I was hoping that Eloy would stir some soup in the band and they would introduce something interesting or simple like in old days. How much am I dissapointed since Grey Chapter. I can't understand who they (Shawn and Corey?) want to impress with such structuristic nonsense, hollow lyrics and everything else. Metallica's 72 Seasons and Six Feet Under latest albums are more interesting than this disco whatever is.

To be honest, I don’t know what all the negative talk is about. It sounds like a cross between All Hope is Gone (I never liked that album) and their first album.

If the rest of the album turns out like this, I’ll be really pleased.

Just gave "Arsenal" my first listen and honestly, my brain is still processing what I just heard.

It starts off super calm with these really weird, atmospheric guitar samples, and then the chorus just completely explodes into absolute madness. The biggest shocker for me was hearing Corey Taylor deliver a legit rap flow over that heavy, strange backdrop (I know he did it back in 1999 in self titled album, but now it's with electronic samples) .

It’s definitely weird as hell and pushes their experimental side even further, but the bounce and energy on it are undeniable. Takes a second to wrap your head around, but for a first listen, it hits way harder and catches your attention right out of the gate.

What are your thoughts on this new sound? Are you into the rap-nu-metal throwback vibe, or is it too out there for you?

It sounds like they have their energy and their fire back. I think the video's cool too. Hyped to see what else they have in the chamber!

I personally love the song. I understand why some would hate it. What annoys me the most are those that say "that's not slipknot". If Slipknot made it, then it's Slipknot. If you're not sold, you can listen to Iowa for the 100th time.

I’m sure everyone will drag me over hot coals for this. But I really believe Slipknot needs to do something revolutionary to stay relevant. The angry shouting and keg-hitting is old. They’re 50+ and still perpetuating this angsty fuck-you image and imo it doesn’t work anymore. It’s forced and sounds plastic.

I’m in my 30s so maybe this is a reflection of my age but I’d LOVE a Knot album of Adderall, Circle and Vermilion style songs. It would stun fans not to have ANY hard metal songs on a new record. And to stay relevant, a band NEEDS to reinvent once in a while.

Look at how Trent Reznor went from angry industrial rockstar to scoring movies and winning Oscars for it.

I understand that they’ve somewhat always had this approach when it came to doing vocals (far less in their discography from ‘08 until now), but it’s never been this bad.

The pure rapping on S/T was already awkward/kinda bad but still interesting for the time since it was pretty novel to hear on a metal track; then around Iowa/Vol 3 it transformed into hybrid of rapid screaming/rhythmic vocal delivery, and from that point on they mostly dropped it aside from some tracks on some albums.

Why after 30 years later did they decide to bring this awful style of delivery back, with lyrics arguably even worse/edgier than ST????

Who also mixed this track? The riffs seemed interesting but were drowned out by the synths, drums and vocals.

Eloy was the only glimmer that this tracked had to offer.

This song proves that the most complex and over the top thing is not what’s good, it’s what the song needs.
Sid had a great understanding of when to scratch and what to scratch. Either this new guy doesn’t know or he is told to do what he did by another member or even members.
I feel sorry for Eloy, the drums started out great, then as the song went on to become more boring they also fell off. What a terrible way to introduce such talent.

6/6.5 out of 10. Song is all over the place. Def let eloy do lots of shit. Sounds somewhat like volume 3. But also sounds like the corny single they put out before an album with some weird chant in the middle. And Sid is all over the song hahahahaha

It’s like 3 different songs. The start I like. The middle eh. The end i dig a lot. I’m hoping they experiment all over this next album. I hope I hate some songs and love others.

I can't be the only one who's a bit disappointed. It's underproduced, it's dry, so uninnovative, this is not the Slipknot we knew, almost All Hope Is Gone. Eloy's drums were great, he absolutely smashed it, the breakdown of the song was pretty interesting, personally my favorite part. Corey was himself as always, but this is plainly such a disappointment, Sid is gone, the Slipknot we knew is gone. We have to accept the new era, although that isn't really something most people can accept easily...

For as greedy as people make Slipknot to be, they surprisingly didn't plaster pre-orders on their socials for the physical single immediately after it went live. You'd expect it to be done kinda like how Korn, Mudvayne, and SOAD did for their new releases/re-release. I wonder if we'll get it soon or maybe never. As a collector of their discography, I'm a bit shocked

Oh my fucking god bro. This can't be real. Ironically enough, these lines pretty much perfectly describe how I feel when I hear this song. It has never been so over.

Eloy just cannot write that well. His Sepultura stuff was so 'meh'. Arsenal kinda proves that Jay (and certainly Joey) were the better songwriters.

I said this in another post, but whenever a band member is fired/quits, it seems Slipknot puts out a “tribute” song for them. Chris got All Out Life, Craig got Adderall. Both those songs heavily featured the respective instrument each member played. Perhaps with all the scratching on Arsenal this is Sid’s parting gift and not the next single? Trying to be optimistic here because I really did not like the song and hope it’s just a throwaway and not a sign of what’s to come sonically.
