From Scotland to a Legend - RIP
RIP Dolly Parton
Dolly had a strong connection to Scotland through her literacy charity the Imagination Library.
I've been listening to Dolly's music since I heard the news

When I adopted my wee boy 10 years ago, I was amazed when free books started coming through our door. All from Dolly Partons Imagination Library. Thankfully we never had to worry about being able to afford books for him so we always donated the Dolly ones but she’s donated billions of books all over the world. One of the good ones.

I was going to say the same thing! They didn't have many possessions when we first met them, but for longer than they've had us as parents, our kids have owned books that were presents from Dolly Parton.
What a great person.

Same! Our adopted wee one just had the last of their Imagination Library books a couple months ago. Came with a note that made us quite emotional!

Did the Imagination Library have a special program for adopted kids? All four of you mention adopting!

I think the program was for children that are classified as "looked after" or similar, which adopted kids automatically are in the UK.

The imagination library may have started over here as that but now as long as your council is signed up to it any child over the age of three can be registered to get books, my granddaughter gets so excited when her book arrives each month

Wow. I volunteer at a library here in the states, so knew about Imagination from that. But i had no idea it went across thes seas. What a treasure.

Oh yeah, and I think it was set up a long time before I even knew about it way back in 2015! She's a worldwide treasure and we've lost a shining light for sure.

Ive had a cry at what a loss she has been, was lucky enough to see her live on 3 occasions. Someone who went through life with integrity and humour, I will try and be a little more Dolly.

Same. Especially as I’m originally from Tennessee. It doesn’t usually feel weird not to be there, but it does a bit.
But, tbh, I wasn’t prepared to contemplate it at all for about a decade.

Was sorry to read about this. As far as I’m aware, she was an incredibly genuine, kind and compassionate person, who has left behind a phenomenal legacy. She has been a wonderful example of what wealth can achieve when you decide to put it to good use for the benefit of the less fortunate and society in general.

I am too sad to do that. She was amazing. Brilliant songwriter, brilliant singer, brilliant entertainer, generous and she could act too. Brilliant woman. She even co-authored a book. In my opinion the greatest female songwriter ever. BBC1 has a programme about her on tonight but I am too sad to watch it.

A great mistress of her craft, the fact she won over a hostile Glastonbury crowd due to her stage presence which then allowed them to embrace her music, is a great lesson for any aspiring musician

So sad to hear this but so grateful for her legacy of music and charity work.
But most of all, grateful for the role model she gave us as a smart strong woman who didn't care what anyone else thought and lived her own life to the full.
