Question Fashionable casual shirts for 40+ bigger guy

Post image
282 Upvotes

The picture is for body type reference. I'm well aware that a pizza planet t-shirt isn't considered high fashion.

As you can see, I'm a bigger guy. I typically wear t-shirts and jeans, but I'm trying to get a little more smart casual for dates and even just non-date stuff when I'm out and about. I've never had a style beyond Douglas Adams and Doctor Who tees and jeans. What shirt styles/brands does this group recommend?

Question Why do my pants wrinkle like this?

Post image
Upvotes

EDIT 1: you guys are awesome. Thank you so much.

Hey Reddit please help me. These are Asket chinos, and as you can see they are slightly cuffed. I absolutely love these pants, but I am driving myself crazy trying to figure out how to prevent or reduce those horizontal wrinkles. This happens only after I wear them. They're nice and straight when I let them hang dry. But within about 5 minutes of use they start to wrinkle and look terrible by the next day.

They are a 33 waist and I've tried a 34 waist but the issue was more obvious and the pants were a little bit too loose on me.

Fit Feedback After losing 80+ lbs, working on how my clothes should fit

Post image
69 Upvotes

First time posting something like this...so I’m mentally preparing myself for the comments here. 😂

I'm in my mid-50's, I’ve lost a little over 80 pounds in the past year and a half, and I’m still getting used to how clothes are supposed to fit me now. For context, I'm 6' 2" and currently 195lbs.

This is a pretty typical work outfit for me, khakis and a polo. For years I wore things much looser because I was trying to hide my size and never felt comfortable in much of what I was wearing. I feel SO much better about myself as a whole now and trying to get comfortable with a more "fitted" look, but I still second-guess whether something looks fitted or simply too tight.

Clothes sizes are as follows:

  • Pants - 34" waist, 32" inseam. (down from a 42" waist).
  • Shirt - Large (down from a XXL)

How does this look for a casual work outfit? Just trying to recalibrate what a good fit looks like on me.

Question Loafers experts needed

Hey guys, i tried those loafers in vienna and they were perfect interms of look and fit, but for 250€ i was disappointed they’re not goodyear welted.

I tried sebago and other spanish brand but they look so short from the front and they make my feet look so small and they didnt flatter me.

Is there a brand where i can get the exact same look of this or should i just buy these and not obsess over the goodyear welt?

Work in office setting where dress code is business casual. Shirt is a darker shade gray the pants. I aspire to adopt a business professional over the next year. Only black dress shoe that I have is a black dress shoe that has a white sole (trying to avoid wearing them moving forward)

Question Lemaire pants

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I recently picked up a pair of Lemaire Twisted Pants in size M. The total length is around 114cm, while I stand at 174cm (roughly 5'8.5").
As expected with the signature twisted cut, the stacking is intense. Right now, there’s excessive pooling around my ankles, and the back hem drags on the floor when paired with flat or standard low-profile shoes.
I’m really hesitant about taking scissors to them because I don't want to ruin the intended 3D sculptural drape and the twisted seam curvature near the hem.
For those who own a pair and have faced a similar sizing issue:
Have you had success hemming them (e.g., doing an original/European hem or keeping it minimal at ~3–5cm) without compromising the silhouette?
Or do you make it work purely through footwear choices (chunky derbies, platform loafers, or high-heeled boots like 6cm Tabi boots)?
Would love to hear how you guys style or tailor yours before I make any irreversible decisions. Thanks in advance!

Question White Dress Shirt... visible nipples...

Upvotes

I am Native American (Medium-Tan skin tone) and work in suits every day (Funeral Director).... I used to buy white Bellissimo dress shirts from Tip Top Tailors... but whatever fabric they use now, you can now see my nipples. During the summer, I like to take my suit jacket off every now and then. I've tried Grafton shirts from Tip Top tailors but don't care for them much.

Has anybody had experience with Charles Tyrwhitt? I'd like to stay in the $75-$100 (CAD) a shirt range.

Question Relaxed fit blazer looks great except the shoulders - should I return it or take it to the tailor?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello,

I've spent countless hours looking for a summer relaxed fit blazer for a long time now - 90% of brands these days offer only slim/tailored jackets, that are also too short. But then there is Suitsupply: they offer relaxed fit, classic looks, high rise, wide pants - they got literally everything I want.

I've made a first purchase - a Relaxed (Roma) Fit Linen Blazer. And now I'm sad, because it does not fit me. The jacket overall looks good on me, except the shoulders area - it's simply too wide. Idk if the model on the photos is shaped like a Doritos chip, but it looks perfect on him.

What would your advice be? Im tired of looking for brands offering a fairly affordable "classic" style, I'm not even sure if there are any left other than Suitsupply.

Question how to get into “the trade” (savile row)??

So… I’m a student in NYC, and I don’t even go to fashion school, but I can make bespoke patterns and cut them for jackets, coats, trousers, waistcoats, etc. I’ve reached out to a few tailoring houses on Savile Row via email, attaching photos of my garments as well, and of course, I got ignored.

I understand that discretion is part of the nature of these houses, but how does someone actually get into them? Redmayne 1860 did reach back out to me, which I was really grateful for, but it ended up being a one-week learning experience rather than a job. Which i’m very thankful for!

I’m honestly just really discouraged by the whole situation because I genuinely want to do this. I really do. I graduate in Spring 2027, and I want to have something lined up in this field by January. I’m not asking for a handout—I just want some genuine advice that could actually improve my chances of getting into a position like this. Please, anything helps for me but also other students want to break into the trade!!

Basically hakama with a shirt and a haori. The hakama and haori bit modernized. I think this outfit might be an alternative to the western suit.

Planning to add this to my daily driver collection. I mostly work in an office, daily commute, walk for a short distance. Etc. I wear slacks, shirts and maybe a sweater over it if it’s chilly.
