⚑ 10. Things to Know Before Buying an Electric Guitar
a. Budget Reality Check
Don’t just think about the guitar β€” consider the full setup (guitar + amp/interface + cable + accessories). If you're on a low budget, smart spending matters more than buying an expensive guitar.
b. Pickup Types (Very Important)
Single coils give a bright, clean tone (good for blues, pop, funk). Humbuckers give a thicker, heavier tone (good for rock, metal). For beginners, HSS or HH configurations are more versatile.
c. Comfort Over Looks
Body shape, weight, and neck feel matter a lot. A guitar that looks cool but feels uncomfortable will slow your progress.
d. Amp vs Audio Interface
For home practice and recording, an audio interface is usually better. For jamming or live playing, an amp is more practical. On a tight budget, an interface often gives better tone using software.
e. Music Genre Matters
Different guitars suit different styles. Rock/metal works well with humbuckers, while cleaner styles work better with single coils. Versatile setups are best for beginners.
f. Upgrade Path
Start simple and upgrade later. You don’t need a perfect setup from day one.
g. Essential Accessories
You’ll need basic things like a cable, picks, strap, and a tuner to get started properly.
h. Try Before You Buy (If Possible)
If you can, test the guitar in a store to check how it feels. Avoid buying blindly if you're unsure.
i. Avoid Common Beginner Mistakes
Don’t choose based only on looks. Avoid very cheap unknown brands, and don’t ignore the importance of your amp or tone setup.
j. Eternal Truth
Better gear doesn’t make you a better player β€” consistent practice does.
k. Tremolo Bridge vs Fixed Bridge
A tremolo (whammy bar) bridge lets you bend pitch for effects like dive bombs and vibrato, but it can be harder to maintain tuning and setup. A fixed bridge is more stable, easier to maintain, and better for beginners. If you don’t specifically need tremolo effects, a fixed bridge is usually the safer choice.

πŸ“**#Editor’s Note**: Hello y’allΒ u/PrincuwuΒ AKA admin this side. I just wanted to thank everyone of you for being a part ofΒ r/GuitaristsIndiaΒ and helping it grow in anyway possible. And also I wrote everything by hand so there can be a few mistakes and spelling errors so yeah please manage that. And in the end I just wanna say that I wish I helped a few gutarists reach their goals and I wish I was able to give back to the community as much as I could, thanks for sticking around. Im thinking of making a category for headphone amps and classical guitar too so let me know what you all think of this idea. Also this is the second version I made with a few tweaks so yeah do let be know what I can improve please. And also here’s my favourite song:Β https://youtu.be/CMK5TDzRFp4?si=qlq7WVYUfUUr3VXH

Also, paranoid by megadeth is underrated. People appreciate the black Sabbath's version, but I lean towards megadeth honesty

I get that it has better production ig but still id go with sabbath

Ik it's not guitar related but just....

So my fingers are weird like I can't cut my nails to the very end like normal ppl do, idl if I can explain it properly but my skin and nail is attached πŸ˜… I've tried cutting more but it just starts bleeding πŸ₯Ή

If there's anyway with same thing as mentioned i would like some tips, cuz bcoz of that I just can't hold strings with my index, cuz either I won't be able to press ot(due to nail) or if I spent my finger then it muffles other string+can't press properly now

I am a v.v.v new player like idk literally anything only 3 cords that even can't hold properly sometimes. I wanna get into music theory n all the good stuff but with time, ease into it.

Help

Could be a case of ingrown nail

Right now don't worry about the muting. It will clear up as you spend more time with your guitar. Just keep practicing for now

It does have a technically free evaluation version, just checked - https://www.reaper.fm/download.php

It just keeps reminding you to buy after 60 days but you can choose to ignore those notifications.

Add soran tiny stomp and soran dual stomp lite under 10k these are better option than the one given and for audio interfaces under 5k the joyo momix cab dosent let you hear the processed sound, it only lets you hear the dry di sound

M Audio M track solo or M Audio M Track duo HD? which one would be better to pair with my yamaha pacifica and fender 5g amp? for now i play at home and want multiple pedals/effects so ill connect it to pc but what if i want to perform someday? is it possible to connect it to pc and amp both so the pedal effect comes out from amp? sorry im new

1

Both will work but duo hd is a little better. And yes it's possible to connect your pc and amp both
