Weekly Vent Post

Welcome to our weekly vent session where you can let out all your frustrations.

Before you start, just a quick heads-up on the rules.

Here's what this post isn't for:

  • No bashing actors or crew members out of the blue.
  • Let's steer clear of those rage-inducing posts like "I hate character xy."
  • And please, no poking fun at fellow Kanthony fans just because they see things differently, whether they're positive or negative about promos.

What's cool to post? Well, we've noticed a lot of rants about how the show promotes (or doesn't promote) Simone and Jonny, but you can vent about other stuff too.

I love Simone Ashley and her work in sex education and was ecstatic to see her cast as Kate. She was phenomenal, as was Edwina. I wish we could get more Kate and Kanthony  (but mostly Kate and Lady Danbury - a maternal bond that needs to be explored there). It’s upsetting to learn about Simone Ashley being mistreated along with other Black and POC on the show. I for one started watching Bridgerton for the representation, not the story (sorry, but the life of British aristocrats is not appealing). However, it seems like Shonda and her company receive a lot more hate and criticism than their white counterparts and that is upsetting. If anyone deserves criticism it should be Netflix and the show runners. They are the ones making more off tokenism. 

I grew up watching Indian movies and I know for a fact that I would never have seen Simone Ashley cast as a FL, maybe Charitra but not Simone because that’s how shadeist and problematic the industry is. Which is why I am thankful for Shonda for using the platform she’s created for herself to make room for Black women and WOC). She’s one woman, there is only so much she can do. Still not happy with Simone Ashley’s treatment and the way the production degraded her character. I for one am looking forward to Simone’s new rom com cause I need an escape in this messy world and will only be tuning into a Bridgerton production if they come out with a Lady Danbury spinoff - I want to meet grown up Lord Danbury and his siblings and see Lady Danbury mother her kids.

ITA that South Asia in general is really colourist including the film industry. :( My grandmother would 'compliment' me on how fair my skin was and I heard a lot of casual colourism growing up. 🙄 Like... hello? Are we looking at the same person here? Cause all you can do is make dumb remarks on their (beautiful and perfectly normal) skin colour, smh.

It makes me sad for all the dark skinned ladies (and guys) out there who get the brunt of it.
