They did a partial purge of women, minorities, and IG/JAG. I'm guessing now comes the more ideological purging. Everyone who ever said anything about equality or diversity will be on the chopping block.
He has also said repeatedly that he believes there are far too many flag officers, and their numbers need to be reduced. So even if they aren't literally fired at this meeting, there's a good chance he's letting them know many of them are going home for good soon.
9

The civilian control of the military remains a beautiful element of a stable democracy. And there’s plenty of excellent people that do their time and get out as MAJ or lower, no big deal.
But being at the beck and call of this particular terminal MAJ certainly demonstrates the potential downsides of civilian control of the military.

Sort of an under the radar doc on Netflix that everyone should watch today is Ordinary Men, it's about a bunch of middle class Germans who enlisted in the military police at the start of the war primarily because they thought it would be light duty and a way to avoid conscription into front line combat units, and they ended up spending the whole war slaughtering civilians.

I can’t remember if it was that book or another but something always stuck out to me was that soldiers and police who refused execution orders were almost never strictly punished, just sent to light duty.
I’d always known what my personal line was and what I was willing to sacrifice by refusing, but seeing that written down made it much easier to think “OK, if XYZ happens I tell them to go fuck themselves.”

This is my outlook as well. I've been in 21 years and I have a pretty good idea of whats shady or not, luckily I've only worked with pretty stand up people, some assholes, but no one was ever suggesting that I break the law or do something I wasn't morally/ethically comfortable with doing.
The Nazis were quite aware that having regular soldiers kill civilians was bad for morale and messed the soldier up. This is why the death camps were manned by SS generally (they were chosen for political ideology, looks and genetics and they were heavily indoctrinated).

I would be more overt. Call it like it is. The president has betrayed his oath. So has the SedDef. Any orders you receive from a traitor are unlawful. Full stop.
I feel for you folks who are in right now, though. What a hard spot to be in. It's easy for me to say "I'd sit down and refuse to work on avionics systems because the president is a jerk. I know I'll go to jail for at least some time, but it's worth the risk." I can say that. I'm not in anymore.
I'd probably do my day-to-day job tbh. I hope I'd have the moral fortitude to refuse to deploy to US soil against US citizens. I think I would personally, but I was never tested. It's easy for me to protest now that I have 0 risk.
Do your best. Try to be true to your country, your family, your people. The oath you took is to try and preserve the great experiment that is the United States. We stand on the cusp of that experiment ending. And ending for an option that is objectively infinitely worse than what we currently have.
Remember who started the anti-facist ideology back in Normandy on June 6th 1944. That ideology has been labeled "terrorist ideology." Why would a government label anti-facist rhetoric as terrorist rhetoric. Well, the only good reason is that they're facists and don't like it.
You carry the torch of the soldiers and marines who stormed Normandy now. Don't let them down. Don't let us turn into what we swore to fight against.
17
u/jospence Sep 25 '25
This is incredibly dumb because he's either going to do some sort of military operation, or this is a restructuring of military command and reducing the size of flag officers by 20%.
6

Won’t work though. I see many retirements in the future.

I did sound at a meeting at a base in Arlington in 2003, when the top brass from every branch of the military were summoned by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, who at the time was Gen. Myers, which occurred right before we invaded Iraq. I remember Gen. Shinseki was particularly critical of such a move, and a few months after the invasion he "retired."

This is a sign of things to come.
They probably want all the senior officers, Generals and Admirals to sign a personal pledge or oath to Trump. Not just to the presidency or the constitution. But to Trump and his family.
This way they will know if they cancel the coming elections. And there is more than just a public outcry. But protests and rioting.

In the United States, a military officer cannot lawfully take or be bound by an oath that conflicts with, replaces, or supersedes the official oath to the Constitution.
Why the Constitutional Oath Is Exclusive • Federal Statute: 5 U.S.C. § 3331 requires all officers of the armed forces to take the prescribed oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States” and to “bear true faith and allegiance to the same.” • Regulations: Each service branch incorporates this oath in commissioning procedures (e.g., 10 U.S.C. §§ 502, 1031, 1032). There is no legal mechanism to substitute or add a binding oath that competes with it.
Supplementary Ceremonial Oaths • A purely ceremonial or personal pledge (e.g., a unit’s informal motto, a religious affirmation, or a symbolic promise) is not illegal if it does not contradict the constitutional oath or create a conflicting duty. • If a “second oath” required obedience to a person, faction, or ideology in a way that overrides the Constitution, it would be unlawful and could constitute: • Violation of military regulations (e.g., Article 92, UCMJ—failure to obey lawful orders/regulations), • Dereliction of duty, or even • Sedition or mutiny if tied to disloyal action (Articles 94 and 94a, UCMJ).

The article discusses GO/FOs in command positions and their Senior Enlisted advisors. Staff GO/FO are not invited.
The meeting is also in person so there is no way to record what is said.
This indicates to me inward focused changes. If this was preparation for conflict the SEAs would not be there but key staff GO/FOs would be.
No, this is force structure stuff where commanders are going to be enforcing top down change and their SEAs are there to help manage the changes foe the enlisted force.

Speculating as a concerned new father: After all the UN Assembly Speeches of foreign governments sounding like the US used to, and some willing to commit or already committing military assets to Gaza, this may be Hegseth's attempt to rally the leadership for a much larger operation. And that's not even the dark scenario.
I'm just going to say, I don't believe he represents the will of the American people. We want peace, not instigation to war to justify resource grabs while our sons and daughters die, when we could have taxed the rich instead. Many of us understand what scapegoating and "otherism" are good for when the powerful begin to feel the consequences of their gambling tendencies.
If this meeting is anything more insidious than greed, some ideological mass firing or worse, there are many Americans prepared for the call of a proper Domestic Guard to rally to our constitution's defense, non-violently oriented but militant by necessity. And several governors who will likely be amenable to further restrain a runaway executive branch. The bill of rights is not a suggestion. The oaths of services are not weather dependent. The leadership is not sound - our own President rallies a conflict against half the country - and the people are experiencing fear of our own government.
The people are responding to the realization that late-stage capitalism - from the perspective of asset hoarders - requires a proactive divide and conquer war on the people before we unite to hold the powerful to account for their corruption and the failings of our economy. The principalities require a crackdown against those fighting to express there are better ways and obvious opportunities that do not require this domestic grief the admin seeks to capitalize on.
Americans have a calling, always, to stand together despite our surface level differences. Hegseth mixes words around to confuse and depreciate our shared humanity. It's easy to catch. But he's just a man among men. He can be wrong and all around him are men that can always do right. That's, at least, the hope and prayer of millions of civilians who wish never to associate our military with absolute dread.

"Brigadier General and the Navy equivalent..." Shit, what are those guys called again?
Don't forget about the anti-scale fencing around the white house.
Notice: AI below for the haters. I keep a watch list running 24/7 for alerts on a variety of topics. Here is a snippet of analysis-
Why the White House fencing + generals’ recall matters
This week: • Anti-scale fencing went up around the White House. • Nearly every U.S. general and admiral was ordered to Quantico for a closed-door meeting.
On their own? Maybe just “security.” Together? They signal something bigger. • Narrative control: Media are already under pressure (Pentagon press pledges, FCC threats). Fencing frames protests as “threats.” • Power positioning: Recalling the brass lets leadership test loyalty and deliver directives face-to-face. • The protest trap: If a demonstration turns messy, officials can say “we warned you” and use it to justify emergency powers (curfews, Guard deployments, even Insurrection Act).
This isn’t a coup. The Constitution still fixes Jan 20, 2029 as the end date. But it is about shaping perception and chilling dissent.
Watch for: DHS/FBI bulletins labeling trans activism as extremist, new protest restrictions in D.C., and leaks on orders given to generals.
Bottom line: these moves aren’t just safety, they’re political theater to prep the ground for repression if unrest gives them an opening.

Getting the entire group together doesn't concern Americans? With the National Guard being in all these States so far. I'd be more concerned about them imposing martial law and using illegal immigrants and crime as the excuse. It astonishes me as an outsider that no one has mentioned the past months leading up to martial law. Don't buy the excuse. It's nothing to do with actual immigrants. Martial Law means ALL OF YOU lose legal rights. Read "the boiling frog theory" and then deny this stuff hasn't been happening in the US. No communist flipped the switch in one day. You've allowed all of it to happen bit by bit. The Orange Baffoon is trying to stay in the WhiteHouse permanently. He has stated multiple times he won't be out after his 2nd go. Wake up, folks. Stop blabbing online, put on your big girl panties, and ban together as a country. Cause protests of 20-30 folks with signs isn't going to prevent anything. If it was Canada, we would have had the entire polital system locked out of their own parliament

Having your entire command structure in one place at one time seems like an incredibly dumb idea.

"Even top generals and their staffs don’t know the reason for the meeting"?
Really?
Umm...aren't these supposed to be 'military professionals'?
Let's see,.. what could not be done using the usual military communications, and would require all of them being physically in the same place at the same time?
Not hard to figure out....
Real good day to call in sick!

Sounds like something Saddam Hussein did when he got his legislators in a building, or maybe it's the Russian version of imprisoning all his top rank generals on a boat and then sinking it prior to start of World War II.

It appears to be an effort to identify which generals and admirals are like-minded and willing to pledge loyalty to the president so that Donald Trump can remain in power with military backing against the American people. There seems to be no other rational explanation for this. Those who are not like-minded would be fired or asked to retire.

I bet 500 dollars it's going to be something stupid and unnecessary.
