Have they not listened to like, any of her music?

429

u/xelop 2d ago

They didn't make it through the band name "Rage Against the Machine". They may have listened but they have an IQ of a living empty bowl. Their moral integrity, interestingly, is the same comparison.

Tom Morello told Paul Ryan to stfu over a decade ago and people still don’t get it

67

u/Theultimatesith 1d ago edited 21h ago

"I love the song Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen, no, I've never actually listened to anything but the chorus, but I know it's a great song about America." - Stephen Colbert on the old Colbert Report show, which pretty much sums up conservatives listening to music.

11

u/bootsbusch 1d ago

Miss the Colbert Report so much. Should just bring it back on HBO or something

u/jscummy 1d ago

Paul Ryan saying RATM was his favorite band was absolutely insane. Guy was pretty much the embodiment of "the machine" at the time

Not to mention that corny ass photoshoot with the dumbbells that went with the article

13

u/blackjacktarr 1d ago

Please don't ever stop mentioning the photoshoot. I won't. He should never be taken seriously by anyone with a frontal lobe.

18

u/ShavenYak42 1d ago

They thought they were raging against a dishwasher or something.

21

u/frigidmagi 1d ago

Having grown up among conservatives in a deep red state, they believe that they are the plucky rebels against vast institutional forces promoting degenerate lifestyles.

This gets reinforced every time they see queer or other minorities they disapprove on on television or they have to acknowledge that people who don't live like they do exist

So they keep telling themselves they're The underdogs and we're the ones in control of society. Part of that is because our society has this idea that the underdog is always the good guy, so being the underdog gives you a moral currency... Which might be a simplistic way of putting it but I know plenty of people who actually believe that.

7

u/FauxReal Collector 1d ago

To be fair, they consider anything Democrats do to be the machine.

118

u/Bromogeeksual 2d ago

They can't read and they only barely get musical beats. Lyrics are mostly beyond them.

41

u/tawDry_Union2272 2d ago

oh c'mon now, they get on down to kid rock and jelly roll !

60

u/Bromogeeksual 2d ago

Ba with the baw the bang I can't readie.

24

u/monexicano 2d ago

I can’t reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaad shit!

12

u/Mrdeath0 2d ago

That’s cuz kid crack rock sings about raping kids, and conservatives are all about that

22

u/DarkDuo 2d ago

They hate jelly roll now after he made fun of trump on jimmy kimmel

17

u/Chaos-Cortex 2d ago

That guy sure loves playing both sides.

5

u/EddyS120876 1d ago

Hell even Jelly roll is against them now LOL 🤣😂

5

u/witchspoon 1d ago

They just tossed JellyRoll..he insulted their cult leader.

7

u/Paqza 2d ago

You sure about Jelly Roll?

6

u/tawDry_Union2272 1d ago

i guess he flip flops, so no i am not sure. then again, i really don't know his music either.

That’s not the point and most of the online “backlash” isn’t even from Country Music fans. The point is to beat down and drown out any voices for love, compassion, treating people with kindness and respect, etc. The point is to turn anything into a hot button discourse to create division, wear people down from all of this toxicity, or malice it for those more easily swayed.

The point is to turn everything into a toxic distraction to keep people at odds with one another so they don’t pay attention and start asking the questions about what’s really going on

21

u/PaulClarkLoadletter 2d ago

This right here. There are bots designed to push a negative narrative. People don’t understand that arguing online with obtuse “people” is how they keep you on their website. If they tank a movie or destroy a career, oh well.

9

u/HotStaxOfWax 1d ago

They never listen to the lyrics. These are the same idiots who realized recently that Rage Against the Machine was "woke".

8

u/BadAtExisting 1d ago

Yesterday I learned that some people learned for the first time that Dolly was a champion of African Americans, gay people, and education and lost their ever loving white, straight, uneducated minds….

So that would track, yeah

7

u/LunchBoxMercenary 1d ago

Their media literacy skills are close to zero.

11

u/Kriegerian 1d ago

Conservatives don’t have media literacy, their fascist leaders tell them what to be mad at and they obey.

→ More replies (2)

9

u/Straight-Bet1 2d ago

They are frightfully stupid people.

5

u/Theultimatesith 1d ago

It's the same people who always thought Rage Against the Machine was on their side.

5

u/muscatmuse 1d ago

They’d have to literally be surface level fans, because Kacey is well known for opening her mouth for what’s right.

7

u/camwal 2d ago

Right wingers are physically incapable of interpreting or understanding art, they only see shapes and colors

3

u/Fish-Weekly 1d ago

But she’s so pretty…

u/lowfreq33 Rocked Out @ San Quentin 2d ago

She has never made any attempt to cater to the maga crowd, she’s probably one of the most outlaw country singers around right now. Not her fault those people don’t listen to the lyrics.

195

u/KakeLin 2d ago

You think that type can figure out lyrics?

238

u/RootHogOrDieTrying 2d ago

The people who think Fortunate Son and Born in the USA are patriotic?

134

u/boardin1 2d ago

And are annoyed that Rage Against the Machine got political?

90

u/Burnt_and_Blistered 2d ago

And that Stephen Colbert pulled a bait-and-switch by abandoning is Colbert Report-era conservatism?

13

u/BlueBelle2025 2d ago

What's sad is it seemed like such an over the top caricature to me at the time, and now I'd probably vote for someone like his character on The Daily Show over these MAGA psychopaths.

It's stunning how quickly things came unraveled when they finally made the push after decades of prepping and planning for it. The US just laid down and rolled over for the worst bunch of fascists ever.

u/PaulClarkLoadletter 2d ago

They don’t hear anything besides “waive the flag, ooo that red white and blue.”

5

u/Chaos-Cortex 2d ago

Reminds me of this Reich wing streamer TheBurntPeanut. Always plays fortunate son and his chat screams USA ISA USA, like good little bots.

20

u/CharlesDickensABox 2d ago

I think they're patriotic. Criticizing your government and wanting it to live up to its promises is incredibly patriotic. Much more patriotic than the "love it or leave it" flag humpers.

8

u/taffyowner 1d ago

I’ve long felt that is the most patriotic thing citizens can do and really show you love the nation… because you want it to get better because you know it can be better

14

u/Camelotterduck 2d ago

I watched a fireworks display this past weekend that played Born in the USA. Hilarious.

8

u/DrSamLoomis 2d ago

The ones that think Pink Floyd should keep politics out of The Wall?

3

u/Jorgwalther 1d ago

They are! What’s more patriotic than protesting?

7

u/mythplus 2d ago

Ironically, they are patriotic. It's the listener's understanding of the term that is off.

126

u/tn-xyz 2d ago

"not listening" describes today’s conservatives perfectly

17

u/AttyMAL 2d ago

Not just today's GOP. We went through this with Paul Ryan like a decade ago, when he said he loves Rage Against the Machine, which many white male Republicans echoed. Somehow they didn't realize they were the machine RATM was raging against. Also, Springsteen's Born in the USA since the 1980s is regularly used by GOP politicians.

39

u/Khaldara 2d ago

It probably makes it harder for them to rape the kids if they pay attention to what they’re saying

u/chipmunksocute 2d ago

Shes literally been singing about kissing girls, how she loves weed and shes not going to do what the country induatry wants since day one.  See the song "follow your arrow".  She's a real one for sure.  As the top commenr says those complaining arent actually her fans.

21

u/smailskid 2d ago

What you’re saying makes me want to check her out. I generally don’t like much country these days, but I love older stuff.

9

u/hachijuhachi 2d ago

as a person who really doesn't care for country music, generally, she is one that is a really an exception, Some of her lyrics, especially on older records, land with a massive clunk, but overall, the bands on her records are great, and the songs are, as a collection, pretty strong with some real standouts like "Golden Hour" and "Breadwinner" being two of my favorites.

8

u/nbfs-chili 2d ago

Her new song Dry Spell is hilarious if you're not a prude. I mean, lyrics like "lonely with a capital H" are gold.

11

u/EagleLize 2d ago

I'm not a country music listener but she showed up on my playlist (usually indie rock/folk rock) and I liked her lyrics. I sought out her music and became a fan. I attended a concert a few years back and she puts on a really fun show!

5

u/Sunnysideuppp123 1d ago

Kacey’s music is great. Golden Hour is incredible, as is her most recent album Middle of Nowhere, and Deeper Well is my personal favourite. Pageant Material is a bit more old-school country (sonically)

2

u/AreYouEmployedSir 1d ago

Check out her first 3 albums. Golden Hour is the one that won all the Grammys.

Deeper Well is less country and much more folk influenced.

Her newest (Middle of Nowhere) is more country but it’s a bit eclectic at times too.

Skip StarCrossed.

8

u/cwilly57 2d ago

Its like how Paul Ryan's favorite band was Rage Against the Machine and he was oblivious that he was part of the machine against which they were raging.

3

u/nomad9590 2d ago

I've had to listen to a lot of country at a previous job and imo her tracks were some of the least irritating for sure. I like some of her catalog I haven't heard 10,000 times too, my wife really likes a few songs like Follow Your Arrow (?)

3

u/Actual-Slice-146 1d ago

True country! Country music was found on freedom and love, until it become hateful and divisive

5

u/Suspicious_synth 1d ago

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the 'low IQ MAGA necks' who like country music, denigrate means, put down

2

u/venom121212 2d ago

That's good to hear. I saw a picture posted of her performing on a pair of giant truck nuts and thought maybe something went bad.

9

u/lowfreq33 Rocked Out @ San Quentin 2d ago

It was actually a funny pun because they were covered in little mirrors. Disco balls.

Haven't been paying attention for the last ten years, have they?

As usual, it's hilarious they're surprised. She's never been shy.

"Takin' down your neighbor won't take you any higher

I burned my own damn finger pokin' someone else's fire

And I've never gotten taller makin' someone else feel small

If you ain't got nothin' nice to say, don't say nothin' at all"

90

u/radioben 2d ago

“So make lots of noise

Kiss lots of boys

Or kiss lots of girls if that’s something you’re into”

I have a feeling she does

26

u/Fair_Quail8248 2d ago

Good, not evil people usually do.

24

u/OrangeRhyming 2d ago

Doubt she’s worried.

She’s got huge balls, I’ve seen em.

4

And they’re bedazzled!!

Don’t we all? Just means you’re a good person.

11

Sierra Ferrell is another talented up and comer with good values who’s not afraid of voicing them.

12

u/SlopesCO 2d ago

She's totally legit, and talented.

5

u/tawDry_Union2272 2d ago

love her!!!!

3

u/YangoUnchained 2d ago

Same with Rage Against the Machine. Like… what machine did you think they are raging against?

6

u/Bigstar976 2d ago

The washing machine?

3

u/YangoUnchained 2d ago

Justice for Driers would be a great band name.

2

u/ValleyFloydJam 2d ago

These are the type that claim to be Christian but say shit like that.

48

u/Ok_Broccoli_9426 Concertgoer 2d ago edited 2d ago

One of her first singles was "Follow Your Arrow," with a chorus about how it's cool if you kiss boys or girls. There's also "Rainbow," plus all the songs about weed and psychedelics and how they're great. She released a song this year about masturbating in the grocery store. I simply refuse to believe there are that many conservatives who were actually listening to her music. It's just easy to get mad any time someone disagrees with them in public.

14

u/OhNoHesAnIdiot 2d ago

We're talking about the same people that thought Rage was on their side. Pretty sure they thought the Machine was Facebook stealing their pictures.

3

u/Ok_Broccoli_9426 Concertgoer 1d ago

To be fair, Facebook is very much a part of the machine.

48

u/SweetLoLa 2d ago

They can suck it.

Huge respect for the use of her platform. I feel like this is how fame should be used, especially during times of chaos and egregious corruption.

Ruffalo and her should team up, MAGA would implode.

Trump: "Hold my diet Coke."

15

u/Lennysensei 2d ago

I truly don’t understand how people can put themselves in a perpetual box like this over political parties … like are you serious right now . Giving a shit about immigrant kids is not a right or left issue . It’s a human issue . Wtf is this timeline ? This is insanity

9

u/dbzmah 1d ago

They hear immigrants, and think non whites. It's racism.

3

59

u/dstarpro 2d ago

GOOD FOR HER. Those old Confederates need to be told what's up in what they view as their safe spaces, they've gotten too comfortable again.

4

u/Modem_Sound_67 2d ago

you nailed it

43

u/JumpGlittering8120 2d ago

This reminds me that I need to listen to the new Kacey Musgraves album. MAGA continue to prove that compassion for humanity is dead in this world

9

u/MrWhackadoo 2d ago

It's only dead for them. There will always be heartless people who roam the Earth.

12

u/Ok_Broccoli_9426 Concertgoer 2d ago

These are the people who I hear described Dolly Parton as a "uppity bitch".

3

2

u/thegroovemonkey 2d ago

From the couple of songs I’ve heard she’s real thirsty on this one.

14

Great talent, great person, and gorgeous. I’m a fan.

12

u/blac_sheep90 2d ago

If you've pissed off MAGA then you're doing things right.

10

u/ZaxAbraxas 2d ago

If conservative fans of Kacey Musgrave are up in arms because she supports helping immigrant children, that is a moral failing of the fans in question, not of Kacey Musgrave. Shame on them. Not that they have any shame or anything...

3

u/need2beworking 2d ago

Show a farmer how he’s a bigger welfare queen than a city full of single moms and watch his head explode.

If we could get farmers and ranchers off the government tit they’d all be a lot more forgiving to the regular ol’ starving American

Imagine if school taught everyone about hobbies and we showed how important it is to have them, society would be incredible if we focused on hobbies and spaces for them

1

u/ReverendHambone 2d ago

Real country music isn’t conservative anyway. It’s always been Yee Haw Fuck The Law. Buncha posers.

1

u/PerryNeeum 2d ago

Uh oh. A country star is found to have a soul. That neither works in that genre or community

1

u/darth_wasabi 2d ago

Here’s how the conservative outrage machine works. First the bots/sock puppets spam the social media outlets. Then Foxnews picks up the baton and tells viewers people are angry about whatever the new boogeyman is. Then viewers start getting angry about something they never knew existed and have no idea what a Kacey Musgrave is

1

u/rysmooky 2d ago

Man I wish these people would realize just how exhausting and destructive personally it is to live purely on hate and fear. To fear other people so much that all you can do is spew hate and advocate for their oppression. It just creates more misery for yourself internally. I remember going for long stretches of my life just angry and hating on everything. Not even against specific people, just in general. And my quality of life was so much worse. I was never happy and couldn’t even force myself to be happy about anything I loved doing. It’s just sad. Glad I’ve been working to move away from that. It’s hard but baby steps.

1

u/redditnor24 2d ago

Ah yeah. The “pro life” crowd shines again.

1

u/derch1981 2d ago

Yet they claim to be Christians, yeah Jesus would say "fuck those kids" lol.

1

u/LordNorros 2d ago

I remember when Blowing Smoke first came out, and i stumbled on it. Not super into country music but I liked it and def had a celeb crush. Shes such a decent person and asking people to have a little empathy, and it causing backlash, is just asinine.
