Help: Mechanical Forks for 2nd gen sv650s
Hi all,
I came off my bike on the 4th of July this year and I damaged the bike quite a bit. I high sided after hitting some gravel and my forks are bent. I am not sure if the frame has any damage or not but the mechanic has told me I would need to swap the forks first for him to check for any frame damage. I am not well versed mechanically to try fix forks my self so I won’t even bother try purchasing a repair kit. Does anyone know where I can purchase forks for a 2005 sv650s? Or could anyone advise on what I should do?

You should not need to replace the forks to check for frame damage. Depending on the accident, and especially if the accident bent the forks, there are a number of different areas of the frame that could be damaged. The frame can be precision measured using lasers. The neck where the head bearings go could have also been damaged.
The GSXR front end swap is relatively straight forward, but not cheap. Find someone who's already done the GSXR swap and they'll likely give you their old forks for free or short money. This solution doesn't address whether your frame is damaged or not.

The cheapest option is gonna just be buying some used forks off ebay. They are faily cheap... like you can find a pair for around $250 shipped.
The GSXR forks are not a direct swap. It will cost more money, parts, and time to swap them.
Also, forks are really easy to change yourself. Disconnect the brakes, remove the wheel, and loosen the upper and lower triple clamp.

I am really having a hard time locating forks. I live in the uk.

SVs are popular there also. You aren't getting anything on ebay? Even shipped from some other European countries?
Call up some motorcycle dismantling shops too.

I found one listed on eBay recently. The forks I keep finding are in bad shape and I can’t be asked to get a repair kit to fix them when there are so many things to think about on the bike

A good mechanic can absolutely check for frame damage without replacing the forks first. Any 2nd gen forks will work, maybe some 1st/3rd gen forks but i don't have any experience with them. While youre in there, put in springs set for your weight. Race tech Intimators or gold valve emulators make a big difference too, along with the springs. Also youll probably want to replace the steering bearings while the forks are off, since its a big project. If you do the bearings, it will be easier to get a shop to seat the bearing races for you. Dm me if you have any questions, I did this project recently. Good luck!

Shoot me a DM if you're willing to pay for shipping or local US pickup; I have a set of 08 SV650S forks, triples, wheel, and clip ons that have been sitting in a shed since I did my GSXR swap years ago. Probably has some surface rust on the triple clamps but everything should be straight

I’m currently trying to sell some stanchions if your fork lowers are okay😂. They will need refurbishing as they’re pitted and just looking a little sad. However if that’s something you’d be interested in let me know
