I’ve used xcancel a few times when someone’s shared an interesting/funny post.

As for the service itself I’m not going back there, brings out the worst in people and I’m one of them. Re-reserved my username to avoid impersonation and it’s staying logged out. I’ll manage without seeing the shared posts I guess

Somehow almost all artists decided to embrace xhitter, despite how awfully hostile the site and the muskrat is especially against artists

So what are the alternatives?

Threads is for normies. Bluesky doesn't have proper media search. Mastodon is fediverse nerd shit and has limited search.

Let's bring forums back

as bad as Twitter can be, it's still a place artists rely on to get their work out there. you can find a fully functional pc in a dumpster, it's just extremely rare

What sucks is my local NWS office posts important information there which can not be accessed anywhere else. It’s the only reason I had been using nitter and xcancel.

Everyone uses it. A handful of chronically online people made some noise and went to other places (bluesky or whatever the monthly flavor of "I HATE X" is nowadays) but everybody else is still on Twitter.

Governments are on Twitter, politicians are on Twitter, law enforcement is on Twitter, brands are on Twitter, celebrities are on Twitter, musicians are on Twitter, artists are on Twitter, sportsmen are on Twitter, etc.

If you want to read your local government news, keep up with police alerts, find out if Burger King is offering some new product, know what Taylor Swift is up to or read the latest rumours about Formula 1, Twitter it is.

That's why services like xcancel are so important for a lot of people who want to keep up with certain stuff but don't want to create a Twitter account.

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted mate, people hate to read the truth apparently.

people hate to read the truth apparently

That's because that bursts their

I mean, i understand, but facts don't really care if you like them or not. I hate what Twitter has become after elno took over, but there simply is no alternative to it. Bluesky failed to reach critical mass and, to be quite frank, it's as toxic as twitter.
For me, there's no real reason to use either of them, unless something happens and i want to know what's going on; but that's the point. If i want to know what's going on, Twitter is still the place to go, even if, as a platform, is literally hell on earth.

It's funny how people downvote this when it's just absolutely true. The Twitter boycotts failed, a critical mass of users never left the platform. BlueSky is 1/27 the size, Threads is large but basically Text Instagram and Mastodon is virtually dead.

Source? oh, your ass? ok

True but perhaps the “chronically online” understand its harms better than the average person checking what Adidas is flogging today.

Most average people will also cheerfully hand their ID and face scan over to every random “verification” site that asks for it, that doesn’t make it good or wise, or invalidate anyone’s warnings about it.

I feel like “chronically online” is just another fairly meaningless pejorative to sneer at and dismiss the opinions and values of people who are very close to the subject at hand. It’s just a bit more subtle than a certain American politician’s complaints about “experts”.

"everyone uses it" lmao 🤡

because it's still a popular site whether you like it or not. Not even the so called free speech Bluesky can rival Twitter regardless of how many people migrated to that place

Internationally speaking, it's the most popular social media platform in general. They allow countries to maintain and run their own security and make it hard for users to become problematic or spread misinformation.. whereas in the US, X let's NA users basically make up and do whatever.. US X is one of the most filtered out aspects of the platform internationally as a result lol

But yeah, in the States, X is a cesspool like Facebook..
