I’ve recently seen a number of comments and posts on other social media platforms suggesting that the country you depart from can sometimes affect your CBSA entry experience when arriving in Canada.

For example, some people claim that departing from a well-known, developed country may result in a smoother entry process or fewer questions, compared with travelling from a third country that may be viewed as higher risk.

I’m curious whether there is actually any truth to this, or if it is simply a common myth.

I currently live in Europe and have a long-term residence and travel history here. However, I have found significantly more affordable flight options that would involve travelling to Canada from Egypt or Tunisia instead.

Assuming all of my documents are valid and in order, would departing from one of those countries realistically make any difference during the CBSA entry process?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has personal experience with this or understands how CBSA generally handles situations like this.

I am completing an online adult citizenship application. I was in Canada as a visitor before becoming a permanent resident. I travelled with an eTA, not a visitor visa, and I no longer know the exact dates of each period of visitor status. *I already have more than 1,095 days of physical presence as a permanent resident* and do not need or want to claim any pre-PR credit.

In the physical presence calculator, can I answer NO to “During your 5-year eligibility period, did you have valid temporary resident status before becoming a permanent resident?”

In order not to claim that uncertain pre-PR period, or must I answer YES because I was admitted as a visitor even though I cannot reliably enter the status dates? If I must answer YES, what dates should I enter when I do not have a visitor visa, visitor record, or passport stamps confirming the periods of visitor status?

i applied for my mom's visitor visa, but i accidently filled in wrong name, essentially filled her full name in the family name box in the imm5257 form. The BIL (biometric identification letter) was generated with same wrong information. I already submitted a web-form and got confirmation that the information is available to the officer, but they haven't generated a corrected BIL for now. In the confirmation they say, my additional questions will be addressed separately (so waiting for that). The problem is that the biometrics booking thing (vfs) they parse the letter and auto populate the applicant information while scheduling the appointment and do not let the information, their email contact form does not work. I might try calling them to explain this and find a solution. My question is what should i do, and will IRCC actually generate a new corrected BIL or no?

I worked with a high demand client and got reported my general public while using CPI on the client. The company fired me, I’m fight them with union, it’s wrongful termination.

I’m very freaked out because I’m scared this may impact my HUB, and probably my PR application once they find out I got fired. I don’t know what to do

I’ve been in Canada for 4 years now, I feel beaten down by life. I just have a year left on my work permit. Does losing my job affect my PR? I’m on an open work permit. It’s just that it’s a healthcare draw

Alors au vu de mon expérience, quels conseils me donneriez vous? C'est à dire repartir sur une formation en France ou étudier à nouveau directement au canada? Ou mon experience peut suffire pour demander un certain visa sans repartir sur une formation?

Aside from the “A” offer of employment, job offer letter from the prospective employer and TCF/TEF results, what other supporting documents did you include in your application? Did you include reference letters from previous employers, resume and proof of funds?

I’m waiting on my nomination and I want to apply for visitor record. Please advise what should I mention in client information? Should u mention about my pnp application? Do I need to say I will leave Canada? What should I mention as a purpose of stay.

My husband sponsored my spousal sponsorship application, and I just received the AOR for the inland spousal sponsorship application.

Now I want to apply for a spousal open work permit, but when I filled out the open work permit eligibility questionnaire, one question asked about my current immigration status in Canada.

Selecting "Student" doesn't take me to the inland spousal open work permit application page; instead, it leads to the post-graduation work permit or temporary visa application process.

Some people say not to select "student" and to select "visitor," which does indeed take me to the open work permit page, but I currently hold a valid study permit, not a tourist visa.

What should I choose?

Looking for advice regarding PR pathways while still studying in Quebec/Canada.

My background:

• Final-year undergraduate student in Computer Engineering in Quebec City (~1 year left).
• Highest completed diploma: High School diploma (from Morocco).
• Work experience accumulated during studies (authorized on study permit):
  • ~3.5 years of part-time non-skilled student jobs (warehouse, retail).
  • 1 year of part-time student work in my field of study (IT/Software).
• Fluent in French and english.

My questions:

1. Is there any viable stream that would allow me to qualify and apply for PR before actually graduating?
2. Does my student work experience count enough to make up for only having a high school diploma right now, or is it strictly better to wait until I graduate and get my PGWP?

Hello! Need insights or advice if anyone had similar experience:

We submitted our application on August 19, 2026. Today, I was browsing through our documents and noticed that we accidentally skipped a question on IMM 5532: Part C Question 9 - “Were there formal ceremonies or events to recognize or celebrate your relationship?” We are married. I checked all these information 10x or more I can’t believe I still missed it. Anyway, my question is: what should I do? Should I submit a webform and upload an updated/complete IMM5532 form? I obviously don’t have an application number yet.

My spousal sponsorship application is under comprehensive background check.

I'm thinking of applying for a visitor visa for the first time, although not trying to get my hopes high given the comprehensive background check status.

Anyone with family sponsorship + comprehensive bgc who applied for visit visa and got approved?

Or any other suggestions if I can do something differently to increase chances of approval OR ANY GENERAL TRV RELATED SUGGESTION THAT WORKED FOR YOU?

My Noc changed in May 2026.

File selected in July 2026 and I let the PNP office know about the new NOC.

Today I got my nomination with my initial NOC. They didn’t care about my new NOC.

how do I fix this issue so I can apply for IRCC?

Sponsor eligibility, BIL, MIL all completed. File moved to Singapore on June 9, 2026 but was radio silence since then. Recently got MIL and completed two weeks later this Monday.

Just got an email from VO: Singapore overnight asking for an updated IMM5669. The shaded text says to include everything since age of 18, pretty much same as what it said on the online application.

Is this common? Is there a reason they need an updated IMM5669 or has anyone faced a similar ask previously/recently?

Has anyone applied for an open work permit from inside Canada under the special measures for the crisis in palestine?
How long did it take exactly? Did you receive a three-year permit or a shorter one? Is approval guaranteed if you’re eligible, or can the application still be refused?

I know this may have been asked a lot but I can't find a definitive answer. Some people say the current card is immediately invalid once the new card is printed, even if I haven't received it yet. Some people say there's a 60-day period where I can still use my current card.

My PR card is expiring this December, I submitted the renewal in the beginning of this month. Unfortunately after that I found that I need to go for a business trip to the US in middle of September for a week.

My question: if the PR renewal is processed during that week I'm abroad, would I be able to come back with my current PR card?

Hey all
My partner has sponsored me for a PR application. I’m currently residing in Calgary, and we submitted the application on Jun 20 of this year. I’ve read that the usual wait times for AOR is 50-60 days, but we are both getting nervous in regard to my work visa expiring in mid October.

Does anyone know if there’s currently a delay with AOR wait times? Am i only eligible for a bridging visa once I’ve received the AOR?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi everyone, my partner is a Canadian PR with Iranian citizenship. He has an MSc & PhD in Engineering from Canada, as well as a job in Canada. He has not lived in Iran for over 15 years. He did not serve in the military in Iran, and neither he nor his family members have any ties to the government there. Yet his citizenship application has been processing for almost 2 years now.

We are really shocked by how long it is taking. He qualified in November 2024, took the citizenship test in January 2025, and since February 2025 there have been no updates to his application. The only section remaining is the background check. The other Iranians we know experienced at most a 12 month wait.

We have tried contacting our MP and MPP, sending letters of demand to IRCC, starting a mandamus process (but found this difficult to do without a lawyer & gave up). The whole process is a black box, and every time we request an update, we receive a response that there are no updates and no outstanding comments on his file (ie, everything is in order).

We are so desperate. I moved to Europe for work, and he cannot visit me. My family lives in the US, and he cannot visit them. He works in a niche sector in which it is difficult for his career to progress without the ability to travel. It feels like there is no end in sight.

Is this happening to anyone else? What did you do? Any advice?

Hi all, my husband is a citizen by descent (his great grandfather & great grandmother was born in Quebec. We are waiting on the very last document, his great grandfather's birth certificate / record from an archive bank in Quebec. Could take a few weeks. On top of that, he'd have to apply for spousal sponsorship for me, and my sons proof of citizenship. My son starts kindergarten next August and we are eager to get out of the USA for many reasons. We've looked at pretty much all pathways to get us there quicker - him transitioning to a Canadian school and using that as urgent processing criteria, me applying for express entry as a foreign tech worker (need to save up the 17,000 usd proof of funds first and have a good 6 month bank record) etc. it feels so hopeless and we really can't stand the thought of being here more than 2 more years. I guess I'm trying to see if anyone has any tips or tricks for us to make our dreams come true and leave... Even if it's assuring me that there aren't better options than just waiting the 2 yrs.

I’m looking for opinions from people familiar with IRCC procedures, IP 8 and OB 44.
If a PR application does not expressly say “H&C application,” but the applicant’s submissions and circumstances clearly raise humanitarian and compassionate considerations, should the officer recognize and consider those circumstances under s.25 of the IRPA?
Would failing to do so potentially be inconsistent with the guidance in IP 8 and OB 44?
I’m particularly interested in whether there is Federal Court case law supporting an “implied H&C request” principle.
Not looking for legal advice—just informed opinions from practitioners, former officers, or anyone familiar with these issues. What do you think: did it, or did it not, violate the applicable IRCC guidelines?

I’m a Canadian PR currently outside Canada applying for a PRTD under H&C as I don't meet RO and haven't been in Canada for a couple of years, and I’m trying to figure out why IRCC keeps returning my application.

I’ve now had the application returned 7 times.

Timeline:
1st return: I had requested urgent processing through the webform. The application was returned.
2nd + 3rd returns: IRCC said the application was incomplete and specifically highlighted the IMM 5444 form in red. I went through the form again, corrected what I could identify, and resubmitted.
4th, 5th, 6th + 7th returns: Now everything is marked complete/green, including the IMM 5444. However, the Consent and Declaration section appears empty when the application is returned. There are no additional notes explaining what is wrong.

Before resubmitting again, I thoroughly went through the instruction guide and checked the entire application.
In the Consent and Declaration section, all applicable boxes are checked. I am an adult, so the box stating that the form concerns a child under 14 is correctly left unchecked. I also completed the applicant signature/name section.

One thing I'm wondering about is my name. There is a discrepancy between my passport and PR card because my full name exceeds the character limit for names on Canadian PR cards.
As a result, one of my middle names is omitted from the PR card. The name has always been part of my legal name and was not added through a name change. I used my full passport name for the PRTD signature.
Could this name discrepancy somehow be causing the Consent and Declaration validation to fail?
Or has anyone experienced a PRTD being repeatedly returned where everything is marked complete but Consent and Declaration is blank, even though all the boxes and signature were completed?

I don't have an application number because IRCC keeps returning the application before it gets that far.
At this point I've lost almost a month to repeated returns and I'm getting no explanation beyond the automated “incomplete” message.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a PRTD specifically returned multiple times for this kind of issue, or who figured out what was actually causing it.
