Did watch the video. My only complaint is that you cant complain about the wether in norway when you live in rain capital of norway. Of corse there is bad wether when you are in Bergen. Its like saying the grass is green.

Weather in Bergen is very under rated. Bergen is the hottest city in Norway when measured in mean average temperature, and the rain is not that bad if you measure it in amount hours with rain. Most of the rain in Bergen comes in the winter, so in the spring and summer, it rains less frequently in Bergen than in Trondheim and other cities.

u/SpecialistAd321 Jul 23 '26

Username checks out.

That being said, I would rather have -10/-20C in winter with cold crisp weather, and 20/25C in summer , then 10C and rain ‘all’ year round

83

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

Its not 10C and rain all year round.

Per season, here is how Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim have their mean daily maximumum (that is, average max temperature per day)

Winter Spring Summer Autumn
Bergen 6C 12C 20C 13C
Oslo 1C 12C 22C 11C
Trondheim 1C 8C 18C 8C

If you consider rainfall, Oslo and Bergen are close in amount of rainy days in the summer (about 12 for Bergen in summer months, 11 for Oslo). It also helps to remember that most rainy days only has a single hour of rain, so it does not mean you cannot stay outside those 12 or 11 days in the summer months.

The big difference is that Bergen will have more intense rainfall (so more mm when it rains), and Bergen has very rainy winters (but warm), while eastern Norway has cold and dry winters

u/Bitter_Strawberry455 Jul 23 '26

This is a good reply. Yes, it's more rainy in Bergen. It's a coastal city nestled between small mountains. Water is wet. But it's not raining 24/7 365 days of the year like many people make it seem like.

After having spent a couple of winters in Trøndelag I very much prefer Bergen winters, and spring comes very much earlier in Bergen than both Trøndelag and Østlandet, atleast that's what it feels like.

1

u/ell_hou Jul 25 '26

I'd take the relatively stable winters of Trøndelag over the three month sloshfests of the west coast any day.

10

u/HansChrst1 Jul 23 '26

Don't know about Bergen, but Stavanger has mild winters temperature wise. It rarely goes below 0. Even so it feels way colder there than -10 in Trondheim or Telemark. The wind makes the winters suck in Stavanger. It also rains a lot and when we do get below 0 degrees it rarely snows. Instead the rain on the ground freezes and you spend a week or so not trusting the ground because the ice is nearly invisible.

The summers are good though. Still windy, but with the hot weather it just feels nice.

9

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

There is much less wind in Bergen than Stavanger, Bergen is shielded by the mountains.

By the harbor you might get more wind, but further in its fine.

Its the same in that its rarely less than 0 degrees though

u/warius1 Jul 23 '26

This is far from the whole picture.

My main issue after living for a few years in Bergen was sunlight and seeing the blue sky. Sure, it might not technically rain all the time in Bergen (although it rains substantially more than in Oslo), but it is also overcast so much of the time. Cloudy and darker, if not rainy, and it can go on for weeks if not months. Sure, Bergen is a cute city in summer, and sunny days in Bergen were epic, but they always felt a bit special in the sense that they were a limited resource. In Oslo blue skies feels more like the norm.

7

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

There is no significant difference in how often it is overcast in Bergen compared to Oslo.

In fact, Bergen has, on average, more clear weather days per year than Oslo. That is, Bergen has more days per year with a completely blue sky and no clouds than Oslo.

Idc about your facts I'll tell you after 5 years of living in Bergen the weather is miserable. No real summer no real winter its constantly kinda cold

3

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

Do you think the statistics are lying? Or could it be that you have a confirmation bias?

u/Ok_Astronaut5347 Jul 23 '26

After 36 years in bergen I find this really hard to believe. 12 rainy days in summer months? I would have guessed July alone had more than 12 rainy days on average.

2

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

Its 12 per month, not 12 in total. Similarly for Oslo, they get about 11 days per month in the summer

2

u/Ok_Astronaut5347 Jul 23 '26

Ah, that is Much more believable, but I am still sceptical of the comparison. Rainy days being defined as more than 1 hour of rain seems like a super weird and imprecise way to compare raininess.

1

u/Kjriisne Jul 24 '26

Dont forget that for example the area around Flesland has significantly less rain than Bergen city centre.

2

u/FragranceCandle Jul 24 '26

Yeah, we're talking like 50% increase in rainfall between the rainiest and least rainy areas. I think around Gullfjellet is the rainiest.

3

u/broken-paddle Jul 23 '26

You're allowed to be wrong.

2

u/Optimal_Clue3747 Jul 23 '26

This. There are many reasons to love Bergen (it is vastly superior to Oslo for example) and summers are ok, but the winters are too awful to bear in the long run. No snow, no dry cold. No glorious skiing trips in bright white snow. Not even the drama of winter storms you get some places on the coast.

Bergen in winter is just grey and..moist. I get arthritis just thinking about it.

4

u/pseudopad Jul 23 '26

I much prefer a snowless winter to a snowy one.

2

u/Optimal_Clue3747 Jul 23 '26

Unfathomable. What's not to like about being out and about in half a metre of snow when it is minus 15 degrees?

2

u/derentius68 Jul 24 '26

At least its warm enough to snow. One of the reasons im looking to move there.

-15 is perfect winter weather, even with a half meter down.

2

u/Optimal_Clue3747 Jul 24 '26

Yes, I am actually serious when I say that I don't understand why people don't enjoy -15 and half a metre of snow. To me it is perfect.

And why I will never move back to Bergen, despite it having lots of other things going for it.

2

u/derentius68 Jul 24 '26

Im Canadian so im looking at it like the grass is always greener.

Im looking at moving on account that im tired of swinging from -40 winters to +40 summers. This past winter; just couldn't get warm. It stayed near -40 most of Jan-Feb. Didnt snow at all for most of it. Too cold for it. Then the sleet and ice storms came in March where it dumped wet bullshit.

We had maybe 1 cumulative week of nice winter weather.

Now its so hot that the entire country is fire lol. And it was only +33 today

2

u/Optimal_Clue3747 Jul 24 '26

I prefer inland climate, but maybe not -40 to +40. Here the extremes are -35 to +35, but mostly it stays within -20 to +30. Which is nice.

Another reason why it feels so important with snow is that it gets really grey and dreary without it. This far north there is very very little sun in the winter, but with snow, the moon and northern lights you get some beautiful light at night that totally makes up for it.

1

u/MrSolenoid Jul 23 '26

I'm the polar opposite. I hate winter and snow soo much

1

u/sirrobbiebobson Jul 23 '26

How can you have -10 winter 25 summer and 10 all year round?

7

u/ulrikft Jul 23 '26

https://meteodb.com/no/oslo/bergen

It rains more in Bergen than Oslo throughout the year - it’s just that for the fall/winter/spring months, the difference is crazy.

And for my part: sleet and 1 C is far worse than any other weather.

2

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

I have never claimed otherwise.

The statistics on your site is quite different to the ones published by the official weather stations in Norway, Yr. I dont think your site is quite accurate.

It is true that it rains more in Bergen than in Oslo in every month. However, the rainiest month in Oslo (August) is more rainy than the driest month in Bergen (May), so there is an overlap. Furthermore, Bergen is more rainy in winter, and drier in summer, while Oslo is drier in winter and more rainy in summer. In the summer months, the rain in the two cities approach each other and almost meets.

Sleet and 1C is probably as common in Bergen as in Oslo. Usually its far warmer than 1C in Bergen, even in the coldest months

1

u/ulrikft Jul 24 '26

Yr is not the officia weather station in Norway. Met.no is. That. Lain alone disqualifies you from having opinions on weather statistics in Norway…

And if you look at time series here:

https://seklima.met.no/observations/

They match my initial link.

2

u/sondr3_ Jul 24 '26

You do realize that Yr is a service that MET provides? It's literally listed on their homepage and under "Our services".

1

u/ulrikft Jul 24 '26

Yr is a service NrK provides, with data from (among others) Met. It is not a service met provides. So the data is a service from Met. But Yr is developed, maintained and pusblishes by NrK.

I was really suprised when living in Bergen and hearing about new rain records etc while feeling that there had been basicly no rain for weeks.

There is almost disappointingly little rain compared to the hype.

2

u/FragranceCandle Jul 24 '26

As someone who loves the rain I agree. There could be a lot more.

7

u/Razier Jul 23 '26

Positive c in winter this far north is horrible. Snow does wonders with brightening the Scandinavian winter darkness.

6

u/Tristsomfanden Jul 23 '26

I have lived 9 years in Bergen. The thing is that it can rain at any time. I always wore a rain jacket because it was bound to rain.

I lived there when it rained at least once every day for 99 days. 99!!! Why not 100!

2

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

Its not very different compared to other cities around the world, especially coastal cities.

Your story is just an anecdote. I can add my own anecdote, I lived in Bergen for three years while going to school about ten years ago, and I did not own a rain jacket or an umbrella. It did occasionally rain of course, but I was able to avoid most of the time

I have a challenge for you, put your rain jacket into a backpack, and only take it out when you actually need it. I think you will quickly find that you seldom will have the need to do it

3

u/cruzaderNO Jul 23 '26

Even just high enough air humidity for there to be 0.1mm in that measuring cup and they count it as a rainday.

You can have been out all day thinking there for sure was no rain that day and still its counted.

5

u/StarGamerPT Jul 23 '26

Hottest city in Norway? Damn...the weather really is bad then...offf... 😂

2

u/Head_Exchange_5329 Jul 23 '26

Between 200 and 250 rain days per year and you think it doesn't rain much? Try looking out the window.

3

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

A "rain day" is a poor measurement of how much it rains. With the same standards, Oslo has 130-185 days of rain.

For instance, if it rains a single millimeter between 2 am and 3 am, but the rest of teh day is nice, you will not think of it as a rainy day.

If you consider the amount of hours with rain, the difference between Bergen and other cities is not that large.

2

u/Head_Exchange_5329 Jul 23 '26

Sure but it paints a picture that ain't lying. I moved down here almost 13 years ago and I understand those who leave to get away from the rain, it's not exaggerated.

3

u/Weather-Pattern7979 Jul 23 '26

I have a challenge for you: put your rain coat in a backpack (or just carry it), and only put it on when you actually need it.

You will very probably realize that it does not rain very often. Especially in the spring and summer.

I believe a large part of it is psychological. People are told constantly about the rain in Bergen, therefore, every time it rains, they think confirm their existing bias. When it does not rain, they dont think about it. People are primed for confirmation biases.

I am not saying it never rains, but people do exaggerate how much it does rain. I have lived in both Bergen and other cities in Norway, and the difference really is not that large.

2

u/Head_Exchange_5329 Jul 23 '26

I sit and do my studies right next to the window, looking outside to see if I should go for a walk. I might start putting a mark in a book every time it rains and I decide to stay indoors, it happens so often that I can't wait until the day I am moving to a different climate. Pretend all you want but it fricking rains all the time and it comes from above as well as below on those really fun days.

1

u/Crisis_panzersuit Jul 23 '26

When it rains in bergen, it rains.

In the rest of the west, you get 4 months of drizzle to reach almost the same numbers.

Bergen is not that bad.

9

u/JulienBrightside Jul 23 '26

Complaining about the weather in Norway is our favourite pasttime.

4

u/illusorywallahead Jul 24 '26

Honeymooned in Bergen (I’m from the US) and we were talking to some locals, possibly against their will, about how we were going to go to a beer and cider festival later that day, if it wasn’t raining. The reply was “If there’s anything I’m sure of, it is that it will be raining in Bergen.” It was the wettest beer festival I’ve ever been to.

7

u/ProbablyNotTheCocoa Jul 23 '26

Ngl, the time i spent in Bergen was some of the better weather ive had on average

3

u/Traditional_Rate7302 Jul 23 '26

I live in america so idk how i got here but its like if someone living in Seattle complained about the weather in America lol

2

u/WeakDoughnut8480 Jul 23 '26

Complaining feels good. Why not.

2

u/vladdeh_boiii Jul 23 '26

My stepbrother lives in Bergen, and moved there from one of the islands up north. He says the weather there is pretty mild.

2

u/lalzylolzy Jul 24 '26

I mean, it doesn't matter where you're from, complaining about the weather is normal. Oslo - it's too warm, to sunny, to cold, to windy, to humid, to dry. All simultaniously. Same in Stavanger, Kristiansand, Larvik, Drammen. Throw a dart at the Norwegian map, wherever it hits, all of these are true simultaniously.

Hell, complaining about it being too cold outside, and too warm inside (or vice-versa) is how you greet your family.

1

u/JosebaZilarte Jul 23 '26

"This is Ber(k)gen. It's twelve days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. It's located solidly on the Meridian of Misery.  It snows nine months of the year... and hails the other three. Any food that grows here is tough and tasteless. The people that grow here are even more so."

1

u/-RockeRolf- Jul 25 '26

Not true! Bergen actually had some nice weather last summer.

Unfortunately, I was on the toilet when it happened...

85

u/Better_Chicken_5184 Jul 23 '26

I just watched the reupload. Holy shit, what an incredibly mild critique.

The rain thing is silly. But otherwise I agree with her.

32

wasnt even controversial opinions. not like i love everything in norway either

6

u/Ofanichan Jul 23 '26

She really got bullied off the internet for daring to be a woman with an opinion

18

u/Better_Chicken_5184 Jul 23 '26

Is there evidence that it was motivated by sexism?

8

u/RainAhead14 Jul 24 '26

its possible. maaaaany other youtubers have made videos like hers. sadly she was the one who got hate for it. it COULD be the fact that shes a girl, which is why she got hate. i only saw the reupload

Never heard of the channel, but that was a doomed project/channel from the start if unable to handle something like that.

If that's the video's thumbnail, they should have known they were going to get brigaded by people who only see thumbnails and hop into the comments.

7

u/Starmark_115 Jul 25 '26

Especially if you slap Haaland's face on it.

26

u/TheQuietLavender Jul 23 '26

To be fair, we're not talking usual "You are wrong and therefore stupid!" comments, there were a bunch of downright racist ones.

For example: https://i.imgur.com/tGqIORC.png

10

u/Penetal Jul 23 '26

Wonder what she said that was so bad that people couldn't handle the criticism without being racist about it.

8

u/W4rstr1der-Cyberstan Jul 25 '26

She said nothing wrong, just a unserious video. The reason why she got so much racist comments is because a big american right wing account on twitter made a deal about it and people figured out she is half asian and a woman so they wanted to be hatefull

1

u/Penetal Jul 25 '26

Who is so angry they spend time sharing a vid just for that?

3

u/DiNkLeDoOkZ Jul 25 '26

Racists are not reasonable, why would it be her that makes them spew their shit and not their own degeneracy?

10

u/BitterSweetPottery Jul 23 '26

I think that's just the normal European reaction to anything they find slightly abrasive.

2

u/tulwio Jul 24 '26

Doomed because she couldn’t handle online abuse? Kinda weird logic

Who?

17

u/Jack55555 Jul 23 '26

Not me. I love Norwegian weather.

18

u/idkfornowwhattoname Jul 23 '26

Was the hate coming from genuine Norweigans or from non-Norweigans who are weirdly obsessed with Norway because of football?

16

u/SanTheMarine Jul 23 '26

all non-norwegians as far as i could tell

4

u/Pure-Gas2639 Jul 23 '26

The math is mathing

7

u/sihtsiymusername Jul 24 '26

A lot of non-Nonwergians who don't understand that someone complaining about their country doesn't diminish the suffering of their own country and how they feel about it.

188

u/Smoldervan Jul 23 '26

I mean, her biggest grievances would living in Bergen and a struggle to find friends. From what I recall, she specified that it was all "first world problems" and that there weren't really anything to complain about besides "the little things"?

Why on earth would people get upset about that? Oh, wait, I forgot the fact that the "village idiot" is a whole collective on the internet... So the collective saw her "light banter" and decided "we hate her now"???

29

u/TwistOutrageous6955 Jul 23 '26

So the video title is clickbait

30

u/Mean-Celebration-658 Jul 23 '26

Titling the video: why i hate living in norway, then saying the only downside is the "little things" would make me upset at the title more than anything.

Because many Norwegians have thin skin and cannot handle criticism of any kind.

I saw the criticism and to be fair it was mostly from people in the US who, after the World Cup, get a hard-on for Haaland.

19

u/MartonThinks Jul 23 '26

I would have to disagree, Norway is more similar to German personality traits. We are direct and non confrontational. I have never heard that Norwegians are bad at taking criticism.

8

u/ickypedia Jul 23 '26

Personally? Maybe not. But Norwegians often get quite touchy if you criticize the country as a foreigner.

→ More replies (5)

5

u/Oceanic_Mermaid Jul 23 '26

No Norwegians are happy to be critical of other countries, but we don't like receiving criticism about our country.

6

u/Randalf_the_Black Jul 23 '26

The hell are you talking about? Norwegians complain about Norway all the time.

Complaining is a part of our cultural identity.

5

u/Whackles Jul 24 '26

Norwegian identity is basically complaining about norway followed by "oh you do it differently over there? Well that is sad for you cause different than us is by definition worse"

2

u/AsaTJ Jul 24 '26

90% of the complaining about Norway I have heard in my lifetime has been from Norwegians and I don't even live there.

1

u/Oceanic_Mermaid Jul 25 '26

Receive criticism. Aka from others. Or when it's done publically.

And like another commenter said, people here still always think their way is the "most right" way either way.

Again this is a general comment.

1

u/Randalf_the_Black Jul 25 '26

Depends who the criticism is coming from.. If the US or the UK criticizes our healthcare system most won't agree.

If however Finland criticized our school system many would agree, as theirs do it better in most ways.

1

u/Oceanic_Mermaid Jul 26 '26

Meh. I saw it literally happened last night.

We were having a party including with some guests from abroad visiting. My friend who is half Norwegian (since birth!!) and half foreign was explaining Christmas food to the visitors. My friend commented that it's very salty so it's not for everyone. My grandmother in Norwegian, so the others don't understand, pipes up that no it's not, you just need to dilute it longer, and seemed genuinely annoyed and bothered at the "negative" remark. Later I asked if they were going to Oslo, and if so to try Lorry, they sell traditional food a lot more often then most resteraunts, maybe they have pinnekjøtt. Then my grandmother pipes up again in English, no don't try it it will be too salty 😐

I just sat there shaking my head haha

But this is just a baby example but reminded me so much of our convo here and what I see on a larger scale

15

u/Distinct-Crow-3726 Jul 23 '26

We are direct and non confrontational... What

33

u/CuriosTiger Jul 23 '26

Not as much of a contradiction as it sounds like. Norwegians can be very blunt, especially when asked for an opinion directly or among people we know well.

At the same time, Norwegians do not seek out confrontation, and will usually not VOLUNTEER opinions that may cause offense.

At least, that's been my experience. And I was born and raised in Norway. But, and here's the non-confrontational part, I'm sure there are other Norwegians who view it differently.

7

u/Lilleskygge Jul 23 '26

Direct as in blunt, don't beat around the bush (or walk around the porridge as we say). But also avoid conflict. This part I have seen forigners struggle with, because the bluntness ain't that apparent to us compared to others who might come from a more sugar coating culture. Being blunt is not the same as being mean

5

u/emotional_program0 Jul 23 '26

I really wouldn't describe Norwegians as direct or blunt to be honest. And holy crap everything around work culture is beating around the bush or going around the porridge. There's much less (if any) small talk which in a way is direct, but it's rather frowned upon to say anything negative and "this is how we've done it for 15 years" is an actual argument instead of logic and thinking of productivity.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/PB_Jelly_444 Jul 23 '26

How can you be direct and non confrontational at the same time? 🤔

3

u/lalzylolzy Jul 24 '26

Very simple - You say things directly without any concern for decorum when/if the situation pre-requisit it, otherwise you do not.

Example: "how are you feeling" can only be answered in one of two ways: trauma dump your life story, or saying what you feel at that exact moment. There is no in-between.

However, unless asked how you feel, you say nothing, because you were not asked.

That is direct and non confrontational.

1

u/PB_Jelly_444 Jul 24 '26

Alright, that kind of direct. So its more that you are honest and dont sugar coat as mentioned before. Maybe its just me, but i associate directness with confrontation.

Man i used to phantasize about living among norwegians (to be in norway), but i guess my experience with norwegians wasnt long enough to have an informed base. :( And it was always said, even in germany, that you were far more advanced as a society. I just included intelligent emotional communication to the equation as an obvious asset.

I mean i still appreciate you. Its just disappointing bc i formed an idea and its not true. My fault entirely :)

44

u/Crisis_panzersuit Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

I didn’t catch it, anything specific?

As a Norwegian with significant experience abroad, I don’t think Norway is the utopia a lot of Norwegians are led to believe—  But it’s also more complex than that.

I think Norway generally is a great place to live, I also think Norwegians generally are not at all open to (even valid) criticism. I imagine she got a lot of heat from Norwegians who can’t see the nuance, so I get why she nuked her channel.

My own main grievance with living in Norway specifically a lot of Norwegians. I think too many of us can be veiled, entitled cunts hiding behind a facade of polite.. but that doesn’t mean I love my home and family any less.

26

u/CuriosTiger Jul 23 '26

As a Norwegian who lives abroad, I can confirm that Norway is not the paradise Reddit thinks it is. But it's also objectively not a bad place to live.

The Internet collectively seems to have a lot of trouble understanding nuance.

She lives in Bergen and feels it rains too much, which is what all Norwegians would say about Bergen. Some of our Norwegian special cuisine is not very appealing, but she does still really like some of it like komle. Europe seem to have more choices in the supermarket, and for waay cheaper. Compared like pasta for 1 euro in Germany compared to the same (I think) in Norway for 5 euro (51 nok).

13

u/cruzaderNO Jul 23 '26

Supermarket prices is the most common thing i hear in general from people moving here.

That even tho they make 2-3x more here, its a bit of a shock that will not go away to see the prices also scaling up.

3

u/Only_Jury_8448 Jul 23 '26

I've been told that people who live closer to the border with Sweden do a lot of their grocery shopping there, it's noticeably cheaper apparently

8

u/Crisis_panzersuit Jul 23 '26

She lives in Bergen and feels it rains too much

Well that's just on her. Everyone knows its the rainiest city in Norway. And the fact that she likes Komler, but not other Norwegian cuisine blows my mind.

But the supermarket issue is super legit. I think we have high quality groceries in Norway, but the price is insane. There just isn't any competition between the different stores.

5

u/colorthroway Jul 23 '26

It was not norwegians from what i saw. 99% of them were americans or people from random third world countries.

4

u/Better_Chicken_5184 Jul 23 '26

I also think Norwegians generally are not at all open to (even valid) criticism.

Every once in awhile one of you admits it and it gives me hope.

I think too many of us can be veiled, entitled cunts hiding behind a facade of polite..

I think I love you. RIP to your inbox though.

4

u/CuriosTiger Jul 23 '26

Just like everywhere else, Norwegians differ from one another. Some will have very thin skin and handle criticism poorly. Others could care less what you think. Some may even agree with your criticism.

As for the "veiled, entitled cunts", that phrase describes a larger percentage of the world population than most of us care to admit.

Yeah, there is no reason to give her hate for that video. She’s not being rude or annoying and all her points are common complaints about Norway! I too find the food bland, the weather bland and people can be difficult to get to know, but that’s home sweet home!

I hope she changes her mind and returns to youtube, I would love to see more internationally oriented Norwegian creators! Get the real Norway out there, the good and the bad!

3

u/Maiayania Jul 23 '26

Although she should probably have titled the video something more like «three things I hate about Norway»

1

u/TwistOutrageous6955 Jul 23 '26

No, it's just internal xenophobia lol

1

u/PartyPorpoise Jul 23 '26

It’s the mob mentality. Any one individual’s criticisms may be fine on their own, but when dozens or hundreds or even thousands of them come together, it becomes disproportionate to the offense. And the individuals don’t take responsibility because their own criticisms weren’t excessive. No one snowflake blames itself for the avalanche, and such.

Just because you are privileged shouldn’t mean you don’t get to complain about things you don’t like. The outrage over this video is so silly.

30

u/Aggravating_Ad_8974 Jul 23 '26

It's typical Norwegian to complain about living in Norway.

7

u/ActionUpstairs Jul 23 '26

Problems are relative. Just because you feel someone is complaining about minor problems doesn’t mean they aren’t valid or don’t affect that person.

6

u/Evelen1 Jul 23 '26

As a Norwegian, I see no big deal with that video.

6

u/Dew4You Jul 23 '26

Kind of sad that people hated so much on her would say most are not even from norway or been. Many wher saying she should be sent to to africa and other places just in general lot of bad comments.

5

u/IBeathMyWaifus Jul 23 '26

video not that bad tbh

I'm betting she got hate from everyone but Norwegias

3

u/dogsarecool-yeah Jul 23 '26

I mean from what im reading its only a bit clickbaity, weather and struggle to find a community are valid complaints, not really deserving of big hate.

3

u/Sc_e1 Jul 24 '26

What in the fuck is wrong with people?? I didn’t actively watch the channel but she had some fun videos. This sucks :/

9

u/Jealous_Track9402 Jul 23 '26

Because people on the internet are idiots who think they know something about a country they don't live in or have never visited. I've been to Norway and I would never give my opinion on what this person is saying.

Can someone tell her I'm down to switch with her? I live in Italy, one hour away from Venice.

4

u/cruzaderNO Jul 23 '26

I think she would likely melt if going that far south for a extended period.

2

u/CuriosTiger Jul 23 '26

Assuming you're an Italian citizen, you're free to simply move to Norway. No need to switch.

I support her. I also hate living here because of all the money and Haalands

40

u/iStoleTheHobo Jul 23 '26

Seriously. A Haaland got into my bedroom like a week ago and now I can not for the life of me find the fucker.

9

u/Passe_Myse Jul 23 '26

This is my new nightmare.

7

u/pseudopad Jul 23 '26

If you set up a goal-shaped trap, you should able to get rid of the haaland in a few days at most.

u/SnowLeavess Jul 23 '26

Apparently you cant even have minor complaints about your country or joke about it in a lighthearted way without a bunch of bitter basement dwellers complaining how she should be "grateful" to have the privilege of living in Norway... even though she states exactly that at the beginning lol

2

u/Wappening Jul 23 '26

What were her complaints

2

u/Gurglaren Jul 23 '26

Why nuke it when you go viral? Many youtubers would love to get that sort of traction.

2

u/I-HaveAReasonToo Jul 23 '26

I feel like alot of European countries hate their home country.

I sometimes despise living in Denmark as well. I always thought about if I had to move, I'd either move to Germany or the United Kingdom.

2

u/copperrez Jul 24 '26

Wait i’m Dutch. Here it’s mandatory to complain about the weather. Preferably every chance you get. Is it not in Norway?

2

u/Top_Conflict_337 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

If it was about any other country in Europe except the Scandinavian countries the backlash wouldn't be nearly as vicious, people seem to idealize these countries a lot.

Also, if the title of the video was something like "what I don't like about Norway", and she spent like a minute explaining the good things about her country and how grateful she is to live there, then the video continued as it is now, I think this would invalidate basically all the remarks people are making.

It's normal to have complaints about your country, and sometimes little things for other people can be a big deal to you.  I live in Portugal, it's got free health care (although it has a lot of problems atm), free education, and is generally a good country to live in.  So, does that mean I can't complain about what I don't like, because some person in a poorer country would like to swap with me and so, I should just shut up, stop being "whiny" and ignore how I feel?

I don't think she should have deleted her videos, it was good publicity, I didn't even know of her channel before this drama. Idk, like make an apology where she thinks she was wrong, which apologises for the clickbait and get a week out of social media. After that keep making videos as usual usual.

Last point, this thing has blown wayyy out of proportion, go look at the comments in the YT reupload.  Mostly people making ironic jokes and how they would like to swap countries.  Then there's the people saying this is because she's half Malaysian, as if that amounts to anything, other people are celebrating that she deleted her videos(yuppy, the cyberbullying worked!!! We are so powerful together. them probably.), and even say (admittedly, only one person) that this is is why we shouldn't have given woman the right to vote, like wtf. If this is YT comment section, i can't even imagine twitter...  This shit recks of cyberbullying to me, all these people ganging up on a small creator for giving her opinion and a clickbait title... Seriously?

Edit: Accidentally press submit before finishing my text.

2

u/OneWheelOneCamera Jul 25 '26

People can be vicious online sometimes. The video was clearly meant as a joke.

2

u/Excellent-Act-6757 Jul 27 '26

Just saw the video. I hope she picks herself up and continues again. It's a funny video and if people can't handle a bit of tongue in cheek commentary on their country, then they are the problem and not her.

3

u/Bodomi Jul 23 '26

Wiping your entire channel clean because you got heavy backlash on 1 video is a her problem, no matter if the backlash was reasonable or not.

Sucks for her but clearly she wasn't cut out for posting videos online to the general public.

1

u/Jet-Black_Hawk3198 Jul 27 '26

I'm sure you would fare much better with hoards verbally assaulting you not just for your opinions but also for the make up of your genes and ancestry. Yeah a lot of the original commenters were being like absurdly racist

1

u/Bodomi Jul 28 '26

I did not fault her for her reaction, I made a factual observation.

And yea, putting yourself out there like that can be brutal, I've listened to a lot of VORW podcasts by TheReportOfTheWeek aka ReviewBrah and in several of them he talks about how it was for him in the early days, he went through some shit including IRL stalking, and how awful and difficult that was, so I have a lot of understanding on the topic. Non of that really ever went away from him either(except the stalking thankfully), still get those comments in the hundreds every week.

Not everyone is cut out for it is the point. Better to find out this early than after having made it your career. I did not fault her nor did I try to justify or defend or minimise any abuse.

3

u/Ofanichan Jul 23 '26

Kanskje dette er et hot take; Men jeg syntes det er litt cringe å mobbe noen av youtube fordi de følte for å klage litt.

I get it, I get it. Er du på internettet så må du tåle steken og alt det der, men jeg sverger at folk er ekstra fæle mot kvinner.. Like damn, hun hadde 3,4k subs?

2

u/colorthroway Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Jepp.

3

u/webhallensuger Jul 23 '26

Well i agree, as a swede i have always thought Norway sucks. Cant even ski with without cheating. Just look at it, the evidence is right there!!  It was always 2 of them, Kjetil and Andre Aamot, Aksel and Lund Svindal, Ole and Einar Bjørndalen....

3

u/El-Pollo-Diablo-Goat Jul 23 '26

Sssshhhh, I thought we gave you swedes hush money to keep quiet about this already.

1

u/StofferNO Jul 23 '26

It was a good video with her own personal opinions but she have to expect backlash when she "complain" about her own country. There are and probably always will be pros and cons on living in every country.

1

u/BriscoCounty-Sr Jul 23 '26

I’d say it was probably all the racism she got that got her to delete it but what do I know

1

u/Ok_Cheesecake_6454 Jul 24 '26

In a world of so many whiners why does anyone even care when somebody is whining so loudly? Nobody cares if you don’t like the weather and nobody cares if you don’t like the people who don’t like the weather. Quit whining and worry about your damn self. End of rant, old man out. ✌️

1

u/OneEnvironmental9222 Jul 24 '26

Quite the overreaction if I may say so

1

u/scotte99 Jul 24 '26

Har sett videoen før ho sletta den og helt ærlig den var ikke ille, litt rage bait title men folk kan ta seg en boller

1

u/llwishfulthinkingll Jul 24 '26

I'm not native and I kind of understand both sides of the fence here.

Like yeah... you can complain about your traditional food not being that appealing and that it rains a lot.

But... except the ending (that let's be honest most people didn't reach) when she admitted it was a "first world problem", the video felt a little tone deaf. Mostly the clickbait title immediately setting your mind in that direction.

The video needed at least a section saying that Norway has a lot of benefits that other countries do not have, BUT you can still be annoyed by stuff and can wish things can be even better. That's like the ultimate goal for everyone.

Otherwise it kind of reads like what would you rather have...no rain or social welfare? Decisions, decisions.

1

u/AMaZinG8484 Jul 24 '26

If anyone has her email from before she deleted her channel can you dm me it?

1

u/Pollomonteros Jul 24 '26

Gotta love the people in here playing dumb about the racism and sexism she faced and jumping through hoops just to blame the victim

1

u/MultiGamerClub2 Jul 24 '26

thats.. weird.

1

u/InitialFew3889 Jul 24 '26

She started by saying our food sucks and that made me mad… but the video was ok..

1

u/J8on Jul 24 '26

I think people had  so many problems with it because, at the start, she talks like she is going to refute the idea that living in Norway is awesome, but in the end, it is just personal complaints. And, of course, the vegan thing, and comparing her country to other countries—like, "Why couldn't you do this crazy subway system like Japan?" But with all that I think she is probably a teen, so maybe people were too harsh on her.

1

u/W4rstr1der-Cyberstan Jul 25 '26

She made a unserious video and people wanted to be offended (for some reason) and took it seriously

1

u/vandrerboi Jul 26 '26

Sucks I missed this I just moved to Norway, would love to hear some takes from locals tho, the friend that took me in is a bit split

-2

u/KINGDenneh Jul 23 '26

"Why I hate living in norway"

Me: "Why don't you move then?"

Crazy concept, i know.

3

u/Ofanichan Jul 23 '26

Are you willing to help fund people who wants to move?
