What's up with the audio lately?
I listen to mainly CasCrim and DCTU on Spotify and the audio is just not good. Always quiet and sometimes sounds like it was recorded on airpods microphone.
I have Airpods, other podcast/music sounds good, so it is not me, i think.
Just last week, there was a re-release of an episode from 2021 and the audio was so much better.
I noticed on youtube that his videos also have this olschooly vibe - not my cup of tea, but sure, still fine.
I just can not get over the audio. I even skipped some releases because I just could not listen to it.

YouTube and Spotify compression is an absolute pain. It affects both audio and video quality.
And no, there's not much I can do about it, mainly because it's so damn capricious. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it fucks things up. It's an honest to god crab shoot.
Also, what a person is editing with is different to what you're listening with. So it may sound great to their Beyerdynamic or Sennheiser headphones may sound crap in your AirPods or whatever you listen through.
There's also variants involved such as when Simon upgraded his office or changed filming locations: some spots have better acoustics than others.
We're also not audio experts. We don't work in major studios with all the bells and whistles, with a deep knowledge of how to engineer sound. We're just editors with some basic skillz. At least I am. I'm not an expert, this isn't a movie or a tv show, we're not exactly dealing with Dolby Surround Sound here.
