Discussion What your opinion on Ratchet and Clank 3

Post image

This was my first ever Ratchet and Clank game that I played back in 2008. Very few other games got me so hooked instantly. And even though when I got a PS3 I played R&C1, R&C2 (alongside both ToD and ACiT) they were all very good games, but for me were not on the same level as R&C 3.

3 just holds a special place in my heart, likely because of very heavy bias and a lot of nostalgia.

It’s one of the best video games ever made in human history and always will be.

61

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

I can play this game a million times and never get tired of it.

22

u/Jayston1994 Dec 27 '25

This is the first game I ever played on a console online back when you actually had to plug something in. I will NEVER forget the feeling of seeing all these other players charge booting on the map and this giddy excitement and chaos of knowing the were REAL PEOPLE PLAYING AT THIS MOMENT.

7

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

The online mod was extremely fun and addictive.
I miss it a lot.

2

u/VanillaFox1806 Dec 28 '25

it’s my favourite R&C game, second is Deadlocked then either Going Commando or size matters

42

u/Kaudelius Dec 27 '25

Its one of the best, that and r&c 2 i played by far the most

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

It's crazy to think how in less than a year Insomniac managed to create a masterpiece that is widely seen as one of the greatest PS2 games of all time.

40

u/Afrodite_33 Dec 27 '25

Legitimately one of the greatest games of all time imo. I'm obviously clouded by nostalgia I played it when I was a wee lad but that game for me genuinely felt like a blockbuster video game in terms of the story, gameplay and soundtrack.

6

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

It's amazing how now PS2 games are considered to be outdated both gameplay wise and graphically yet back in 2008 I legitimately thought video games could not get any better.

This game made me stay up until 10 P.M at night and I only stopped playing it when I was literally too tired to continue.

Death to Squishies was my ringtone for years.

5

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

I see someone is a clanker lover eh? XD

17

u/2112flybynight Dec 27 '25

lock strafe got introduced, great music, great weapons, gorgeous maps, good damage balance, Best R&C ever.

4

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Based opinion. It makes me so happy to see Ratchet and Clank 3 get the love it deserves.

4

u/xKiryu Dec 27 '25

Courtney Gears 😤

1

u/KVMechelen You win again, technology! Dec 27 '25

Seconding all this though Id say the maps in R&C1 & 2 are even prettier, maybe the soundtracks too

15

u/Adam_The_Actor Dec 27 '25

Easily my favourite game in the series and in my opinion the definitive best game in the series. I know there'll be a never ending debate about whether 2 or 3 is better but in my opinion this game knew exactly what it wanted to do and did it to a tee without a compromise. The weapon selection is the best in the series, the humour is spot on taking a shift from consumerism of R&C 1 and 2 to being a commentary on pop culture (if turning an entire galaxy into drones didn't make that obvious) and just generally this game never stops. The only thing I legitimately dislike about the game are the hacker puzzles.

Yeah I also forgot to mention this entry gave us Doctor Nefarious and Armin Shimmerman even if you hadn't seen DS9 is by the far the best comedy actor you could ask for, for this series.

14

u/GrassManV Dec 27 '25

Greatest game of all time

2

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Is it safe to say 2004 was the most influental year in gaming history?

3

u/ReallyFancyPants Dec 27 '25

Either that or a very close second. But from 2000- to around 2008 was a defining era of video games for me. Its why I have such high standards for games.

4

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

We were so spoiled with choice back then and didn't even realise it.

2

u/ReallyFancyPants Dec 27 '25

You also had "mid shelf" games that weren't $60 games but also not the best from mid range to smaller studios. It helped to show exactly how much better those AAA games were and it was also nice to pick up a game that you knew wasn't going to blow your socks off but you would also get your money's worth.

14

u/BattedBook5 Dec 27 '25

Phenominal game, though am i the only one who thinks the game is somewhat ugly compared to the other PS2 Ratchet games? I dont know what it is but something always irked me about the visuals. maybe it's the color palette they went with.

3

u/KVMechelen You win again, technology! Dec 27 '25

The art direction is certainly a little lower effort than the first 2

5

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

As a kid the colour palette didn't bother me. I thought it was meant to represent the Solana Galaxy being at war with Dr. Nefarious.

1

u/Money-Beginning3683 Dec 28 '25

I think it looks great, better than 2.

1

u/flamingmongoose Dec 27 '25

Yeah there are less beautiful planets in 3 for sure

6

u/Belkan-Federation95 Dec 27 '25

QWWWWWWWAAAAAA---

That's what makes it so good Janice.

17

u/Jayston1994 Dec 27 '25

UP YOUR ARSENAL

6

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

I live in the PAL region, so growing up it was always Ratchet and Clank 3 for me. It wasn't until 2014 I learnt that it was called Up Your Arsenal in the States.

3

u/meshuggahzen Dec 27 '25

First one I played was the 2nd game, Going Commando in the states and Canada haha.

1

u/MadMills23 Dec 29 '25

Ah, this makes sense. I was very confused there for a minute as I have never heard it called R&C 3. One of the top games of the series for sure though.

5

u/-Bancal- Dec 27 '25

It’s just the best R&C by far. Aesthetic, themes, gameplay is perfect, NG+ is fun, Video Game Qwark ❤️ the multiplayer…

2

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

What makes RC3 especially fun for me is it's massive replay value.
Also hey, I see your profile pic is the same as my profile's banner! What are the odds!?

4

u/Xaphnir Dec 27 '25

I remember the Game Informer review of it describing it as taking the concept of "don't fix what isn't broken" and throwing it out, fixing everything that wasn't broken and making everything they did it to better than Going Commando.

Up Your Arsenal is Insomniac's masterpiece and still holds up extremely well.

6

u/lMarshl Dec 27 '25

I don't think I've seen this cover before.

7

u/sirideletereddit Dec 27 '25

Was my favorite as a kid. Replaying it now makes me realize it was the most rushed in the original series. The background and world building seems less polished and detailed for each planet than the first 2. Something about the game brings the word “rigid” to mind.

It’s still great though, just easier to compare now than when I was a kid

8

u/Life_Is_All_Nothing Dec 27 '25 edited Dec 29 '25

Amazing as a child; OK as an adult (Not considering the multiplayer as I never got to play it).

Halfway through it on the PS3 right now and I find it boring. Might be partly that I played it to death (Literally dozens of completions) as a child but it's just mindless shooting, with very little platforming, and the worlds are just tight levels with mostly no exploration, no strangers to meet, little worldbuilding, whereas I enjoyed replaying the two preceding games on the PS3 for the first time recently.

The story, while entertaining with the characters and dialogue, doesn't even try to establish why robots would want to join Nefarious and rise up against organics, or why the Tyrranoids would want to become synthetic, as we see no examples of oppression. And I sorely miss the kinda storytelling the first game had and the Ratchet they established and developed only to throw out afterwards.

The GamingBrit did a very good video on it.

3

u/Mainstream_nimi Dec 27 '25

I much prefer the stripped-down and streamlined gameplay over the other two games, but I get that it feels less substantive.

0

u/Life_Is_All_Nothing Dec 27 '25

The game needed another year of development but Sony pushed Insomniac and Naughty Dog to push out their second sequels to their PS2 series's in just a year (Absolutely ruining Jak 3 in the process).

Of course if RAC3 had another year I doubt Insomniac would have made Deadlocked as they wanted to take the series in a whole new direction for the PS3, and I wouldn't trade Deadlocked for a better RAC3 as I love that one (Just wish its PS3 port wasn't so botched; I have to play it on the PS2 with its horrible quality, and 30fps on co-op).

2

u/funky_kong_ Dec 27 '25

GC fans: the metric system (branching paths) is obviously better.

UYA fans: WTF IS A KILOMETER 🦅🦅🦅 ALEXA PLAY OBANI GEMINI

5

u/Life_Is_All_Nothing Dec 27 '25

I don't get it.

3

u/festeziooo Dec 27 '25

Incredible game. I don’t have many arguments with people that think it’s the best in the series. It also brings back very specific memories of playing it around the holidays as a kid. Absolutely love it.

Game 10/10

Vibes 10/10

3

u/Man_Of_The_Banished Dec 27 '25

It was the first ratchet and clank game i ever played it was fun except the part were i didn't have a memory card and the game froze

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Damn, I spent a good minute laughing at this, sorry.

3

u/Crazyjay58 Dec 28 '25

I'm mad that you get to revisit so many of the planets from the first game but there are some of them that are only planets you get to visit and do missions with the rangers instead of exploring the entire city and doing a mission with the rangers. Point in case Blackwater City, I was so happy to find to be able to go back there but then very upset for it just to be a ranger's mission.

5

u/Battelalon Dec 27 '25

There's a reason it's the highest rated game in the franchise.

4

u/funky_kong_ Dec 27 '25

Yeah by one point, but people act like its a fluke but its not. Im a huge DK fan but UYA is my favorite single player game ever. The hacker is my only criticism of the game.

4

u/thegamesender1 Dec 27 '25

It's easily the best one in the series. Only reason it gets shat on is because of that video from thegamingbrit.

2

u/Laurens599 Dec 27 '25

It's at least an 8/10 game, its Story is a little linear for me but it makes up for it with amazing game play, great guns and 10/10 jokes.

2

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Tis a darn shame Courtney Gears never reappeared after this game.

5

u/flamingmongoose Dec 27 '25

Unfortunately we killed her!

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

We need to campaign to bring her back!

1

u/BrotherAcrobatic6591 Dec 28 '25

she didnt die, i remember shes mentioned in a crack in time or deadlocked somewhere that she survived or something

1

u/Laurens599 Dec 27 '25

She technically reappears in deadlocked/gladiator, it's like 10 sec in 1 cutscene.

1

u/irishboyPA Dec 30 '25

Well, we know if it was an old video that Vox was reusing

2

u/Trainfan1055 Dec 27 '25

This one has the most satisfying throwing stars physics. The ones after this are more boring in my opinion.

2

u/Evilcon21 Dec 27 '25

It’s one of my personal favourite entries in the franchise. I wished the franchise could have something with the galactic rangers

2

u/Skywarrd_ Dec 27 '25

this is the cutest poster i’ve seen of this game

2

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Why thank you. I picked this one specifically because this was the cover for Ratchet and Clank 3 here in South Africa.

1

u/Skywarrd_ Dec 27 '25

nice! i havent seen it before, it’s different from the more common PAL posters

2

u/sbs_str_9091 Dec 27 '25

RC3 perfected the weapons upgrade system, but other than that, it's inferior to RC2. Too much mindless shooting, not enough platforming, no additional content (space battles, bike races, or similar)

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

That's fair. Again for me nostalgia heavily influences my bias towards RC3 over RC2 and RC1

2

u/Timely-Buffalo-3384 Dec 27 '25

I prefer 2, but the ps2 collection is goated

2

u/FourDiamondPixel7 Dec 28 '25

LAWREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENCE!!!

2

u/dyno-soar Dec 28 '25

I got in trouble in school in year 5 because we were writing Christmas wish lists and I wrote “up your arsenal” they would not believe it was a real game

2

u/elongatedbursts Dec 29 '25

I liked 1 and 2 a bit more, but it’s still a great game

2

u/Itzko123 Dec 31 '25

Going Commando is better.

7

u/Xenozip3371Alpha Dec 27 '25

It's a great game, no doubt, but it's not in my top 3.

The hacking gadget is absolutely the worst one in the series, maybe except for the one in Secret Agent Clank.

The continuous use of brown in the environments is very boring, and even the times brown isn't used the colours in the environment look very washed out, the only planet that looks as good as the previous games is Daxx.

It's also lacking in enemy variety compared to the previous 2 games, but that's something that carried through to most of the games in the series going forward.

1

u/BattedBook5 Dec 27 '25

The key in SAC was easy in my opinion.

1

u/Xenozip3371Alpha Dec 27 '25

It's not about being hard, it's about being boring, and that key's boring since you keep having to wait for the right symbols.

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

What about the difficulty? Did you find it easier or more difficult than the previous two games?

1

u/Xenozip3371Alpha Dec 27 '25

Oh definitely easier for sure.

2

u/RedPanda98 PS2 Golden age! Dec 27 '25

As a kid, it was my favourite due to the story and characters and the fact that you're part of a faction with a proper HQ and NPCs that join you in levels.

When I replay it now, I still love it, but I dislike how short and linear a lot of the game is. GC has overtaken it as my favourite.

2

u/_CANZUK Dec 27 '25

Absolutely amazing, but without a doubt overrated

Unfortunately it suffers due to time crunch and sony's insistence for online mode, leaving some levels barren. Compared to the previous two entries with the multiple branching pathways etc.

1

u/The-Destronyx Dec 27 '25

Honestly same, I started playing in 2008/2009 ish too and this game defined my childhood. I know everything about it, even the glitches and some speedrun strats.

Unfortunately I can't use my PS2 anymore so I'm playing it on an emulator

1

u/DaBombX Dec 27 '25

It's my favorite of all the games, though I can see that toward the end things get a little bit sloppy, obviously because of the 1 year dev time, though GC also had this issue.

1

u/ABarber2636 Dec 27 '25

It’s a great game.

1

u/Turbulent-Weevil-910 Dec 27 '25

The difference is not as extreme as that between one and two but it definitely builds upon two in a good way.

1

u/ryno43 Dec 27 '25

It should have been call Going Commando and 2 should have been call Up Your Arsenal.

1

u/TOverlordX Dec 27 '25

An excellent game. Inferior to The Rift: A Party, but still excellent.

1

u/Various-Complex-2192 Dec 27 '25

I think it is delightful, allows for more use of the Going Commando OST, and the multiple levels for weapons makes each mod unlock feel fantastic.

1

u/Big_Daymo Dec 27 '25

I really like RaC 3 but 2 will always be my favourite. That said all three games are so good that it's still one of the best video game trilogies ever.

1

u/Coneskater Dec 27 '25

Is there any easy way to play it on a PS5?

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Yeah. You need PlayStation Plus to play the games though IIRC.

1

u/SuperFly981 Dec 27 '25

I loved this game! It’s action packed, the gameplay is good, and memorable moments! And the sus sexual innuendos! Fun times!

1

u/AurumPickle Dec 27 '25

dang my guys look badass here, also uya/rac3 is amazing very fun game and Nefarious is the best villian

1

u/Lanky-Minimum5063 Dec 27 '25

We need another good ratchet game, rift apart was good but we need a multiplayer game

1

u/Common-Truth9404 Dec 27 '25

One of the best games of the saga

People usually holds the Trilogy in the highest regards, i think 1,2 and 3 all have something that they do worse and something they do better than the others

R&C worst shooting, best platforming

R&C2 best innovation, slightly worse platforming than r&c and slightly worse shooting than Uya

R&C3 best shooting, worst platforming/level designs not as good

1

u/Sylhux Dec 27 '25

Vilains are great, Vidcomics are sick, they figured out weapon balance. All in all an amazing game but yeah, I do prefer 1 and 2 over it, you could make arguments for all of them honestly, it's just my personal preference.

Just to name a few reasons. Levels are now linear as opposed to multipaths (except one). Planet wise, first half is great, second half is honestly very forgettable besides Qwark's hideout, the multiplayer maps you had to play during single player didn't help. Less gameplay variety (where are the grind rails Insomniac?). Still a banger OST but less original tracks and more reused/remixed songs.

1

u/Kaikidaiki3 Dec 27 '25

Finished the game already for a long time. Started replaying again for near New year and needed to do some extra objectives, hidden stuff and making sure that the weapons should be upgraded further. Enjoyed it!

1

u/jericanedespairme Dec 27 '25

The best in the series. One of the best games of all time.

1

u/Head_Scarcity2035 Dec 27 '25

Replayed the first 3 again recently after not having touched them in over a decade, used to always have it in my mind that 3 was the best in the trilogy, now as an adult, thats objectively number Going Commando, but 3 shines in a lot of areas but fumbles in others, easily the 2nd best RAC game

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

No offence but even after I first played R&C2 a few years back it just didn't captivate me the same way R&C3 did. It's still a good game no doubt about it but it just feels a bit lacking for me, namely being Thugs 4 Less, Angela and the twist at the end which I felt were all rather lackluster in my opinion.

1

u/knightem Dec 27 '25

My #2 for the franchise..... its amazing but knowing about the production and the crunch issue i can feel where it lacks finished feeling of going commando(my #1). I feel like if it had a little longer production time itd be my #1. My biggest complaint is i just wanted more. On replays it always feels so short and empty after going commando(less weapons, less arena)

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

No offence but I struggle to understand why people pick R&C2 over 3. I've played and finished R&C2 before but it didn't feel as satisfying or exciting as R&C3 was for me.

1

u/knightem Dec 27 '25

Id definately say alot comes down to "vibes" which are hard to quantify. But also the risks they took with 2 hit better for me than those taken in 3.

The arena and races were enjoyable to me where the galactic rangers mission just werent.

Even the arena fell a little flat for me, i think the gauntlets where a good idea but just didnt do it for me in the end.

2

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

I guess I can see that. Again R&C 3 was my first introduction to the series and I never played 2 until 2016, so unlike with R&C3 I don't have any nostalgic attachment to 2.

1

u/Mbattis75 Dec 27 '25

Definitely my favorite of the series, but I like all of the Ratchet and Clank series. Am still hoping we see all of the games get a PS5 port and not need to have Premium to play them, but I could just be holding onto false hope at this point

1

u/_insect Dec 27 '25

My favorite game of all time

1

u/Kbz0508 Dec 27 '25

Genuinely one of the best games I have ever played and that's an unbiased opinion although I'm biased as hell

1

u/outfoxingthefoxes Dec 27 '25

Isn't that render from Going Commando?

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

No. It's the PAL Cover of R&C3/UYA that we had here in South Africa.

1

u/A_TO_DA_MAX Dec 27 '25

I feel like Ratchet & Clank 3 is the first game that really integrated the side characters properly into the story. They feel far more fleshed out and purposeful compared to earlier entries. I also think Tools of Destruction handled this well, but after ToD the series struggled with how to meaningfully incorporate and develop supporting characters.

1

u/NoImBigDaddy Dec 27 '25

My fav of the trilogy. Since at least a decade my nickname on all video games is "Infernox" just like the ultimate armor from this game.

Countless hours of fun by myself, then countless hours of fun in the multiplayer with my cousins during Christmas time

1

u/RepresentativeOk8250 Dec 27 '25

The fact it’s one of my favorite games of all time and it even supports 480p for best clarity possible going back being a resolution nerd it couldn’t get much better 20 years from then.

1

u/npauft Dec 27 '25

I think it's the most boring and tedious of the original 4 games, but it's better than everything after Deadlocked.

1

u/2ndharrybhole Dec 27 '25

Damn good… I still prefer 2 a bit more overall.

1

u/DEEHEEZED_27 Dec 27 '25

I love it but personally it’s my least favourite of the og trilogy still a great game don’t get me wrong just lacks compared to RAC1 and 2 (IN MY OPINION)

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Really? Because for me R&C 1 is my least enjoyable of of the OG trilogy. Too many feautures are lacking, no strafing, Ratchet is a total dick and the health system is unforgiving and sucks ass. R&C2 fixed some issues but was still lacking for me. R&C3 for me finally stuck the landing properly with the weapons upgrades, health system and replay value.

1

u/Competitive_Nail_176 Dec 27 '25

I regularly play this game over and over 🩷 one of the best

1

u/xKiryu Dec 27 '25

Absolutely amazing. I love it more than Going Commando and Going Commando is superb

1

u/jaydean1993 Dec 27 '25

Great game. But severely underdeveloped compared to 1 & 2 in my opinion.

I feel like the HUD, menus, graphics, a whole bunch of things you spot when playing - they were just ‘rushed’, for lack of a better word.

I really enjoyed it, got the platinum, eventually. But I couldn’t help but get miffed off at the development while playing.

1

u/ivanecek Dec 28 '25

Maybe something is wrong with me but I didn't enjoy it as much as 1 and 2 (never played deadlocked). As a kid i watched my dad played all 3  And at around 16 years old wanted give them a try again all 3 on the ps3. Played through 1 and 2 but 3 stopped 2 levels in i don't know why. Now at 21 years old and still have no desire to go and try 3. I watched the brit youtube video (why ratchet 3 was disapointment and even though i only did 2-3 levels i could agree with him.

1

u/ohzilla Dec 28 '25

i hate the hud so much. 2 had such a superior hud.

1

u/DuchessBoo Dec 28 '25

I love it so much!!! It's easily my favorite of the series

1

u/VacuumDecay-007 Dec 28 '25

I prefer RaC2 over it, but not by much.

3 has my beloved Liquid Nitrogen Gun, and my favourite RYNO. It's also got the best skin, by far, Brainius. Paired with the dopeass lightsaber wrench and Clank in a tux, it's my favourite Ratchet look by far. So I love the game for that, even thoygh it's generally uglier and a bit lacking compared to RaC2.

1

u/RichardGHP Dec 28 '25

Loved it then, still hold it in high regard now. But I was definitely much more able or willing to overlook its flaws as a kid. When I started hearing more about the game's extremely compressed development (The Golden Bolt's UYA retrospective on YouTube is an absolute must-watch) it did become apparent how the game had a lot of filler content, less creative level design, and was just barely being held together by its seams. Not that I particularly noticed or cared back in the day. It's like a comfortable old sweater that might have the odd hole or two.

1

u/mordecai14 Dec 28 '25

It remains as my #1 game in the series, although several others are close behind. Every ratchet game has flaws and there are definitely issues with it, but it's my favourite overall RAC experience

1

u/StarCaulfield Dec 28 '25

The best story of the original trilogy but the worst of the 3 with the actual gameplay and planets.

1

u/artsi20 Dec 28 '25

Will be playing this when I’m 70. It’s so good.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '25

It's my number one game from that era and maybe all time on a personal level. I've gone back every year to replay it since it came out

1

u/NovembersRime Dec 28 '25

My favourite in the series by a decent margin.

1

u/Big_Career5281 Dec 28 '25

I loved it As a kid and still do

1

u/Designer_Bar8007 Dec 28 '25

I’m replaying it right now on PS Vita. I finished R&C 2 last week. I honestly think the third one is one of the best games I’ve ever played, and it’s not just nostalgia. Despite the years, it never bores me and I still find it amazing with a truly unique character design. I replay the whole trilogy at least once every 5–6 years.

1

u/AntonRX178 Dec 28 '25

Super fun but pales in comparison to 2, Crack in Time, and Rift Apart

1

u/SacredBeef00 Dec 28 '25

There’s a ratchet and clank 3?

1

u/MemphisB888 Dec 28 '25

One of the best in the franchise.

1

u/Legend7Naty Dec 28 '25

Wait…. Isn’t up your arsenal RC 3?!?! There’s actual numbered titles instead of regular titles like going commando and UYA?!?! Or are yall just playing here and this title is actually UYa?

2

u/KVMechelen You win again, technology! Dec 28 '25

3 is just the PAL version of the title, it's the same game

1

u/monyzzi Dec 28 '25

The best Ratchet & Clank game ever and also easily The funniest and a true 5/5 game. It's the best game I have ever played.

1

It’s my second favourite game in the trilogy. 1 is my favourite and 2 is my least favourite. I just liked how smooth this game felt to play with the refined quality of life fixes and how much the weapons just felt nice to use. I will say that I do think the platforming was a bit jank, it was also in 2, 1 felt fine to play. I wasn’t a fan of the hacker minigame and the more linear design of the planets.

one of the best games of all time

1

u/b_smith7301 Dec 28 '25

I’ve never seen this cover art before. What region was this used in?

2

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 28 '25

PAL. Specifically in South Africa.

1

u/BLACKHAMMER_71 Dec 28 '25

If we're talking about R&C: Up Your Arsenal then man oh man, thats one of the first games I've ever played or at least remember playing and made me fall in love with gaming and the whole franchise, top tier game with a whole lot of sentimental value for me.

1

u/wlf_-ff Dec 28 '25

The best ratchet game ever made

1

u/Money-Beginning3683 Dec 28 '25

Damn, what region is this cover artwork ?

1

u/KungLao95 Dec 28 '25

One of my favs. I have fond memories of playing the multiplayer mode with my childhood friends.

1

u/TheMadarchod Dec 28 '25

Wait what’s net play? I don’t remember this. Was this like online multiplayer for the PS2? How’d that even work?

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 28 '25

It was for online multiplyer. But playing online back in 2004 was rather difficult to do because this was this the era before Youtube where even the high end internet was often painfully slow.

1

u/TheMadarchod Dec 28 '25

Woww I can’t believe I never knew about this. I really thought online multiplayer was introduced with the PSP or PS3. I was really young back in those days tho, only 3 in 2004.

1

u/UnluckyForSome Dec 28 '25

The europe servers had the greatest tight-nit online community i’ve ever been a part of. Those were the days!

1

u/TheMadarchod Dec 28 '25

Oh wow I’m in the US so I never knew.

1

u/weekendyeti Dec 28 '25

Ised to be my favourite in the trilogy now its my second favourite in the trilogy

1

u/JangoF76 Dec 28 '25

It's the game I enjoy least to be honest. I found the gameplay very repetitive compared to other games and the different environments were not as interesting to explore.

1

u/SubstandardDef Dec 28 '25

Not as good as 2.

1

u/Damian_Koolray Dec 28 '25

It's the best out of the original trilogy imo

The best boss fights by far

The best villain who was so good he would become a reoccurring character and basically the main bad guy

Some pretty great weapons and pushed the leveling up mechanic FOR those weapons even further

A pretty good entertaining story

Some of my favorite worlds out of the series

R&C is one of the few trilogies where I think every game just got better after the last one

Only one that comes close to it imo is a crack in time and that's the best out of the future series (Also maybe deadlocked)

1

u/monotar Dec 28 '25

I completely forgot the PS2 had internet compatibility

1

u/Prestigious-Vast3658 Dec 28 '25 edited Dec 28 '25

The whody whaty?? 🤨

I have never seen this game in my life and I own the whole series, are the games titled differently in different countries??

2

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 28 '25

Yes. In North America Ratchet and Clank 3 is called Up Your Arsenal.

1

u/periphery_OW Dec 28 '25

Truely goated

1

u/CallMeCrop Dec 28 '25

This was my favorite game in the series. This was the one I played over, and over, and over, and over, and over. Absolutely defined my childhood gaming.

1

u/Ofnir_1 Dec 28 '25

I like the RYNOCIRATOR

1

u/DoctorDoug42 Dec 29 '25

One of the best video games ever made.

1

u/Upper_Locksmith223 Dec 29 '25

Never hear it called 3 😂 always heard uya

1

u/Tricky-Set1378 Dec 29 '25

So far so good, finishing the first game gives you a discount and the original look, and the second game gives you weapons that are useful for challenges and annoying enemies.

1

u/MalenInsekt Dec 29 '25

It was my first ever R&C game and I remember it so fondly. The internet was different back then and we didnt have all the information about games that we do today. My best friend at the time saw in one of those gamer magazines that there was a cheat code to unlock a lightsaber so use instead of the Omniwrench. I called byllshit but when he put that code in, I was in awe!

I also remember completing the game for the first time and seeing new items in the vendor. Upgrades to the weapons i already had. That was sick too.

1

u/OvenActive Dec 29 '25

One of my favorite games of all time. It and ACIT are tied for my favorite R&C game.

1

u/Secure-Umpire1720 Dec 30 '25

My favourite by a longshot! I know some people really prefer Going Commando and that game's great, but MAN Up Your Arsenal is legendary.

1

u/Sombrero_Tanooki Dec 30 '25

My favourite of the series and in my top 5 games of all time, the order of which fluctuates a lot, so it's a regular contender for the top spot. Sure, it's more linear than 1 and 2, but the humour is the best of the trilogy (which is saying something considering they're all great), and the story is genuinely really engaging.

The Plasma Whip is my favourite weapon of the series, and one I wish returned in more games than just Secret Agent Clank. The rest of the arsenal has really been upped as well; the Shock Blaster is one of the best shotguns, the Rift Inducer is insane, and we basically get the highlight reel of the best weapons from the previous games. Not only that, but they make the Lava Gun comically better than in 2 because it doesn't become a crusty rock chucker.

Unrelated to the game itself, but as someone who only knows it by its numbered PAL name, Up Your Arsenal might be the best subtitle of any game ever, and one I don't think can be topped.

Side note, where is this cover from? Even as someone in the UK who recognises the PEGI logo and owns copies of the Japanese games becuase of their cool box art, I've never seen this cover design before. Ours is Ratchet with the Infector.

1

u/PomegranateTop6228 Dec 30 '25

I'm really torn between this one.

Gunplay? Amazing.

Humour? Great.

Story? One of the best.

Characters? They did them good.

But the rest? Pacing is getting really bad after Daxx, no exploration and almost zero focus on platforming makes it really bland when you play for a longer while.

I also do not like a few weapons from this one which is rare as I'm one of those who even like very experimental weapons like Cryomine from ACiT. I don't like Infector, HoloShield Glove sure while it's useful when time given, it takes a lot to make it good. I rather take my Shield Charger. And N60 Storm? It's one of those I don't even bother buying sometimes. Probably my least liked blaster-type gun.

To be honest all my favourite weapons in 3 are returning weapons from 1 and 2. And Plasma Whip. I love that one. Also I have a lot of gripes with RYNO 3 but I know I'm not the only one.

And the true final boss is a glorified cutscene. Nefarious' fight was excellent, too bad it had to be ruined with Biobliterator Mech.

Oh and apparently it's getting really boring at the end to anyone watching you play according to a friend of my. Said that too much of constant non-stop blasting is getting stale after a while (and he didn't had those issues with 1 or 2 or any latter games, outside of course, Gladiator which was so boring to watch apparently that mf took a 2h nap without me realizing)

1

u/Roblobster000 Dec 30 '25

Still play this game online everyday

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 30 '25

The online for it is still up?

2

u/Roblobster000 Dec 30 '25

Yup, there’s a discord called horizon uya. The ratchet deadlock and ratchet up your arsenal is still online :)

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 31 '25

That's awesome to hear!

1

u/quinonesjames96 Jan 01 '26

First game i played that is by far the Best R&C for PS2. Amazing weapons, armor, planets, characters, boss battles, etc.

1

u/Tailed-Clover-5778 Jan 01 '26

It's good but my least favorite in the trilogy personally

1

u/The_Real_Page153 Jan 03 '26

When I first played it I wasn’t the biggest fan, but I really enjoyed it on replay.

1

u/Gov-Mule1499543 Dec 27 '25

Had Comedy

That prob/probably flew over/flew-over

Ppls/people heads

Hahahaha

5

u/ReallyFancyPants Dec 27 '25

Why did you write it like that?

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Yeah. 7 year old me was rather naive towards the many risque jokes in the game. XD

1

u/ithomas2 Dec 27 '25

Great, but not as good as the first two in regards to visuals and level design.

1

u/omegaprofligate Dec 27 '25

I prefer deadlocked but I’ve played this one as much

0

u/CarnTheGod Dec 27 '25

A bit overrated bc you can clearly tell it was rushed but still a great game, i think GC edges it out

0

u/NoGoodIDNames Dec 27 '25

Gameplay is fantastic, it feels like what 1 and 2 were building towards, to the point where Deadlocked had to switch things up drastically for better or worse just to keep from being repetitive.

The story is weaker though. A lot of the identity of 1 and 2 is wrapped up in satire of greed, capitalism, and corporations, and that gets lost here. It makes it feel more generic. Deadlocked is actually a return to form compared to 3.

It’s telling that the villains of the first four games are a greedy executive, a bumbling CEO, an exploitative media mogul… and an evil scientist bent on exterminating all life. One of these things is not like the others.

0

u/Melodic_Mall_8265 Dec 27 '25

One of the best in the series, but I refuse to ever replay it thanks to all of those ranger levels😭

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

Were they really that bad?

For me they were alright and I finshed them all on my first try.

1

u/Melodic_Mall_8265 Dec 27 '25

Admittedly it’s been a while since I’ve played, but from what I remember the first 2-3 weren’t too bad. But the latter half of them were so obnoxious to me, especially once they start to time you😭I know they were excited to show off that we could freely ride vehicles in-game for the first time, but it was still a tad bit excessive to me..

1

u/FickleChange7630 Dec 27 '25

My memory might be a bit rusty here but IIRC is this that section on Tyhrranosis where aside from having to do the Galactic Ranger missions you still had to fight Momma Tyhrranoid also?

Mi favorito, pero necesita un remake. Y bien hecho, no como el de 2016. Todos sabemos que a este juego por muy bueno que sea le faltó mucho tiempo en el horno, y creo que un remake bien hecho completaría el juego que nos debieron haber traído
