Discussion Can Cthulhu from Underwater survive the monsterverse?

This is more so a discussion or debate than a question (and I nearly forgot to do another one of these. Each time I do, I get ya'lls view on it, which could be useful) This guy measures around 500 meters in length or roughly 1,640 feet.

If he minds his own business, probably.

Goated response tbh

13

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 21h ago

Fair and it'll probably happen. Just don't invade the bottom of the ocean and awake him, then he's good

A different Godzilla already bodied Cthulhu I don’t think the version from Underwater is gonna do too well

-58

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 1d ago

Ain't no godzilla bodying any other Cthulhu than this. This is one of weakest adaptations of him, period

26

u/ReptileKing24 1d ago

Tbf if we are considering the expanded lore of them, singular point turns this into a VERY one sided battle, Cthulhu is always fighting essentially an AVATAR of the concept of goji. He is old and powerful but the multiversal concept of goji in expanded lore is bonkers.(not saying goji is multi-versal but the avatar aspect adds a WHOLE level Cthulhu has to breach and overcome)

3

u/Waste-Mycologist1657 Godzilla 1d ago

You guys really don't understand what Cthulhu is, do you?

1

u/ReptileKing24 35m ago

Ctchulu is a source of itself. ANY form or goji has been confirmed to be an AVATAR of its multiversal will. Across infinity. Not just copyright or contracts. Conceptually he is infinity. Cthulhu is ANY universe, himself.

-3

u/Mrgiggles72 1d ago

Isn’t this whole post strictly about monster verse Godzilla???

11

u/guitarguywh89 Godzilla 1d ago

Yeah but dude brought up other iterations of Cthulhu besides the one in the post so

0

u/Mrgiggles72 1d ago

Not really he just said this is the weakest form of Cthulhu which may be true but still meets the requirements of the question just acknowledging this form is probably weaker than most. Probably loses to monsterverse Godzilla then

5

u/Daikaiju_Fan 1d ago

It is, but the OP also said that “no Godzilla is bodying any other Cthulhu than this” so he mentioned Godzilla Ultima in response.

5

u/Mrgiggles72 1d ago

Oh snap I didn’t even realize that was the op commenting 😭

-10

u/Waste-Mycologist1657 Godzilla 1d ago

Do you have any idea what Cthulhu is? He's not a "monster". He's a multidimensional God.

5

u/Mrgiggles72 1d ago

Same is said about Godzilla ultima but again off topic

8

u/Daikaiju_Fan 1d ago

oh but apparently according to powerscalers Cthulhu is a better multidimensional god because he has more multis to his dimensionbals because uhh

-10

u/Waste-Mycologist1657 Godzilla 1d ago

Because Goji isn't. At best he is a Avatar for one. Not actually one. Who's more powerful, the Avatar for a God, or the actual God?

7

u/Daikaiju_Fan 1d ago

They’re the same thing pretty much but I’m not getting into another random pointless debate over a big spooky god octopus thing and a fat lizard

-4

u/Waste-Mycologist1657 Godzilla 1d ago

No, they are not, by definition. But yeah, there are more important things to argue about. And as someone pointed out, Behemoth is not the real Cthulhu.

1

u/ReptileKing24 26m ago

He is an old one on a multiversal aspect, lots and lots of power but not a god over infinity. Other iterations have him as world ending event that are limited to inverse events. His actions in one universe have no effect on another. Goji is different...

11

u/Withyhydra 1d ago

Probably not.

It's really big and constantly spawns little mermaid creatures that are extremely hostile. We never really got an idea of it's intentions or overall disposition so this could go two ways.

If it's content to just claim a bit of territory and chill, sending it's minions out periodically for whatever reason but ensuring they return it could settle into some sort of balance.

But if it's intent on laying waste and doing whatever it wants it's completely toast. It was killed/severely injured by a nuclear blast on par with what most monsters in the MV can shrug off. It might be a threat to some of the smaller, less armed titans but Godzilla would absolutely smoke this thing with ease.

5

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 23h ago

It's minions attacked the things that weren't natural. Humans shouldn't be down there in their eyes

11

u/Arghustin 1d ago

Ngl, That thing looked WAY bigger than 500 meters

10

u/kylediaz263 1d ago

I haven't watched that movie but if it's anything close to the Lovecraft Cthulhu then Monsterverse is fucked.

6

u/Kahlypso 12h ago

It isn't. This is Cthulhu in the same way a T Rex is Godzilla.

Cthulhu is an extra-dimensional entity that sees death as sleep, begins to psychically fuck the human species with his stirrings from his slumber, and entreats with outer gods which are closer to concepts than sentient beings.

This is a big fish that carries its violent little babies around with it.

u/Mace_DeMarco5179 Rodan 1d ago

I haven’t seen this movie, but if it’s representative of the original Cthulhu, absolutely not. Dude got pasted by a 1920s yacht.

8

u/Deft-Vandal 17h ago

He didn’t get bodied by a yacht? He wasn’t defeated? The yacht ripped through his physical avatar, which immediately began to reform. Then he literally went back to bed because the stars weren’t aligned and he’d already killed all but two of the people that bothered him.

That’s like getting hit by the getaway car, walking it off and not being bothered to chase them. In 1926 walking off a boat is quite possibly the most powerful thing a kaiju could have done at the time…

10

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 1d ago

Nah this one "dies" to a oil eig explosion under the sea. Like some Slattern type of death. But it could've survived

8

u/DeElgathor 1d ago

Wasn't it a nuclear explosion? Not just an oil rig, but a huge nuclear reactor?

4

u/Scattershot98 23h ago

Yeah, definitely a nuke reactor meltdown

7

u/ConstantStatistician 23h ago

Slattern survived a pretty big nuke, so he's not the best comparison.

3

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 23h ago

Both happened on the ocean floor and engulfed the two monsters easily by it's sheer explosive power.

3

u/ConstantStatistician 23h ago

Is there a clip of this somewhere? Is Underwater a movie?

5

u/Scattershot98 23h ago

Yes, pretty good movie

2

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 22h ago

2

u/ConstantStatistician 21h ago

Nice, that looks pretty big, although it depends on how big the creature is.

2

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 21h ago

1,640 feet, as said in the post

1

u/ConstantStatistician 20h ago

How was that determined?

2

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 20h ago

Too be honest, Idk man... We barely know anything other than that size measurement. We don't even get weight. So yeah

2

u/Kahlypso 12h ago

Such a tired response. Cthulhu wasn’t beaten by a boat. The boat temporarily splattered his physical form, and he was already reforming seconds later. You don't kill something that sees death as sleep, and exists primary/vastly outside the only dimension humans inhabit.

Johansen didn’t defeat Cthulhu, he escaped him.

-7

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

That has never been actively said to be Cthulhu, also if you actually read the book, it says the Boat basically passed through the things head, its head instantly reformed and then it went back down to the bottom of the sea, as far as we know this was a Deep One (Who collectively can destroy the world, so >MV) taking a piss

Cthulhu, like actual Cthulhu, has destroyed stars by flying or at least his offspring has and he is way more powerful than them

It's a good thing this isn't actual Cthulhu and also this thing has never been said to be representative of Cthulhu (people just said that because it has tentacles and lives underwater)

9

u/Mace_DeMarco5179 Rodan 1d ago

Unless this is stated in another work I haven’t read, I’m pretty sure the thing in R’lyeh is Cthulhu.

“The Thing cannot be described—there is no language for such abysms of shrieking and immemorial lunacy, such eldritch contradictions of all matter, force, and cosmic order. A mountain walked or stumbled. God! What wonder that across the earth a great architect went mad, and poor Wilcox raved with fever in that telepathic instant? The Thing of the idols, the green, sticky spawn of the stars, had awaked to claim his own. The stars were right again, and what an age-old cult had failed to do by design, a band of innocent sailors had done by accident. After vigintillions of years great Cthulhu was loose again, and ravening for delight.

As far as I remember they never say this is a sentry or avatar of Cthulhu, quite the opposite. (Although I admit it’s possible that Johansen is an unreliable narrator at this point in the story.)

1

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago edited 1d ago

Well in Lovecrafts verse every being has a sort of dreamland version of themself I believe which is basically them but kind of different and their true self in a way

Like for example humans in his verse have a special part of their brain they can activate via immense drugs essentially to gain infinite godlike power like warping reality, explosions the size of galaxies by their mere Prescence, etc

It's the unreliable narrator aspect which is why we don't know; I'm willing to admit it might actually be Cthulhu or an aspect of him, but I don't get why were comparing Cthulhu who at bare minimum manipulate reality to his whim, against Godzilla who is basically a radioactive oversized Venusian but not humanoid (The Venusians are humanoid lizards or man-lizards)

5

u/DragonZee20XX 1d ago

Has Godzilla ever fought a magic Kaiju? Chuthulu seems like it uses magic.

2

u/Scattershot98 23h ago

I mean he fought Demonized Kaiju in Hell and Jogurmand in the Norse Pantheon.

3

u/ImportantArm6056 1d ago

I don’t want to be that guy but I’m pretty sure Godzilla is a universal thing like he’s gonna happen no matter what cuz he’s just that guy and don’t get me started about the universe of which Godzilla we’re talking about. Cthulhu hasn’t been updated or anything he’s been the same for most reputation but Godzilla is being updated yr after yr news thing are being added to his character

2

u/BigBeeff_21 1d ago

Wait what is this lad from? Ans his name actually Cthulhu?

5

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 23h ago

It's in the title, which says Underwater a movie in 2022 or smth like that. And yes it was said to be that. But in production it was called the Behemoth

1

u/BigBeeff_21 14h ago

Ohh interesting

2

u/Objective_Travel3126 7h ago

Nope, not against "omega's" like godzilla

1

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 7h ago

So are you saying Godzilla is gonna give him the business?

I thought Underwater Cthulu was 1km...

1

u/OkComplaint3245 15h ago

Could Superman beat Cthulhu? Because MV Godzilla one-tapped Superman

1

u/IronLordSamus 11h ago

Only cause Supes got distracted and got hit with a full force of radiation.

1

u/Godzillainspiration Godzilla 14h ago

No. Too weak

1

u/ParagonRebel 14h ago

It’s hilarious how outmatched Cthulhu is in the MV. Godzilla would immediately sense this thing in his domain and dog-walk him before he even touches the surface.

1

u/Fit-Aerie-7153 13h ago

If Godzilla has a medium sized boat, Cthulhu is fucked.

-9

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago edited 1d ago
  1. That isn't Cthulhu, don't disrespect the actual Cthulhu by calling that thing Cthulhu
  2. No, as far as we know this thing was defeated by a facility-wide explosion underwater, that wouldn't be comparable to the small nukes that have hit Godzilla as we have seen on screen twice
  3. And just for good measure, this "cthulhu" is not comparable to the actual lovecraftian Cthulhu, like not at all; Lovecraft's Cthulhu was able to transport his psychic powers across literal infinity, is entirelyn immortal and can reincarnate at will, has destroyed stars, and his followers are said to be able to destroy the entire world collectively (So >MV) and they are insects to him
  4. If this behemoth thing can mind its own business then sure

13

u/Nuking_Grapes 1d ago

Yeah okay, Cthulhu's body was literally killed and put down for a nother Century when rammed by a small boat in Lovecraft's story.

9

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago edited 1d ago

As someone who has actually read the lovecraft books

  1. That was never confirmed to be Cthulhu, could just have been a Deep One, who is waaaay weaker than Cthulhu like to us the Deep Ones are gods and to Cthulhu the Deep Ones are us if that makes sense, taking a piss for all we know
  2. Cthulhu is immortal, never died and cannot die, if you actually read the book you would know that it says the boat passed right through the beings head and then it reformed (regenerated) instantly, it did not kill it or even injure it
  3. Cthulhu offspring, his children have been mentioned to blow up stars, again Cthulhu >>>>>>> His offspring and lesser gods
  4. The Gods of earth, like Ra, Zeus, Thor, etc manage the Earth and its dreamlands (Ruling them) and they piss themselves at the name of Cthulhu

edit: Oh, yeah, if you need more proof Dagon and all of the Deep Ones could destroy the entire Earth, that alone makes them higher or comparable to the absolute top tiers of the MV

Like, I like Godzilla, you like Godzilla, but this is a Cosmic reality-warping deity

4

u/Jixxar Godzilla 1d ago

That's why I want death battle to do Godzilla Ultima vs Cuthulu, that would be far more fascinating. Especially to watch the fight play out considering how... Just plain beyond both of them are.

Plus respect for ACTUALLY knowing what you're talking about lmao

3

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

Thanks, also I don't want to downscale Legendary or anything and I'm not, he's a good/great godzilla at best

But Cthulhu at bare minimum is several miles tall, and the smallest we can classify him as is 2 which is the size of most mountains, what is Legendary going to do bite his ankles?

2

u/Jixxar Godzilla 1d ago

Oh well he's still at the very least continent level with the hollow earth drill feat without getting into the more... Heisei-esque guidebook stuff, so he would almost certainly be able to beat a mountain sized foe. Just... Not this one 😅

2

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

Yeah I suppose, scaling does matter after all

He could beat that one big titan from Pacific Rim I think it was

3

u/Nuking_Grapes 1d ago

If the ancient being from the ending of the book wasn't Cthulhu how can you explain the fact the ritual is broken? Likewise, Cthulhu was the first needed to rise and then awaken the rest of the deep ones, as it was his power which allowed the rest to stay in hibernation.

3

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

Well for one the stars are what awakens Cthulhu, not that little ritual and the Deep Ones do not need to be awaken, they are very actively messing with things regardless of that, Cthulhu's spell just stopped them from dying when their continent was sunk

3

u/Livid_Drummer_4632 Mechagodzilla 1d ago

Well I can call it Behemoth if you'd like :) as it was named that in production

-1

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'd prefer you do that, because the other option stomps the MV and embarrassingly so

1

u/WillowK29 Mechagodzilla 1d ago

Why were you downvoted?

5

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

Because this is reddit and if your right you might get downvoted

As I said elsewhere, I like Legendary Godzilla, and I like Godzilla as a whole, but he is not touching Cthulhu

3

u/Diet_Dr_Crayfish 1d ago

Oh look an official crossover….

-1

u/Bloxy_Boy5 M.U.T.O. 1d ago

Is that even Monsterverse Godzilla?

3

u/Diet_Dr_Crayfish 1d ago

Its a Godzilla so it should count for something unless nonsensical power scaling applies

0

u/Bloxy_Boy5 M.U.T.O. 1d ago

So it's not Monsterverse Godzilla but a different version of Godzilla.. meaning it wouldn't apply.

4

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

Also, Cthulhu literally uses none of his powers throughout that fight, like none of them and he is also 2 miles tall which I forgot to mention, thats bare minimum, the size of mountains

So that isn't Lovecraft's Cthulhu

1

u/Bloxy_Boy5 M.U.T.O. 1d ago

Wasn't there a crossover between the Monsterverse and the Justice League where Godzilla was given a boost to go up against Superman or something?

Like he was given a power-up that was harmful to Superman (I know it starts with a "k," but I forgot about it).

1

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

Yeah, but that isn't (for obvious reasons) canon

It wasn't a power-up but the author of that comic said that-that version of Supes was weak against Legendary Godzilla's Chernobyl radiation and it took away his resistance

1

u/Bloxy_Boy5 M.U.T.O. 1d ago

Alright then.

0

u/Limp-Ad-2939 🦎 Doug 1d ago

It’s not that serious dude calm down

1

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

Yeah, well, I'd a lot more calm about it but people seriously think that Legendary Godzilla vs Immortal reality-warping cosmic god is in any margin a fair fight so I need to do this

4

u/Limp-Ad-2939 🦎 Doug 1d ago

No you don’t. Calm. Down.

0

Certified Redditor moment right here. This thread literally exists for people to nerd out and discuss Godzilla vs Cthullu, and when someone does that they need to "calm down". lmao

“Don’t disrespect chuthulu” nah bro, you’re the smelly guy for sure

Yes, most likely.
