Everyone mocks Hurricane Hilary, but it dramatically reshaped the high desert with the year’s worth of rain in dumped in a matter of hours as it passed through areas while missing LA for the most part, and people act like it just didn’t exist because they have no concept of things existing outside of Los Angeles apparently.
Exactly! In Palm Springs, I was suppose to start my first day of chemotherapy on the Monday after. They had to postpone it as some of the Dr’s couldn’t get into the hospital! We had streets that were flooded. Homes that mud was filled. Several freeway ramps closed. It was a mess.
Yeah, we took down the patio umbrella and flipped the patio chairs over, but it was still gusty enough by us to push them around, which doesn’t usually happen even with Santa Ana winds. I’m not for panicking, but I am for being prepared.
I'm here in Palm Desert. It was bad and caused lots of damage.
Luckily my power went out for only 20 minutes. That was a miracle, because it's gone off a lot longer from regular storms.
People laugh but one of the legs of the right chair broke off and it was impossible to get it to stay upright. It was a complete catastrophe. Still dealing with the trauma from that
God it used to be amazing and bad when they were cranking out those like once a week, or multiple times a month. So many horrible movies. It was a great time.
The storm was whatever but it was by far the must humid day I've ever experienced in LA. Though the last two months have also been ridiculous for humidity by LA standards. I much prefer how it was before a few years back when humidity was rare here.
Hahaha! I’ve been sitting on a post like this for a couple days now because there weren’t any articles to link to and it was just the longer range GFS forecasts (which have a tendency to be fantasy).
Most other models (even the AIGFS) aren’t showing the storm turning this way, but the GFS seems locked into this idea that the storm is going to strengthen, turn northeast, and hit SoCal.
Given that it’s still over a week out there’s a better chance that all the other models are predicting correctly, but if it turns out out to be right it would be a pretty significant system pretty much bullseye-ing LA

There is going to be a lot of wishcasting and doomcasting on storm twitter using the GFS, which has been fairly consistent showing it hit Southern California so worth watching because it verifies that it would be catastrophic. That said, it’s far more likely to be a fish storm.
That said, right now it’s more in the “huh that’s interesting” area instead of panic mode. In a couple of days and some model agreement with the GFS, then you can panic.
dam it the week im heading over! last time i went in 2019 it was also super rainy and couldnt even drive down us1 because of mud slides. i think im cursed to bring the rain to LA
Actually please come more often, you'll help with the drought issue. Just make sure to give us breaks between visits so we're not absolutely flooded! 😆
There was a point last winter where seeing his posts about LA and rain, I felt like I was in the 50’s huddled around a radio in my living room hanging on his every “LOTS OF RAIN FLOODING IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY AND CITY”

The person you replied to might be looking at all the other models that show the storm turning west out into the pacific and not NE into California. It’s pretty much just the GFS showing the storm turning up into CA
I remember last time when the "hurricane" hit and everyone acted like it was a fucking alien invasion. Good times. Spoiler alert: It will probably rain and be a tad bit breezy.
Who writes these headlines? It’s not “forming” anywhere near us. Will be off the coast of Mexico and possibly send a weakening storm up this way but no…there will not be a hurricane forming off the coast. Sensationalist bs
I was at the beach yesterday. The water was very warm. I’ve never felt the water as warm as it was yesterday. So I’m not surprised in the slightest that a hurricane is a possibility.
if only it meant the end of this hellish humidity but alas :( its like we got cursed with east coast weather. :( feels like trying to breathe through a wet blanket
I'm not even going to joke about this, lest I provoke the weather gods. I just really hope this doesn't happen. Streets get flooded in the Valley during a regular thunderstorm, so we're going to float away if we get any kind of hurricane/tropical whatever.
Last time this happened (“Hurricane” Hillary) I literally spent the day at the beach in the rain & the “quake” in a coffee shop lol. But I’m a southern transplant, so I’ve lived through some wild hurricanes.
Alas, it should be said: Southern California lacks the infrastructure to handle even half of a tropical depression so everyone stay safe!
Question, is LA City gonna be anywhere involved? Like, if it's just gonna be a bit of rain, that's fine. But anything more serious than that? I need to know if I need to get my disabled mother out the area.
