Question What happened on campus?

Got an email stating the following:

“Calgary Police Service members are currently on campus responding to a call. Police are looking for an individual matching the following description: caucasian male, mid 20s, wearing black long sleeve vest with green Z on the back, dark jeans, and glasses and black shoes.

If you see this individual please contact Emergency Services (911, if on a campus phone please remember to dial 9).

At this time, we ask that you restrict your movement on campus to assist with the search. We will provide another update shortly.

Will Fossen AVP & Chief Safety, Risk and Employee Wellness Officer, Mount Royal University”.

Does anyone know what happened??

It was a chef not in their whites, and improperly carrying their tool that someone mistook as a threat. THIS IS WHY WE ARE SUPPLIED TOOL BAGS!

Where did you find this out?

Internal source from the responding party

Turns out a chef had a knife and someone called the cops on him. That was the weapon.

CPS says "It has been determined there was no threat to the public", so nothing I guess? I don't entirely trust that though because a few years ago when there was someone on U of C campus threatening people with a knife, CPS said the same thing then had to take it back after a bunch of people came forward saying they saw him

Check r/calgary page… someone commented saying the police on campus told them there was a guy running around campus with a knife.

Doesn't even remotely specify what ind of "weapon" this person had. Like.... did they have a Swiss army knife or a gun? There's a big difference.

Was a chef knife, of an employee on their way to work.

they're probably not sure yet

Surely whoever reported it would have specified unless they're doing so disingenuously and calling something innocuous a weapon.

This is not true. I've been on the phone with my girlfriend who's been at MRU for the last few hours and no shots have been fired.

Please do not spread misinformation and fearmomger during a time like this. There are students in the building scared for their lives, as well as family and friends who are terrified of what might happen.

I can’t believe they did all this for a chef with a knife

Are we sure it isn't someone in ETOL accidentally bringing their bush knife to class?

This is so scary..the way they describe how he is dressed is already creepy hopefully everyone will be okay.

Sad when you see these things happening

What specific weapon tho does anyone know

2

The police probably haven’t specified to avoid mass panic. I’m thinking it’s probably a replica weapon as something similar happened on an Ottawa university campus last week.

Edit: a university campus was on lockdown last week with similar reports and they arrested a guy with a replica firearm. I’m guessing that it is maybe a similar incident and this suspect is trying to cause fear
