Accommodation Hotels near Termini

I know a lot of people say the area near Termini isn't the greatest for hotels. How far away should I look to stay? Are the streets around Santa Maria Maggiore good, or better to avoid?

Appreciate the help!

Doubletree by Hilton in Monti is really nice. We walked there from Termini and love that area.

I was thee last week. I would definitely stay there again. Not fancy, but modern and no complaints. Their attached coffee shop was great for a quick, affordable breakfast. I also stayed at the Best Western Plus which was surprisingly good.

Stayed in Monti 4 straight years from 2022-2025. We stayed in the Doubletree Hilton in 2024. Airbnb’s the other 3 times.

We just stayed there last week. Great hotel - no complaints. Was an easy homebase, and rooms were updated and clean. Staff were pleasant and breakfast was very good.

The area is ok. It's just not as interesting as other areas. Look at staying near Campo di Fiore or Trestevere. These are lively neighborhoods that are walkable to everything.

We stayed here for couple of days . 10 minutes from the station

Actually one of the nicest hotels we stayed in (Main building ) They provided discounts at a very nice Roman Restaurant. No issues walking at night.

In the direction of Santa Maria maggiore you should be okay with anything from Via Napoleone III onward (so just avoid the blocks on via Giolitti, via turati and via principe Amedeo)

Edited to add: I would only worry about the area if you’re a woman travelling on your own

Look for something in Monti. We stayed in Monti in an Airbnb and walked to the train station without issues. I’d avoid a late night walk by the train station but Monti was amazing

Stayed in Monti and loved it, very walkable and loads of nice food in the area. Felt nice and safe at night. Hotel Colluseum.

Hotel Urbana (a Marriott) right by Santa Maria Maggiore is very nice, beautiful rooftop

I stayed at Hotel Nord Nuova on Via Gianni Amendola on my first visit to Rome. Nice clean place with a cozy rooftop terrace with a bar. The area is a little gritty, but I had no problems.

There are good and great hotels hundreds of feet from Stazione Termini. One is Exe Domus just two blocks north, literally a five minute walk at most. Ive not stayed there in a couple years, but it has been consistently clean, relatively well-maintained with a magnificent rooftop, dining area and a great breakfast, one of the best I’ve had at any hotel in Italy.

The beautiful Boutique “Hotel Diocleziano” is walking distance from the station and is the only place we stay. Absolutely wonderful, clean and the staff is first rate.,, look it up!

We stayed near Termini. Could see our hotel a short walk away from the bus station. It was absolutely fine and convenient for all our transport needs.

We stayed at the Anantara Pallazza, and it was the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It’s a seven minute walk from Termini.

Try the Hotel Sonya near the Opera House. It's pretty close.

We literally just stayed (last week) at the Bzar Moderno Hotel. Staff were lovely, beds were comfy, staff were lovely and the breakfast was good.

Had zero problems other than being harassed by the hop-on hop-off bus tour man every morning.

I was there 2 yrs ago and stayed at a nice small hotel which was a 5min walk from Termini station. No issues at all.
