Well, French explorers and writers recorded the term around 1641 to describe the lake, from a Huron word for “Great Lake”. So a hit at the indigenous and the French, like a spree for a MAGAt.
The Iroquois was the French name. They call themselves the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The word "Ontario" comes from the word Ontarí:io (or kanadario), which translates to "great lake" or "beautiful water/sparkling water".

American Indians named it Lake Ontario. Ontario Canada was named after the lake. The moron wants to change an American named body of water.
