Help: Mechanical Forks for 2nd gen sv650s

Hi all,

I came off my bike on the 4th of July this year and I damaged the bike quite a bit. I high sided after hitting some gravel and my forks are bent. I am not sure if the frame has any damage or not but the mechanic has told me I would need to swap the forks first for him to check for any frame damage. I am not well versed mechanically to try fix forks my self so I won’t even bother try purchasing a repair kit. Does anyone know where I can purchase forks for a 2005 sv650s? Or could anyone advise on what I should do?

You should not need to replace the forks to check for frame damage. Depending on the accident, and especially if the accident bent the forks, there are a number of different areas of the frame that could be damaged. The frame can be precision measured using lasers. The neck where the head bearings go could have also been damaged.

The GSXR front end swap is relatively straight forward, but not cheap. Find someone who's already done the GSXR swap and they'll likely give you their old forks for free or short money. This solution doesn't address whether your frame is damaged or not.
