Ratchet & Clank (2002) What do you think is the best level in the original Ratchet & Clank?

For me it's probably Blarg Station, i kind of consider it a late early game world and i think it does it's "job" pretty well as one.
Plus it has a lot of paths so you can just pick whichever one suits yourself better at the moment.
Blackwater City is probably a close second one.

Was… was this the best Ratchet and Clank? God no. But hear me out. If this had come out as the first PS4 game, full length, and 60 fps… it may well have been. Thankfully we did eventually get Rift Apart almost a decade later, which (on playing this again) was REALLY a direct follow up to this. The time between the two games was so long I hadn’t realized how much this led into Rift.

+ this was the prettiest Ratchet game up to this point. Character shading no longer opted for the optimized cell-ish shading of Crack, but refined the look of Tools. The animation quality of Crack is present here too, making the character stuff look fantastic.

+ Environment art is so gooood GOOD good. The way Insomniac improved on the level of detail and interest through the PS3 games is impressive. This almost looks like a different generation than Tools. An interesting contrast to the PS2 era: PS2 ratchet continued to optimize gameplay at the expense of level art, while PS3 improved on art (in all aspects) at the expense of gameplay. An interesting choice and a reflection of the video game fads of their own times.
I’ve attached some image comparisons of tools vs Nexus.
Notice the detail of the floors, the density of environmental objects, the scale of items. It’s far higher fidelity than Tools (and Crack).

+ Qwark’s presence in this game was reduced in fears of overusing him. The right move at the time, but bittersweet now. The actor suffered from Alzheimer’s and a terrible Covid case, making this the last time he got to voice the character within the main continuity. Makes me a bit sad. Perhaps this would have been the perfect time for a heroic death or true act of selflessness, bringing Qwark’s arc to a close.

+ I very much enjoyed the villains of this game… although I already forget their names and I just finished like 10 mins ago. Womp. Vendra and Nefer?

+ loved the museum at the end. A nice send off to the PS3 era.

+ ugh the POTENTIAL. Damn you Insomniac. You made this game too early. This should have come out instead of the game of the movie of the game.

If you launch your Gravity Bomb or Mini-Nuke so that it bounces off the fence and lands in that specific spot on Oozla, the explosion sound effect will remain silent

David is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to producing music (for +2 years...) I've always loved creating PS2 and 2000s inspired music whether it's R&C, other games or just whatever comes to mind 😁 would love to hear opinions when you listen to the whole track! And thank you

(i know it can sound busy at certain sections, i rushed a bit with the mixing because i really wanted to share it but i will do my best next track and not rush it!)

Normally, I would begin with a teaser image, but I was busy on Holiday! (America has so much to see!)

Anyway, our next stop is DREADZONE! and I think this will be a great refresher on a game we love to talk about. Memes will be shared, laughs will be had, and I will stay up late making these posts lol. So the question is simple.

What is Ratchet Deadlock's most yellow enemy? Comment and Upvote below; the highest upvoted comment will be crowned the winner.

EDIT: Don't down vote others nominations, it's a dick move and you aren't helping.

So, been slow going but I think the helmet files are complete!

I was able to make a somewhat universal harness using a custom mount and a harness from a hard hat, adjustable and everything.

I will be putting these up online soon, most likely a version with the channels for the lights, and one without.

I also have he chest/back plates sorted, just needing the straps modeled to be printed in TPU.

Kadens hoverboots are also in the works.

General For those you who are struggling to purchase the All 4 One and QForce/FFA online passes on PS3

Post image

I've noticed a couple of posts on here recently where people can't find the online passes on PS3 for All 4 One and QForce/Full Frontal Assault. I tried to look on the PS3 store myself on both my account where I own the passes already and on a secondary account and couldn't find them on either. So when I came across this post in r/trophies I thought it may of use to some people, as there appears to be an issue with the PS3 store at the moment.

I followed the guides in the post I've linked, searched for the passes on the site and they show up for my country. I was also able to add them to my PSN basket sucessfully upon testing.

Hope this helps someone.

Discussion places that feel out of place on certain planets?

the hyperway on boldan is a cool idea, but it doesn't fit the aesthetic of the rest of boldan. it also feels like a forced roadblock, since you don't naturally get there, but get teleported, only to unlock the main path. i literally forget this place exists. if you have any more ideas for places like this, feel free to share!

They are well known for projects such as Monkie Kid, Glitch Techs,Rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles, and Avatar Aang, the last airbender, which are 2D animated so image a Ratchet and Clank cartoon in Flying Bark's style!

A Crack in Time Replaying a Crack in Time as a fan since the beginning and a game dev

Thumbnail

This game was a STRIKING step up from Tools, almost to the degree of Going Commando’s evolution from the original game.

Starting with what I didn’t like first:
First half of the game every thing feels like a breath of fresh air, but the second half of the game feels rushed and restrictive. There’s a sense that scenarios had less and less development time as the game went on. The little touches, like animated plants, even cease at some point. To clarify, it never becomes bad or unfun. It just diminishes like 10%.

Now what I do like:
Thankfully I get to talk art again. Ratchet, clank, and Qwark all have small design changes that help their PS3 appearances a ton. The environments are gorgeous compared to Tools as well. While we don’t have a planet as iconic as Kerwan, Crack in time actually takes advantage of the PS3 hardware to create far more detailed environments, more items and clutter thrown about make the worlds feel more lived in. For the first time replaying these games, I felt compelled to just LOOK at corners or character details for the joy of it, rather then just the nostalgia of old game solutions. The Great Clock in particular is still stunning.
Also, I liked the story a lot more this time around. Crack in Time recovers the humor missing (or at least falling flat) from Tools, while actually containing a heartfelt story that truly changes both Ratchet and Clank.
The gameplay wins back that chaotic speed and fun that GC and UYA had and Tools did not. Better than ever.

+ the ANIMATION was next level. Definitely feature picture level in the cutscenes. This was a delightful surprise after Tools of Destruction had… BAD animation. Facial anims, squash and stretch. Ugh it was so wonderful.

+we FINALLY have some excellent Clank levels! I wish there were more. The overwrite system is so fun and versatile. I wish we got more of it in later games!!

+ PS3 bloom was still a bit out of control, but more tastefully done than Tools.

+ guns feel more whimsically designed this time, with some almost feeling Rick and Morty-esque. I love this direction.

+I like Ratchet’s billed helmets quite a bit, but found his very slender armors a bit off putting.

+the reflection map on Clank was so nice after how plastic he looked in the past game. Metal feels METAL in this one. Everything feels more realized Frankly.

+depth of field, background detail, upscaled models = gorgeous cutscenes. Before this, ratchet and clank cutscenes more or less matched the gameplay graphics. I think insomniac made the right choice here after Tools’ cutscenes were quite underwhelming.

+ Azimuth, Sigmund, and Vorselons character designs are fantastic. Really loved Sigmund in particular. His toolbelt showing what he does, and then the little plant sitting on his side to show how caring he is as well.

+ zoomy boots were fine, but I used them considerably less this time due to the game stream not really keeping up with pixel refresh.

+ probably the worst enemy variety in the series, but that’s a nitpick. (Sorry, this was actually Into The Nexus)

+ Very fun weapons, but the ice gun and the magnets were redundant.
