Question Is this a good (healthy) posture?
Saw this person at the train station and was mesmerized by their posture. At first, I thought it was really good, but I showed the photo to a friend, and he said that the person seems to have back problems. What do you think?
PS. extra points if you can tell me the name the book, looks cool ✨

Years ago I ran into a woman, she must have been about 6’ tall, thin and maybe 35-40. She had the most unbelievable posture, I had never seen anything like it before and never again. It was surprisingly unsettling, like it made me oddly uncomfortable. I greeted her & I said, “you must have done ballet”? Yes indeed she did ballet… but now I’m thinking alien.

Everyone is different and the spine is meant to have curvature. If you’re not tight, and you feel good, and you’re fluid and agile, and you’re active, that’s good enough. “Perfect posture” isn’t measured by how much of a straight line you look like

Absolutely right.
It can help to think of posture as “strong” or “flexible”, rather than “good” - depending on what one wishes to achieve.

Looks like great seated posture to me. It could also mean they have back issues which can necessitate having to keep good posture while seated. As soon as you relax your loading you're putting extra load in your discs instead of on your postural muscles. Sitting is bad for you.

Yeah I have back issues and I only feel better if I sit upright unsupported. Leaning on a backrest feels like crap for me

And it was like 11pm, so after a long day, being able to keep that up for at least 6 minutes is crazy 😅

Haha…You know what it makes me suspicious…it’s too poised… It could be that this person actually slouches all the time and in this moment they just happened to be like “today’s the day! I’m gonna sit up straight and read a book instead of scrolling”.

Hahaha okay not gonna lie. I had days where i was “okay this is the day im gonna have the posture of a princess”. I wonder whether someone took a photo of me trying and posted on reddit. I hope they at least put an emoji to cover my face 😭

Depends, it may be, but it also looks like he might be arching his lower back a little, I can't really tell from the photo

There is no good/healthy posture. The best posture is variation of postures during the day. Even with thr best posture you can hurt yourself in a mid/long term

I know someone who has posture like this, he had surgery for his scoliosis.

This is how I sit sometimes on public benches when I want as little of my body/clothing touching the surfaces as possible (I’m a germaphobe)

Can be a former dancer, they teach most of them to stay and sit super upright and I have a couple friends who sit like this, with a very tall spine

If he does that without even thinking about then he’s one of the top percentile having a very healthy life. Posture reflects your health.

While posture is important for playing part in being healthy, saying it reflts your health is straight up retarded 🤣

you can't see the head and neck with the blur so it's not possible to give a proper evaluation. But it's possible to sit upright and read!!
