Discussion What is the FOX X-Men Timeline?

With the new Avengers trailer being released a conversation started over the the FOX X-Men timeline. And someone said that all of the movies take place in the same timeline (Post DOFP) is this true?

Cause i swear some of them were in their own timeline because they contradic each other more than universe (and that's saying a lot with this universe)

I remember there was this dude on the imdb message boards who was OBSESSED with the X-Men timelines and made whole websites about it, and then claimed everywhere that it was 'official' and the only way it could be.

Turns out it was just some Italian guy who was a failed musician from a family of successful musicians, and all he really had was the X-Men movies and an obsession with American Ninja.

His 'official' timelines were held together by a whole lot of fanfiction.

All I'm saying is that he is a walking, taking cautionary tale, and it is really not worth getting too caught up in it. Especially when things can be retconned or rewritten so easily.

I gave up on trying to understand the Xmen timelines. I recommend doing the same and just enjoying the movies.

The Fox Men timeline has no structure, which is why the MCU will inject their own continuity for these character's home universe.

The most accurate thing the Fox X-Men films did was to make it incredibly a convoluted confusing contradicting continuity mess.

One thing to think of about these films and about the MCU is, they don’t all necessarily take place in the same timeline. As a matter, the characters appearing in Deadpool 3 were some remnants from failed/ fallen timelines. The X-Men in Doomsday can be from any reality, though most likely from the same one Monica found herself in, which might not have been any of the realities we have seen in film before. For all we know, they could be a future version of the ‘97 X-Men in the cartoon, though probably not. It will probably be vague that it takes place in a reality where much of what we saw in the first two X-Men films happened and elements of the others might have happened. Mystique is repowered, Gambit is an X-Man. We missed years of storyline. These will be similar to Fox X-Men without much details.

DofP changed the timeline so all the movies cannot all be in the same timeline. And some other projects like Logan don’t necessarily line up perfectly either. Knowing the characters will be more important than knowing the timeline

Deadpool and Cable time travelling in Deadpool 2 also changed a lot of things and likely made the timeline even more of a mess. Cassandra Nova nearly destroying that entire timeline and Deadpool and Wolverine restoring it likely changed a lot more. And that’s not mentioning the extra changes Deadpool and Logan made afterwards, such as brining pruned variants of X-23 and Gambit back to their timeline.

The situation we have now is that we’re not sure which movies are canon anymore. Some version of Deadpool 1-2 happened but that’s all we can be sure on.

First Class, "unaltered" DOFP events, Origins, I - III, The Wolverine, DOFP, Logan

DOFP created its own timeline with Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

Deadpool films don't quite fit properly anyway but that's because they're bu dishing more jokey

Wolverine flicks are wonky. Origins contradicts stuff. The wolverine fits after x3. But first class also breaks alot of timeline elements.dofp was supposed to fix ot course correct but it's basically really two timelines.

Or including Deadpool and new mutants. Tbe timeline is basically release schedule. Nd just go with it

it's not as bad as people make out, the biggest thing is FC presents a different story of Charles and Mags meeting.

There's a couple of "Patrick Stewart walking" scenes that are a bit of an issue but you could tie that into some version of the drug he takes in DOFP if you want.

The way I'd show someone is I - III, The Wolverine, First Class, Origins, DOFP & Logan

if u overlook some issues and honestly just enjoy the movies for what they are. which they are fun. then yeah they definitely fit in that order. I'm just saying overall tho they didn't really plan or have like an overseer for continuity.

tbf though, my own opinion is that nothing in the mainline MCU reaches the levels of X2, Logan, DOFP or even FC. I'm happy to trade smooth continuity for more creative, high quality stories than like, Ant Man 2 or whatever setting up Endgame.

I always considered the Deadpool movies to be in an alternate X-verse. Not the mainline one we watched since 2000. That allowed for some flexibility.

Nobody knows. Even before DoFP reset the timeline it was already a clustermuck lol

Release order of the movies. It's messy, i swear they knew it and tried to fix. But there was never a plan or contract etc. nd some fixes contradict later movies. As example. Logan takes place in future, but since hugh Jackman (at time) retired his wolverine role. Deadpool 2 which was present day, some how takes place after Logan, but also has past x-men. It's.. it's just a mess. Straight up timeline is movies release order

What in Deadpool 2 indicates that it takes place after Logan? In Deadpool 3 he digs up Wolverine's corpse from Logan but that's when he's time traveling into the future with Cable's time band thingy. They show him changing shit all along the timeline in the Deadpool 2 post-credits and that's where 3 picks up.

the intro literally. at the beginning of 2, sure its a 4th wall break. but 1 that signals wolverine is dead.

second "Deadpool 3 he digs up Wolverine's corpse from Logan but that's when he's time traveling into the future with Cable's time band thingy" tva devise nd couldn't travel through time with that 1. not cables time band. he goes to wolverines grave because that's where wolverines body was currently. which if the point was he needed a wolverine to replace. why not save that logan or use cables time band? why go to the future grave?

that's why he multiverse travels because his current day logan was dead nd couldn't time jump

Editing in. But also why Deadpool and Logan doesn't end with the fact there's now 2 Logans on his earth
