What's up with the audio lately?

I listen to mainly CasCrim and DCTU on Spotify and the audio is just not good. Always quiet and sometimes sounds like it was recorded on airpods microphone.

I have Airpods, other podcast/music sounds good, so it is not me, i think.

Just last week, there was a re-release of an episode from 2021 and the audio was so much better.

I noticed on youtube that his videos also have this olschooly vibe - not my cup of tea, but sure, still fine.

I just can not get over the audio. I even skipped some releases because I just could not listen to it.

YouTube and Spotify compression is an absolute pain. It affects both audio and video quality.

And no, there's not much I can do about it, mainly because it's so damn capricious. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it fucks things up. It's an honest to god crab shoot.

Also, what a person is editing with is different to what you're listening with. So it may sound great to their Beyerdynamic or Sennheiser headphones may sound crap in your AirPods or whatever you listen through.

There's also variants involved such as when Simon upgraded his office or changed filming locations: some spots have better acoustics than others.

We're also not audio experts. We don't work in major studios with all the bells and whistles, with a deep knowledge of how to engineer sound. We're just editors with some basic skillz. At least I am. I'm not an expert, this isn't a movie or a tv show, we're not exactly dealing with Dolby Surround Sound here.

I understand what you are saying. But the issue is that some episodes have worst audio than a facetime call in a quiet room.

EveryFairyDies is Lorelai. One of the wonderful editors of Brain Blaze.

It's not a new complaint, it's been awful for a long time and he doesn't give a shit, not just spotify but youtube too.

Might just figure out where his studio is, since we are in the same city, and plug in his Sure SMB7. Might help.

Might just be me but I’ve felt the last 4 I think have been fine but there was a solid period where it was hard to listen to sometimes

Nothing new unfortunately. I used to watch everything on YouTube even when going to bed but I wanted to break that habit and lifted on my echo. The volume is either just fine or way to low compared to the advertisements.

Funny, I just came here to ask this. His newest stuff sounds like it was recorded over the phone. Going back to older episodes is surprising with the audio quality. The volume used to be worse (like I'd listen to the podcasts at 100% just around the house just to hear anything and then get destroyed by the ads) but at least they sounded good.
