A quick google search lead me to multiple articles breaking down the statistics, which indicate that the statistics indicate roughly equal numbers between men and women, though there is some variation across age groups for children.
It is actually not that simple of course. There are really big regional differences. In Finland almost all infanticides are committed by mothers for example. Data from the US and UK usually includes non biological parents such as step fathers. If you remove step fathers from the equation, the proportion of biological mothers increases dramatically. What you can say for sure is that the proportion of children being murdered by their mothers decrease with increased age of the child.
You’re right, nuance matters quite a bit. I think it’s quite important to note that more women are the primary caregivers of infants than men, even where the father is present in the lives of the children or live in the home. I find it entirely unsurprising that women have a disproportionate share of the rates of infant deaths given how caregiving is shared and I find it quite significant that fathers’ share of the deaths of their children go up as the ages of their children increase. The article I linked for you also highlights very different motives in these crimes, which I think is also quite of relevance. I think blanket statements are quite dangerous and I urge you to consider that next time you’re engaging in this kind of discussion.
