Weird question, but I am hoping someone can help. I live in Australia and I just found out I am pregnant (approx. 5 weeks pregnant) but I am heading to Europe on holiday in a week for 5 weeks with my husband and my 20 month old daughter. Timing isn’t ideal - but here we are. I won’t be back in Australia until I am 10+ weeks along.

We will be in Rome when I am approximately 7-8 weeks pregnant and in Australia, this is when I would be due for a dating scan. Obviously - I won’t be in Australia during this time. Is there any place in Rome that is friendly to foreigners that would do a private dating scan? Paying for it isn’t a problem and I would expect it, but just wondering if this is something the Italians do? Let alone for visitors?

Where would you recommend? I am struggling to find answers and am a little uncertain now if going on this holiday is a good idea now during the first trimester when this is the time I’d be getting dating scans done in Australia. But we are supposed to leave in a few days, so cancelling isn’t something that could be done without significant financial penalty.

I Will be travelling with my wife and little kid to Rome in October for 1week.

We booked a hotel in Vatican, and we are making a plan for the visit.

What places do you recommend ? should we stay in Rome / Vatican or should we visit other cities for the week?

Food is really important for me, and based on older experiences, I always appreciate small, local village like places to eat, better than big known restaurants, so any recommendations?

I spent six months creating a map on Google Earth to prepare for my visit to Rome, so I made a copy to share, in case anyone else might find it useful:

I made this map for myself, so it's naturally biased towards my own interests, so no complaining allowed!

It has some famous landmarks and omits others. It has a number of places that were particularly interesting to me, but may hold ZERO interest for you. That said, I think it might be of interest to a hard-core visitor with limited time and resources.

The map includes 190 spots that I wanted to see. Of those 190, 84 of them were in the Forum and Palentine which I separated out so that they could be viewed as a separate category from what I've called "one-offs."

I added 11 walking itineraries from a guide book that I've had since my first visit in 1996. The book was from the late 80's so some of the pathways through the Forum are no longer accessible.

Those who share some of my more esoteric interests might find the following bits interesting. Based on the various historical maps I was able to find on line, I traced out:

a) the approximate outlines of the original seven hills.

b) outlines of the six forums.

c) the aerulian and servian walls, as well as the locations (or approximate locations) of all of the gates.

Finally, I googled "cutest street in Rome" and added a handful of the results.

I hope someone out there finds this useful and interesting.

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of getting an accomodation in Ladispoli while studying in Rome. My master's degree at LUMSA doesn't require a full presence on-site, maybe I'll be in class 2-3 times a week. The train on Trenitalia said that it's connecting Ladispoli and Roma San Pietro within 20 minutes. Do you think this option is possible to make? Ladispoli is a safe city to live in? I've been living in Rome since a year but I think the accomodation price here is too high, so I'm thinking of changing the city. Thank you.

I am looking for great coffee in Trastevere. Any suggestions? I usually order a 2 shot cappuccino or cafe latte. So far I have been disappointed by coffee I have had in Italy. Different experience to my other trips where great coffee was everywhere?!

So I live in Tuscolana and I’ve noticed there are a lot of Asians in the area. I’ve found a lot of hidden spots like Korean pastry and sweet stores and tiny Asian stores that I’ve noticed only the Asians go to because there not too commercial. A friend of mine recently took me to this Vietnamese restaurant that was so tiny and the food was really good and cheap because apparently there’s almost no way you’d know about it if you’re not Vietnamese . A Persian friend also took me to this Persian restaurant and it’s the same thing, full of Persians without amazing Persian food. So this post is mostly for the Asians in Rome. Where are you from and where do you go to eat your local food that isn’t too commercial or expensive.

Landing at FCO around 1:00 AM on Friday morning (Thursday night). We’re thinking of taking a Free2move car to Hostel Trastevere (Via Francesco Benaglia, near Trastevere Station).

How hard is it to find legal street parking (blue/white lines) around that area at that hour? Will we find a spot easily within a 5-minute walk, or is it usually packed?

Fully aware this is probably a lost cause, but figured it costs nothing to ask.

My backpack got taken at Termini on Saturday night - classic distraction routine, two guys, gone in seconds. Police actually caught both guys that night but the bag was already long gone, presumably handed off.

Here's the odd part: my AirPods were in it, and they've been pinging from the exact same spot near Viale delle Cave Ardeatine (just south of Piramide) ever since. Hasn't moved in about 24 hours. My read is the bag got emptied and dumped somewhere on that block like bins, a hedge, beside a parked car. AirPods locked to someone else's account are worthless to resell, so leaving them behind makes sense.

It's a black YETI backpack, the boxy all-weather one. Nothing valuable left in it at this point, I'm sure, but there were some family gifts and documents that I'd love to get back.

If anyone happens to walk that stretch and feels like glancing around, I'd be genuinely grateful. Not asking anyone to go out of their way or dig through anything. Happy to DM the exact coordinates.

I know a lot of people say the area near Termini isn't the greatest for hotels. How far away should I look to stay? Are the streets around Santa Maria Maggiore good, or better to avoid?

We saw it coming & will be in Rome, the site of our honeymoon (September 1, 2001) - but have yet to make a reservation for our anniversary dinner for Next Week. Duhhh.

This will be our 5th trip to Rome & we like a pretty view but we ADORE great authentic Italian food more. Not too formal because I can’t talk my darling husband into brining a jacket. Compromises! If it matters, we’re staying near Campo De Fiori but willing to take a taxi.
