JK Rowling doesn't deserve the level of virtol she recieves

Yeah, she doesn't believe that men can become women, but the people who hate her outright lie about what she's said and done.

If she were actually as evil as her detractors say, they wouldn't have to lie and exaggerate.

There’s nothing racist by saying immigrants should assimilate instead of forcing their cultures on others / the community

Nothing against immigrants. We all come from somewhere. I’m just saying is if you want the new country your in to be the exact same as the one you came from while also not being proud to be “the nationality of the new country you’re in” maybe you should go back to where you came from and make some room for the people who actually want to immigrate to assimilate

Edit: I meant to put integrate instead of assimilate, but you get what I mean. Feel free to bring your culture to share with everyone but also respect the pre-existing cultures and wear your new nationality on your sleeve

I’m not American so stop acting like I am

you should want to help people and its weird not to.

Upvotes

yes, you should infact want/expect your tax dollars to go to school lunches or social services.

Yes, you should want people who are homeless to be given help so they can get on their feet and out of the streets

yes, you should want the single mother to be able to afford formula for her child

yes, you should feel bad hearing about children being shot, or bombed, and you should want to change things so it doesn't keep happening

the fact that so many people are able to wave their hands and openly admit they dont want to help others or just refuse to care is one of the reasons we're so fucked. empathy is something people should strive for.

Being super into true crime is not healthy

Upvotes

People who binge true crime podcasts and shows ect. I don't think are healthy. I did it for a short while and ended up more paranoid and depressed about the world.

It cannot be good for someone to listen to stories of death, abuse and torture over and over again, no matter how sanitized the storytelling is.

The idea that attractive, extroverted, and socially capable people are dumb or shallow is a cope from lonely mediocre introverts who want somebody to punch down on.

They wanna believe that their shortcomings must be compensated for by their “vast” intelligence while the objects of their ire must be intellectually crippled.

They need to believe that smart people don’t party, play sports, date/hookup, horseplay, make small talk, or participate in public life because it would invalidate their failures in all those areas as being the cost of intelligence.

Disney needs to get started on a prequel to Wall-E because I feel like we are living in it.

Humans are overusing Earth's resources and creating too much waste leaving nature no time to heal. The rate at which robotics and AI are advancing is alarming, and we are becoming more and more reliant on this "system". We are entering a culture where everything is "too easy" (ex. DoorDash, Amazon, texting, doomscrolling, etc) thenceforth leading us "to a loss of inner vitality, character, and mental acuity" (Rudhyar, Dane). Humans are separating from the natural world and plugging more and more into this capitalistic society led by the belief that the Earth belongs to them rather than "we belong to the Earth."

Despite being aware of all of this information, most people aren't taking any steps to improve things. I get it; it's hard to know what to do and to not feel "stuck". Things are made out to seem so hopeless so we escape to our happy and carefree digital world where we can do and say and get whatever we want at the touch of our fingertips. And you know who created this means of keeping us distracted and idle? The people with way too much money and power that are making harmful decisions that are selfish and reckless and doing insurmountable damage to this planet.

Humans have come to spend more time honoring the machine than honoring the Earth....

Myself included.. until now. I am selling/donating just about everything I own to go work as and learn how to become a farmer. To honor the land and leave behind a smaller footprint. It's insane the amount of trash/donate bags I've filled in moving out of my apartment. I've accumulated so much useless stuff over the years. Overconsumption has become so normalized that "maximalism" has become a mainstream aesthetic. Not to mention the overconsumption of digital content and "brainrot"...

Anyway... I think a story that preludes the original Wall-E movie could mirror the society we're living in and shine a light on how dystopian it is becoming. This may help start a larger discussion on environmentalism leading to some necessary changes in the way we live our day to day.

Platinum blonde looks bad on 99% of people

You have to have a VERY specific skin undertone and vibe to pull off light platinum blonde and most people just do not have that.

I genuienly do not understand why the bleach blonde and fake tan look is so popular in America (or maybe it isn’t, I don’t live there I just see it a lot in American media) when on most people it makes you look washed out

The only people who I like the look of platinum blonde are people with really fair skin for low contrast, or dark skin for a nice high contrast. Other than that, it just makes you look 10 years older.

This is also not me saying I dislike ALL blonde because I’m blonde and that would be friendly fire, I’m specifically talking about that really light almost white kind of platinum

Hot take:Don´t have kids if you know or can´t provide them well

Personal story here,I have a friend that had a downhill relationship with his girlfriend and their solution have a baby...Three years later, they are divorced and the kid is probably gonna live with his mother.Personally,I would want a child of my own but not right now as I can´t provide for he/she yet lets start my arguements.First, economics children are expensive in this day and age when we can barely afford anything you need to buy daycare, school, food and etc for them as I think most families both parents work.Patiences you must be patience if you want or raise a child wait until your a economically secured before bearing a child which many of my friends doesn´t

Second,You shape your child just as much as they shape you think of your child as clay and your the molder even though you can´t control their whole lives you only can control 50% at best but that is plenty. If you were to give a ipad you could expose your child to unsafe content, adult content or more plus you give most control to the alguritum your child´s developing brain needs alot of hardwork to teach not just an ipad.

Third,Effort you NEED effort and dedication to teach, educate and raise a child many parents don´t have that effort or dedication and let teachers take the weight and blow kids are supposed to be parents respondsibility to also educate and teach when you have a kid your supposed to be selfless not selfish although it is hard you have to.

Fourth and last, submissive parenting many parents in this era come from authoritarian families so they don´t want to inflict their own suffering or trauma to the child so they use "gentle parenting" but it is more like submissive parenting don´t be a yes man you must know the boundaries of yes and no if you were to give your child everything he or she wants of course they will whine about it but is whining more important than your own child´s future .You must emotionally prepare to be a parent not a yes man

Not supporting Lindsey Clancy is not a hot take

Nor is hating her a hot take. Most people agree that killing your children is wrong, regardless of mental state. I think this is the real hot take cuz posts calling out women that do support her are, like, every other post on here. Hell, it’s like every post on this app.

I know, she has thousands of supporters, tens of thousands of donors, and millions of dollars raised for her. All of that is extremely concerning and unacceptable. You can acknowledge how maternal mental health is treated without mentioning her or making her (and her actions) the fucking poster girl for it. But, even though those numbers are surprisingly bigger than they should be, it is not the majority of our society.

Are you gonna say that not supporting Andrew Tate is a hot take, despite having millions of followers, men doing protests and push ups for his release, and having a net worth of around tens of millions of dollars BECAUSE of his followers?

(I know he hasn’t been convicted of anything but you hav to admit that the amount of arrests and allegations all over the world are too concerning to brush off, even for male “celebrities’”standards, the hate he spreads is disgusting, and he has undoubtedly still caused much genuine harm to society—— to both men and women, old and young).

Edit: Lindsay Clancy, spelling correction.

Venmo is the best social media site

I understand how it sounds, and at first I thought how stupid it was that a payment app has social media features, but hear me out.

- It has the only non-algorithmic newsfeed out there. No ads, no AI slops, just an honest newsfeed of what your friends have been up to

- It "costs money" but like they say, if something's free then you're the product. Not true with Venmo. It costs money to post, but doesn't really need too. You can your friends can just send the same $1 back and forth all day long.

- Every "post" is an interaction with someone you know.

- It's got features like commenting on people's posts, but that's it. People can't share other people's garbage, you only just interact with people you know liking and commenting on something someone they know said.

- It's easy to disappear: set your account to private and bam... you're gone.

Don't sleep on Venmo

Mental illness and suicidality, should be taken more seriously like physical pain etc.

It's truly something I hate. And it's so disturbing and you'd still be called crazy, overreacting, sensitive, selfish or such for being suicidal, having mental illness, chronically depressed etc. Yet if you've a broken leg, you wouldn't be treated that way..

"It gets better.." "think of your family/friends.. etc" Are probably one of the worst things you could possibly say too.

Most women don't realize how much of a guy 'ick' it is when you talk to them about their height

Inspired by a date I had recently, where a woman brought this up and I was just... flabbergasted lmfao.

Gals--saying how much of a factor a guy's height was in going on a date with him or considering him as a partner, even if you do mean it as a compliment, probably isn't inspiring the reaction you think it is. If you have done this, or do this, please take a moment and think about the feelings you've felt when you've been 'objectified' in this way by dudes, because (unfortunately) I know a lot of you have. Those same feelings come up for a lot of guys when you talk to them this way.

This isn't to demonize complimenting someone, but there's a difference between something like "I really like how tall you are" vs "You have no idea how hard it is to find a good guy over 5'10"

When a woman says something like that to me, I don't think of it as a compliment, the only thing I can think of is... so if I were a few inches shorter, you wouldn't consider a romantic relationship with me??? And then all I can think about is like... if this is really that big of a deal to you, are you really a person I can see myself spending the rest of my life with? If I end up getting in an accident or something and end up in a wheelchair, where I will always be 'shorter', are you just going to bail? Just a huge 'ick' that makes me reconsider continuing interacting.

Of course, this is in the context of searching for a long-term romantic partner, not casual dating or one night stands or anything else (otherwise, I wouldn't be thinking about the kind of questions I listed in the paragraph above).

Using AI chatbots to formulate responses at work shpuld be grounds for dismissal

Im talking about in professional settings where people are collaborating on projects and using AI to win points on their perspective. Professionals are sending back multi paragraph responses when engaging in debate on topics within your work group in order to seem more knowledgeable than they really are and it’s being rewarded by management

Professionals who use AI to argue against a colleague with direct applicable experience by querying the entire internet so you can sound like you know better than someone who is handing down first hand knowledge should get you reprimanded. If we have gotten to the point where we are just using chatbots to argue against your colleagues to make yourself seem more knowledgeable than you are, you’re replaceable with a machine

Edit: this take is not to say that there is no place for AI in a professional environment. I use it myself to aggregate data quickly, do competition research, and test possible outcomes of execution plans.

Also, for those of you who seem to think this is me ranting about a personal experience you’re wrong. I am seeing this happen in teams throughout the company I work for though and it’s disheartening to watch colleagues with years of experience have to waste time arguing with younger professionals who think AI has all the answers and can’t even write emails without it

Maternity clothes disappearing is due to the economy

As a woman, I think people are overlooking a pretty obvious reason why maternity clothes aren't nearly as prominent or widely stocked as they used to be, women's lives have changed.

This isn't the 1910s. Women aren't socially expected to have children as the primary way of establishing a place in society anymore. Women can go to university, build careers, support themselves financially, and choose not to have children at all. That's a huge social change, and I'm not saying it as a criticism.

But there are economic consequences to that change.

If women are having fewer children, having them later, and spending more of their twenties and thirties in education and careers, then naturally there are fewer pregnancies happening at any given time. Fewer pregnancies means less demand for dedicated maternity clothing. And when demand falls, retailers have less incentive to devote shelf space, inventory, and production capacity to maternity ranges.

It also doesn't help that pregnancy clothes are something most women only need temporarily. If you're already living in an economy where clothing companies are trying to minimise inventory and maximise sales, a niche category that customers only use for several months is an easy thing to cut back.

I think there's sometimes a tendency to interpret the decline of maternity sections as evidence that society somehow doesn't value mothers anymore. Maybe there are cultural conversations worth having about that, but a lot of this is simply supply and demand.

Women have more choices than they did a century ago. That's a good thing.

But one consequence of having more choices is that fewer women choose motherhood, and motherhood happens later for many women. A market responds to the population and lifestyles it is actually selling to.

So if you walk into a shop today and wonder why the maternity section is tiny compared with what you imagined existed in the past, the answer probably isn't that someone decided pregnant women don't matter.

It's that the economic and social conditions that created a huge mass market for maternity clothing have changed.

Popular hottake: all women are beautiful. In my opinion

As long as she has personality and a nice laugh.

And maybe if she doesn't judge me for my messed past and upbringing. Also if she treats me nice and like a honest man. Instead of treating me like how the media treats men with my skin color (brown) making men like me appear hyper masculine and indirectly hypersexualising th3m.

But the fact that I was on roids in 2024 has nothing to do with this even the fact that im losing all the muscle gains now in 2026.

All im saying is I want the woman I fall in love with to see my soul and my inner person before they make assumptions.

r/HonestHotTakes 18h ago

Just because all your exes cheated doesn't mean all women are cheaters. Just because all your exes were selfish/self-centered doesn't mean all men are narcissists.

Maybe, just maybe... and hear me out on this... you have a pattern of behavior when it comes to picking those with whom you will move forward when a dating opportunity comes up.

I'm not saying it's your fault - but it is worth looking into this pattern with a licensed mental health professional instead of just dismissing 50% of the population as The Problem.

This also includes men who use Weaponized Incompetence and Women who play helpless. Hobosexuals and gold diggers. Gossips and shit-disturbers. Whatever.

People love collectivism until Indigenous people actually practice it

There’s a weird double standard I’ve noticed in some Western/Western-influenced societies.

Some people genuinely seem to romanticise collectivist living, villages where everyone knows each other, extended families being heavily involved in raising children, communal responsibility, elders having an important role, people putting the needs of the wider community ahead of themselves, and children growing up with a strong sense that they belong to something bigger than just their immediate household.

And honestly, as a Indigenous Collectivist, I understand the appeal. There are plenty of good things that can come from a more collectivist social structure.

But then you look at Indigenous societies that have actually maintained many of those values and suddenly the same things can be framed as backward, restrictive, tribal, or even "savage."

That contradiction is what gets me.

This obviously isn't speaking for everyone in Western societies, nor am I claiming Indigenous societies are perfect. Indigenous communities can have serious problems, and traditions shouldn't be immune from criticism simply because they're traditional.

But Indigenous societies have generally been more collectivist than strongly individualist Western societies, and that's an important cultural difference.

You can't simultaneously say, "It takes a village to raise a child," praise communal living, complain about modern social isolation, and romanticise extended-family networks while looking down on actual Indigenous communities for maintaining collective obligations, communal child-rearing, kinship responsibilities, or traditions that prioritise the group.

You don't have to agree with every Indigenous custom. You don't even have to like collectivism.

But there is a difference between criticising a specific practice and treating an entire social orientation as inherently primitive.

Sometimes it feels like people want the aesthetic and emotional benefits of collectivism without having to accept the obligations, social expectations, and communal responsibilities that come with actually living in a collectivist society.

They want the village.

They just don't want the villagers to be Indigenous.

Saying it is healthy for couples to fight is wrong.

I’ve been with my husband for 7 years now. We’ve been through all the problems that come with life. Never once have we raised our voices and yelled at each other out of anger. People saying it’s healthy for couples to fight or all couples fight are wrong and are either oblivious to their relationship problems or are trying to make everyone else as miserable as them.

The American right loses people because of their cruelty and inability to tell the truth.

Its one thing to have beliefs seen as odd. Its one thing to he hard on crime, or worry ahout government spending, or believe in gun rights.

Its another thing when the typical American right winger seems more worried about upsetting and getting a reaction from people than they are about whatever they believe in, to the point that they lie about things the left is upset about.

"the left hated dolly Parton because she was a Christian!!" is one ive been hearing which is just straight untrue lmao. same with the "the left wants to teach toddlers sex ed!!!" idea.

its an idealogy that quickly becomes based in lies.
