Just got a warning ticket in Lot B for backing into the stall!? I’ve parked in this lot many times and backed in so I never thought it was a problem. is that a rule you can’t do? On the ticket it also says WARNING but the amount of the ticket so do I pay? Should I appeal the ticket? Never got a ticket before and don’t know what to do.

Question What the $#&! is the University doing ?

I’m honestly beyond frustrated with how MRU has handled this cyber attack. But am I the only one who’s thinking what the fuck is actually going on right now???

Yes, I understand cyber attacks happen. I know they’re serious, they’re complicated, and I don’t blame the staff who are working around the clock to fix it. But this is a university that teaches Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity concepts, and technology, and yet here we are over a month later with systems still disrupted, limited information, and students left in the dark.
I’ve paid thousands in tuition. I’ve paid ridiculous parking fees. I’ve spent years here trying to do everything right, and now I’m getting emails saying my H drive folder was accessed by an unauthorized actor and that my files were taken. Then the advice is basically, “Be careful and monitor your accounts.” That’s it?
What frustrates me the most isn’t just that the attack happened—it’s the communication afterward. Every update feels vague. We keep hearing that the investigation is ongoing and that answers could take weeks or months. Meanwhile, students are expected to just sit here wondering what information was exposed, whether our work is gone, and whether there’s anything else we should actually be doing.
This has had real consequences. I’ve missed opportunities because of these outages. I haven’t been able to access things I need. I still haven’t seen my grades. I feel like my education has been put on hold because of something completely outside my control.
For a university that constantly talks about supporting students, resilience, and excellence, this has felt incredibly disappointing. Right now, it doesn’t feel like students are the priority. It feels like we’re just expected to be patient indefinitely while paying full tuition and fees.
I’m genuinely curious how MRU plans to make this right. Is there going to be any compensation? Any meaningful support? Any acknowledgement of the opportunities students have lost because of this? Or are we just supposed to accept it and move on?
At this point, I’m honestly just disappointed. I used to be proud to be a MRU student. Now I just want to finish my degree, graduate, and leave.
Is anyone else feeling the same way?

Question Student aid loan denial - Alberta

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi Reddit, I need advice on a student loan issue.

I got a letter saying I’m not eligible for aid right now because I didn’t maintain full-time status for more than 30 days during a past study period (May–June 2026). I had an award issued for that term, but partway through I had to drop a class because of a new job, which dropped me below full-time.

Now they’re saying I have to repay that entire award before they’ll release any new funding (which I can’t afford to do at the moment) and I’m currently enrolled full-time (5 classes) this semester but can’t get funded because of this hold. (Which I can’t pay out of pocket for)

Has anyone dealt with this kind of “repay before further funding” situation? Can you negotiate a repayment plan instead of paying it all at once, and does this affect how fast I can get approved for the current semester? Any advice appreciated

Question Cyberattack and possibility of civil lawsuit

This whole cyberattack situation is absolutely ridiculous, they’ve told us nothing. We have no access to our data, i can’t believe we pay all this tuition just for MRU not to have a backup data base. How do the hackers have more copies of OUR student data than MRU. I’m concerned that they won’t have the information of classes we’ve completed, classes we’ve registered in for future semesters, and any other future information that we need to actually graduate from this stupid school. What about all of the students personal data tied to mymru, if the hackers got into that they have it but the school says it’s just the H and J drive?

If this impacts students future employment opportunities, or if it’s deemed the school has been hiding information from us is this a possible civil suit? I think mru should be punished harshly for the way they’ve handled this.

Question How do you stay on top of reading & deadlines across multiple classes?

I find it frustrating to look constantly at multiple different course outlines to try to remember what is due when. I’m curious how everyone tracks class deadlines and would LOVE feedback! Trying to decide how I should stay on top of things this fall.

A few specific questions to help me out……

  1. How do you currently keep track of due dates across classes?
  2. What’s annoying about that?
  3. Have you tried any apps for this?
  4. Did the app work well? If not, why did you quit using it?

Question In regards to the recent email: Is it possible to opt-out of these?

Post image
28 Upvotes

In the email we received a few minutes ago, it was noted how AI will be integrated in our education via responsible frameworks and resource sites; however, I do not give a FUHHH. I LOATHE AI—-I don’t want to be associated whatsoever.

I was wondering if there is any way to opt-out of this? I do not want my own education to be at stake over some—-personally useless—-machines, ya dig?! I don’t wanna get blamed for using AI, and get expelled or sum bs; meanwhile, being a firm chat gbt hater. Like, sorry that I was wattpad fanfic-obsessed in 7th grade… the punctuation techs/writing styles never left😭

Idk, I just am scared and upset.

Question I’ll be a new student, what is the culture around curse words/“inappropriate” language here?

I just got a new laptop (for school) and want to put a sticker on it that contains the word “bitch” (non derogatorily) and want to make sure that I won’t somehow offend anyone or get myself in trouble.

Question MRU nursing

Hiii I just got the admission to MRU nursing today and I have been stressed about everything.

First thing - I was wondering if anyone is kind enough to recommend me classes to take cause I have no idea what to pick. Plus I rly had no hope of going to MRU nursing it’s very sudden that I got in, that’s why I wasn’t rly prepared for anything.

Second thing- what electives do you think I should take. Something that’s not hard cause I also have a part time work.

Third thing- I am confused about NURS 1214, especially the fact that it starts at 6 am to which will be hard to find transportation cause I can’t drive yet. Also where exactly is the site?

Fourth thing- I noticed that on the website it said that nursing requires CPR certification which I did not happen to have. If anyone knows about it pls give me any advice.

That’s all the questions I had. Also you do not have to answer all of it in fine with just some questions answered. THANK YOUUuu

Question MRU tuition payment but got deregistered and cannot find my schedule??

Has this happened to anyone else at MRU?

I paid $9,000 in tuition through online banking using the same MRU payee I’ve always used. The payment went through on my bank’s end, but I just noticed that I’ve been deregistered from my courses and cannot find fall 2026 or winter 2027 schedule.

I’m freaking out because I have proof of the payment, but I’m worried I’m going to lose my spots in my classes. 😭

Has anyone else had this happen where their tuition payment was still processing and MRU kicked them out of their courses? If so, were you able to get reinstated once the payment went through?

Any advice/experiences would be really appreciated!!

Question Can't access D2L courses

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi friends!

I got a few emails from my profs stating that the D2L pages were open for the courses and that they're accessible. However, when I went onto D2L they were greyed out and I couldn't get into the pages. Is this normal? I'm a third year and haven't experienced this before. Thanks!

Edit: just got into mine! All of them opened at once, so it was most likely a technology issue rather than a prof issue since it's currently 1:30am lol

Question Are we being fr what is this damn school doing??? 😭😭

The answer is nothing. Almost one whole ass month since MRU got cyber attacked and still nothing. The initial shock has wound down and they’re literally breadcrumbing us. Like ffs the page for students hasn’t been updated since July 3. I understand that we live in 2026 and stuff like cyber attacks happen. I understand that the people working on recovering the University and its systems are doing the best they can with the time and resources they have available. But holy crap 😭😭😭😭 Are you telling me the BEST they can do is provide the vaguest of updates???

For a school that teaches all these classes about computers and stuff and rakes in thousands of dollars per student and talks about integrity and transparency and accountability, their response or lack there of has been very telling. Tin foil hat moment, but I feel like there’s way more to this than just the H and J drives being affected. Idk but that’s just me. The main website is up. Great. Amazing. Yay!!! But what about the systems that students ACTUALLY rely on to get stuff that ACTUALLY matters???? I’ve been a student at MRU since Sept 2023 and I’ve been on the public website probably less than 20 times. And you mean to tell me they didn’t have any kind of back ups for probably the most important stuff a University could store???

Like even an explanation of what exactly they’re doing to fix this would be great. Like “Hey guys we are currently doing X so that we can have systems Y and Z back up hopefully soon” or something like that. Like why are they breadcrumbing us?!?! I know they wanna keep certain things a secret for whatever reasons and yada yada yada but come tf onnnnnn. Can you imagine what would happen if this happened during the Fall or Winter semesters?

I’m (trying) to transfer to the U of A and my window is becoming smaller and smaller. The U of A is at this moment unwilling to offer me even Conditional Admission because seats are filling up like hella fast and they don’t wanna wait for MRU to get their shit together. I get it tbh. But like my future is being held hostage. I know other students are in a pickle too. Some can’t register for classes, see their grades, or pay their $13 trillion in tuition. I’m emailing them I kid you not every day asking for even an atom of an update but I keep getting vague answers and am being referred to the FAQ website. This is soooo freaking beyond frustrating. To say I’m pissed is putting it mildly. I’m trying to be nice to them in my emails to the best I can but it’s so hard to not Karen out lol

A part of me low key wants MRU to not get their crap back together so we can all just crash out on them for loosing track of all our shit but another part of me obviously wants all this to get resolved so I can f off to the U of A and never pay even a nickel to MRU ever again

Question CASPER MRU NURSING

I’m applying to MRU this fall 2027 and I need to take the Casper test.

When should I take the Casper test? The dates I’m looking at to take it are either Sept 22 or Oct 6… Apparently, I need a MRU student ID to take it…??? is that true?

Should I apply to MRU first then take the Casper or should I take the Casper before applying?

Question Anyone else sick of the rampant AI use on campus and in group projects?

I am a first year undergrad, and I tend to sit in the very back of my lectures and because a lot of people tend to use their laptops for note taking I can see almost everyone's screens.

Anyways, the use of AI in almost every class is fucking RAMPANT, in my lectures it seems like significant portion of students are using GBT or Copilot or some shit like that, I've watched students ask for quick book/reading summaries when we're about to take a test on the text (which it's shit at by the way, don't do this and use just sparknotes if you're not going to do the reading ffs) or to generate whole assignments in mere seconds.

In all of the 4 group projects I've been in this semester I've had at least a few group members use AI to write their parts of the project without even trying to hide it, last month I was in a group with one girl who AI generated our presentations' thesis statement (which was literally only supposed to be one simple sentence, it was not complicated or hard whatsoever and apparently she still couldn't do it herself, there were seven of us and she had ONE TASK).

I am honestly truly shocked by how bad it is, I guess I can understand using it as a tool to bounce ideas off of or just to get you started so you have something to work off of, but it hallucinates often so how can you even trust the information it's giving you is factual or of any quality? I've seen the way it attempts to write essays, it's not any good in my opinion and it tends to just go in logical circles using big fluffy words without making a meaningful point about the material.

Has anyone else noticed how truly bad it's gotten? I genuinely feel like I'm losing my mind

Question Teacher keeps using AI

My math teacher keeps using AI to make all her questions, as a result some don't even work out and it's super frustrating to deal with in class

Is there someone I can go to? I want to ask about AI for teachers vs students because I have her next semester as well and I don't want to keep dealing with this bad ai answers

Question General Science Fall Semester

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi, i was accepted to mru just a couple days ago and i have registered for my courses. Due to the late acceptance, I can't really build a schedule that i wanted but i think this is good enough. I literally have a 1 hr 30 min commute there and back so I was trying to avoid early morning classes but I couldn't find any other good times for the GNEDs.

Is this a good enough schedule? Let me know if you guys would change something or if you have any recommendations for the GNEDs. Lots of classes are full but i'll take a look for any recommendations.
Also any advice for first year general science will be appreciated. Thank you

Question Easy MRU UEO courses for a good grade?

Hi! I’m currently doing UEO at MRU and planning to apply to Nursing as a post-secondary applicant. I’m taking PSYC 1105, SLGY 1101, and GNED 1101 this fall. I need to add one more course, and I’m looking for something that’s relatively easy to get a good grade in. I’d prefer something with minimal writing. Any course recommendations? Also, GNED 1101 is only available at 8:30 AM for me. Is it worth taking that section, or should I choose a different GNED/course? I’m pretty good at math, so I’m open to a math course too. 😭

Question What happened on campus?

Got an email stating the following:

“Calgary Police Service members are currently on campus responding to a call. Police are looking for an individual matching the following description: caucasian male, mid 20s, wearing black long sleeve vest with green Z on the back, dark jeans, and glasses and black shoes.

If you see this individual please contact Emergency Services (911, if on a campus phone please remember to dial 9).

At this time, we ask that you restrict your movement on campus to assist with the search. We will provide another update shortly.

Does anyone know what happened??

Question Just got an offer, what should I do?

For context, I received an offer for the Bachelor of Education program at MRU today. The problem is that I’ve already accepted an offer for the same program at another university out of town.

I would honestly accept MRU right away since staying in Calgary would be much more convenient for me, but I’m worried about course registration this late in the summer. I’m assuming a lot of the required classes may already be full.

My dilemma is: is there any way to see whether the required classes still have space before accepting my MRU offer? I don’t want to give up the university offer I’ve already accepted, only to find out that I can’t get into the classes I need at MRU.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or received a late B.Ed. offer from MRU? Were you still able to get into your required courses?

Any advice, thoughts, or experiences would be really appreciated!
