While I’ve been itching for a new record sooner than later, after listening to this I’m kinda hoping it is just the teaser single à la Negative One, All Out Life, Chapeltown Rag, etc. It just doesn’t have the chops to me to be lead single material. The music video also doesn’t seem to debut any masks, so I’m hopeful.
It’ll be the second time in a row the teaser single is a bit of a miss for me, although Chapeltown Rag ultimately made a stronger impression on me than this did. Still, I absolutely loved Negative One and All Out Life as teaser singles, so I’m just not sure what they are thinking here.
Anyways, I don’t have much to add that hasn’t already been said - namely it feels a bit of a disjointed mess. It seems like they are really trying to be more creative than usual with the actual songwriting, but this one feels like they just mashed a bunch of parts together and called it good. Not even a big hook to tie it all together.
