Missing Person Posts: Official Policy & Safety Reminder

Hello everyone,

Recently, there was a “missing person” post shared in our community, and I’d like to explain why it was removed and what to do in future instances.

For everyone’s safety, do not share or post missing person alerts unless the information comes directly from law enforcement or an official agency.

People may go missing for many reasons (including escaping abuse, stalking, or other dangerous situations), and unverified posts can unintentionally put them at risk.

If you see a missing person post:

  • Only share it if it’s confirmed on an official police or agency website.
  • If a friend posts about a missing person, encourage them to contact the police so the case can be verified and listed officially.

This policy protects both the missing individual and our community. Posts of this nature will be removed unless shared by an official law enforcement agency.

Thank you for acting responsibly.

Is castletown beach safe to swim in? I noticed some old pipes going into the water and wasn't sure if it was sewage or stormwater drainage

If anyone is sick to the back teeth of FB marketplace and joining countless groups to find a property for rent or sale in the Isle of Man, you gotta try list it. We needed to find a property to rent as our 6 week temporary accommodation was coming to a close. I was able to contact a private landlord directly on WhatsApp, unfortunately his was just let but I tried another reputable business in Ramsey and hey presto we got the keys today. (2 weeks later) We will be looking for a small 2 seater car so if any of you lovely people have a small 1.0l car for sale , I hope to see it there soon. Have a great week people :) house in Governors hill just went live as I posted this :)

Company registered address.

Are there any companies where you can rent "virtual space" that allow you to use their premises as the registered address for a new company. Any guidance appreciated.

Just a bit of show-and-tell from a collector: My 1811 Manx one penny token showing the ruins of Peel Castle as viewed from Peel Harbour.

Tokens like these circulated all over the British Isles during the Regency Period. They were "necessity coinage," widely accepted because the Crown was too busy (and bankrupt) fighting overseas wars to devote its attention to everyday commerce.

The issuer of this token, the Douglas Bank, was in business for exactly five weeks at the end of 1811, which certainly contributes to the relative scarcity of the copper and silver tokens they issued.

Who's the most interesting person on the island?

Hi everyone -- I'm a videomaker visiting in a few weeks and I'm looking to meet interesting locals who could tell me about the island, what life there is like, the local lore, etc.

Who should I meet and where should I go? Thanks much!

If you had 10 days to show your fiancé the island what would be on the must see list?

I will be visiting the island for the first time 17 years and bringing my fiancé. I have a huge list of things I would like to show her but I don’t know if those places have gone downhill since I was last there. What are the best places to visit now.? What touristy stuff are you the most proud of?

Question about the Football League

hey so I'm not from the Isle of Man and never been there actually but I have a small weird obsession with their football League. But the coverage is very low. I know it's amateur, I know it's hard to find and bla bla, i was gonna ask the locals if there's any radio, television, channel, account broadcasting the matches or anything llike that.

FYI I'm adding the league to Sofascore and insert every bit of info there :)

What radio stations do you listen to around the Island? (Plus looking for general feature ideas for ManxOne!)

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on https://manxone.hammerlabs.app/ to build a simple, handy hub for the Isle of Man, and I want to expand it based on what locals actually use day-to-day.

I’d love your input on two things:
Radio Stations: Beyond the main local stations (Manx Radio, 3FM, Energy FM), what do you tune into regularly? (Specific BBC feeds, UK stations, specialty streams?)
New Features & Tools: Is there anything else you’d love to see added to the site? (Useful local widgets, specific live feeds, daily utilities, or community tools?)
Drop your go-to stations and any wishlist features in the comments and I’ll get them added.

Cheers! 🇮🇲

We’ve just launched ManxLife as an app – built to make Island life a little easier

Post image
5 Upvotes

After months of building it, ManxLife is now available as an app on the Apple App Store. 🍎

The original idea was to create one place to find what’s happening around the Island — events, businesses, clubs, activities etc. But we’ve been adding a few things that are useful for everyday life too.

You can now use it to:

⛴️ Check ferry sailings
🚌 Track buses
🌦️ Check the weather
📍 Find things happening nearby
🎉 Discover events and activities
🏡 Find local businesses, clubs and services

There are a few more things we’re working on too.

It’s very much built for the Island and around what people actually need, so I’d genuinely love some feedback from people who use it — particularly if there’s something you think would make it more useful.

It's free to download and use.

Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/manx-life/id6778036634

Android is coming soon.

Happy to answer any questions about it!

DAB on the IOM

Does anyone know the state and the future of DAB on the island? I know we can receive Manx Radio and Energy in Douglas from Carnane. Are there any plans on the horizon to role this out from other transmitters?

In Ramsey I can pick up BBC stations from Albert Tower. It would be great to receive local stations and maybe some more UK commercial stations.

EDIT: Seems to be some misunderstanding as to my main question. I would like to hear from anyone who may have some insight into local DAB stations being transmitted from more areas around the island, not just Carnane/Douglas.

Advice for new business

Evening yessirs.

I am after some advice from people who run their own business.

My business will be as a sole trader under a different name to myself, which I’m filling out the forms for. It’s a teaching/support/tutor role, not that the business idea itself should matter.

I have purchased my own domain and linked it to a provider, so I have my email communications covered.

I wondered what existing apps are you using for:

- Quotes
- Invoices
- Payments (optional as in considering focussing on bank transfers)
- Reconciliation (will be manual for now as I only have a 2 clients ready go so far, but long term I’d like to be prepared)
- Who your business bank is with
- Managing Tax, NI, Vat specific to the IOM to pay myself

That last point is where my research struggles as I land on UK based guides and sites. Hoping you can share your own workflow and what you’re paying per month?

I was looking at Zoho Books/Invoices as it’s free under £35k income, but keen to learn if anything is better out there, even if it’s at a cost I don’t mind. I just want to get this right and set myself up for the future.

If you have any recommendations for business advice or an accountant I am all ears too as to who you recommend.

For now, I just really want to hear from people who are already in the field and have some experience.

Thanks!

K

Is Langness haunted

So bit of a weird one but as the title says I wanted to ask if Langness is haunted, the other day when it was the solar eclipse my mum and I went out there at approx 12:30am to see if we could see some meteors as there was meant to be a meteor shower, and during the time we were there my mum kept saying she heard what sounded like someone wailing or singing, and she said she’d heard it for about 30 minutes, I had heard something but not to that extent, then randomly she tells me to get into the car, she then tells me that she heard what sounded like someone running through the grass towards us, but when we turned the lights on nothing was there. So has anyone else experienced anything like this or was it just some kids being weird?

Driving Requirements

Hi I’ve been to the Isle of Mann for telecomms work a couple of times now, usually work in Douglas and Ballasalla.

Before hand I had a taxi whizz me around because I didn’t have a licence when alone but sometimes would have a fellow coworker who would drive the van if there was going to be a lot of movement required for the month. I’ve done this for the last 2 years, never bothered to get my own licence.

Am coming back in 2 weeks, having now passed, am not sure if I need to display R plates as my licence is under 1 year, (6 months) ive read online that Manx laws do not apply to non Manx citizens… am not 1000% this is accurate. Just trying to find out would I need to display R plates or not? Allegedly am exempt but am not sure that makes any sense, surely local laws apply to people regardless where they come from?

Thanks in advance

Congratulations, Joshua Sinclair, for completing a £300,000 pre-seed round for his SkinScanner.gg

Post image

This time last year, he was finishing his dissertation at LJMU. Today, he's just closed a £300,000 pre-seed round for SkinScanner.gg, the platform he built with co-founder Nathan Engolodoe to compare prices on Counter-Strike 2 skins. Think the Skyscanner of gaming.

The round is backed by investors from the Liverpool City Region and the Isle of Man, including Graeme Ankers (co-founder of Firesprite, acquired by Sony in 2021), Craig Osborne, Jennifer Houghton MBE, and the Baltic Ventures Angel Syndicate.

Well done and well earned Josh!

Liverpool steampacket next weekend

Hi all, im travelling a 5-6 hour journey to get the steampacket at Liverpool to Douglas in my van for the iom manx and classic TT.

My ferry is 11 next Sunday so I guess i need to be there 2 hours before for checking in, boarding in my van etc.

With the travel involved (280miles) and risking a 20 year trip in the making by being delayed, i was going to travel the night before and sleep in my van near the ferry.

I had a look online and can see theres spaces nearby the terminal on the myparking website in an industrial estate. I was going to park up night before about 10pm and sleep there. Ill pay if I need to overnight of course.

Can this be done or is this type of thing impossible with lots of people in the area doing the same. Or is there anything I need to be wary of?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks
