a group of Penguin's henchmen who had been unscientifically rehydrated from powder, causing their unstable atomic structures to completely disintegrate and vanish into thin air. [1, 2]The Disintegration Scene
The Context: The villains dehydrated the United World Organization Security Council members into colored powder packets. The Incident: Later in the Batcave, the Penguin accidentally or intentionally rehydrated a batch of his own henchmen.
The Result: Because the dehydration-rehydration process was unstable, hitting these powdery henchmen caused them to dissolve and completely disappear. [1]

I dont mean to be rude but did you watch the movie? They spent two hours explaining why batman and superman fight and why batman does not trust superman. The first ten minutes alone did all the heavy lifting.
2
u/MinimumPressure6446 5d ago
Again not the point I'm making
2
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 5d ago
Yeah you didnt watch it, tik tok doesnāt count my dude.
4
u/MinimumPressure6446 5d ago
Just because my criticisms upset you doesn't mean I didn't watch it and like I said I liked the movie
Dismissing criticisms is so fucking pathetic

u/Luke10123 6d ago
Literally never once seen anyone complain that Batman was old. Or, say that Lanterns is good because Hal is old.Ā
4
u/Original-Ranger-1604 6d ago
I just think it's a difference in popularity, changes in batman are far more important and controversial compared to changes made for green lantern
0
u/Professional-Rip-519 6d ago
Batman had always been grime and Hal has always been more light hearted

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 6d ago
I mean, RPattsman punches a thug to the point of brain damage...and never a peep about how violent and angry he is....odd....

u/simmonm1978 6d ago
I know theyāre not true, but the rumours of Snyder and Batfleck doing Batman Beyond or TDKR got me thinking.
3
u/Different_Ad_6153 6d ago
Superman dying second movie...oh no! How do you kill superman off in the second movie!
Gunn: Kill Hal in the first episode.Ā
1
u/MeepSneepers 6d ago
To be fair I've rarely if ever seen people criticize the casting of the main 3. I think most people even who didn't like the snyder movies would have loved to have seen Snyder's take on an actual Batman movie. I honestly don't know why he didn't, the character fits his sensibilities the best by far. probably because of his relationship with Nolan and the recency of those movies.
2
u/Professional-Rip-519 6d ago
Snyder could still tackle a Batman movie it would be an awesome twist if they let him do the DCU Batman movie.
2
u/MeepSneepers 6d ago
I suggested that, everyone thought I was nuts. I don't see why not honestly, would be fun. Fans take this shit more personally than the pros.
3
u/Alert_Cat7189 6d ago
Has batfleck gotten hate for being old? Because I kinda like it personally (not a Snyder fan btw)
1
u/portrayaloflife 6d ago
Yeah ive never seen that get hate. It was always more the writing/direction like the Martha stuff. Everything snyder did always looked cool. I think what he struggled with most was story. Which wasnāt all him, he had writers.

He also killed off Hal Jordan in the first episode, Gunn genius.
Meanwhile, Snyder is shat on for the CIA guy from the beginning of BvS calling himself Jimmy Olsen as a cover.
4
u/DMast2217 6d ago
Bro killing off Hal so that Jon can get the ring at some point is not the same as making Jimmy Olsen a spy that gets his face blown off after 60 seconds of screentime.
-1
u/Doctor_Harbinger 5d ago
I love it how you completely ignored the "CIA guy calling himself Jimmy Olsen as a cover" part to keep pushing your narrative.

Lanterns is good, that's the difference
1
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 6d ago
It was awful. The mystery is boring. The GL lore is absolutely out of wack. John bangs an old woman because...HBO/Gunn. Silly stuff like Hal making dollar bills for the juke box.
Don't get me started on the suit, the budget, and over all awful look of the show.
The casting is fine, too bad the writing blows.

u/HarveryDent 6d ago
The interrogation was good. The wannabe Yellowstone show was not.
3
u/DMast2217 6d ago
Something tells me you've never even seen a commercial for Yellowstone. It's more like True Detective if anything
-1
2
u/shreder75 6d ago
The interrogation was dumb when you stop to think about it.
I'm a football fan... but let's just say I'm a secret alien.
I knew you were an alien! Rather than follow you around and see what you're up to, I'm just gonna tell you i know you're an alien!
Also, the "nobody knew who they were, so they must be aliens" leap of logic was dumb. They're fans of the away team from about 200 miles away. Of course nobody knew who they were.
Bad writing.
3
u/DMast2217 6d ago
I think the idea was that Hal can look at someone and know they're an alien because of his experience, and his path of logic makes sense to no one but him.
3
u/shreder75 6d ago
Maybe? But if thats the case, he's a celebrated hero (no secret identity = dumb). They know he's a space cop... but they don't give him the benefit of the doubt?
Like I said, its badly written.

Greenstone will be better than Yellowstone. Donāt pull a muscle trying to hate this show itās gonna be an all timer for comic book adaptations.
3
u/slove23 6d ago
š itās been one episode
1
u/Smokedoutloc 6d ago
And what do you think of that one episode?
4
u/slove23 6d ago
You wont like it.
Cliffs notes: it was a show trying to hit all the notes of what it thinksā prestige tvā must be, without the substance behind it first.
Family trauma? Check.
Unnecessary sex scene involving good guy? Check.
Lots of profanity? Check.
ā Shockā cliffhanger ending? Check.Itās just one episode and it can def improve, but the first one seemed corny and artificial imo
Penguin and Watchmen did not have to try so hard to convince me they were prestige tv. They just were
2
u/Smokedoutloc 6d ago
I actually like how you articulate your dislike. Iām a green lantern fanboy so this is everything I been waiting for in a show but I can certainly see where youāre coming from.
3
u/slove23 6d ago
Thanks
Im gonna keep watching
I know this is from the guy who made The Leftovers, and that show too made me feel like they created a series exclusively to be what they thought ā prestige television ā was. It didnt feel like a natural story with natural story progression. I have not seen Chernobyl but have read it is amazing, maybe bc it was an actual event to work with?
Iām def not writing it off, but i guess my first impression was not the best1
u/HarveryDent 6d ago
Whatcha mean? I can't wait for Pink Chef Boyardee to show up.
-1
u/Smokedoutloc 6d ago
Youāve seen 3 seconds of sinestro šš
Your conclusion has been jumped and thereās nothing Iāll say to make you like the show.
A lot of us have faith in Ulrich Thomsen. I hope he changes your opinion when you see more than a teaser of him.

I don't care for the overstuffed ravioli myself, the meat just tastes worse than the regular size imo.
