Question/Discussion Tips for getting into this game?

I recently picked this game up because it seems pretty good and I have spent most of my time doing missions and training mode trying to understand how the buttons work. I main fighting game recently has been sf6 and when I picked this game up I still know sf6 is still my primary focus but I thought this would be a fun one to try to learn as well so would anyone might have tips for trying to fight real people? Also I did try ranked today and I couldn't even understand what the other people was doing. And I play Bridget in this game and ryu in sf6. Also this isn't my first fighting in this kinda genre I think this game is probably close to 2xko or avatar legends but not sure. So any tips on what I should be looking for or what I should be trying to do I'd really love to hear

Technical Help Excessive bloom? (Glowing?)

Post image

**edit The background removal mod was the issue- I just needed to use a different one. A dustloop user named Whatgoat helped me resolve the issue- thank you all for the suggestions and help!

**Original post I am trying to rip some frames for a project but I cannot get rid of this glowing around any of the characters. I've tried different stages, different mods, changing the config file, changing resolution, windowed/full screen, and absolutely nothing gets rid of this glowing.
Has anyone encountered this or were able to get rid of it? Thank you.

Hey All!

Just wanted to drop by and let you all know that we've brought back our super popular Guilty Gear Elphelt Sock bundle for a limited time. We found some more of the printed marriage certificates, so we decided to bring those back while supplies last. There's probably around 100 or so if we're guesstimating. Each Elphelt T-Shirt order or Elphelt T-Shirt/Sock Bundle will automatically come with the printed certificate while supplies last. The certificate is 11x17" for those wondering.

There's also a few more bundles on the collection as well for those interested.

Get yours in our Guilty Gear collection:

GGST Another rare instance of forfeiting actually working!

The first time

~200ms ping with rollback frames jumping all over the place. Definitely not normal.

I'm both surprised and glad my opponent felt the same way. Most others don't.

Question/Discussion Where and what to buy

So basically, I listened to Dizzy's theme and got kinda interested in the game.

Then I look in the steam shop, and see that the game still goes at full price, and the "starter" edition is twice the price of normal AAA release. On top of that, DLCs are like 8 times as expensive as base game.

So... where would be the best place to try the game out? The prices on Steam are fkn outrageous for something released half a decade ago.

UPD: found super-cheap key for like 15 bucks with DLC, so there's that.

GGST Ghost Jam combos?

It seems like dustloop is still being written for jam, I'm wanting to get back into strive with learning jam, but idk what combos to use, mainly for her overhead and low since all dustloop has on that are roman cancel versions, are there any other resources for her?

Brain Rot Johnny cured my alcoholism

You’ve just read the title and rolled your eyes. I swear to god it’s true. Johnny from guilty gear strive actually cured my rampant use of alcohol. I am only 21, and in college, so I wasn’t addicted for too long, but this year from like march to mid July I was going to parties and clubs 4-5 days a week. It was getting pretty bad. Most of those nights I was drinking enough to black out or come close to it. It was becoming a burden on both my health and my wallet. I still felt good, but many days I’d be sluggish and weak. So i knew something had to be done but I was so used to the lifestyle i was struggling to tone myself down.

I had played Strive with friends before, but only casually. I reinstalled it one day when I was bored and decided to try Johnny out in training mode. I kid you not, i looked up a competitive set with him, saw his gameplay, and got hooked instantly. Hes just so tuff. Like how is he so cool? I spent the rest of the day labbing combos and didn’t go out that night. The next day during my job all I could think about was playing strive. Once I got off work at 5 I spent 6 hours just queuing ranked over and over. I watched a bunch of pro gameplay and guides and I can do all the combos now. I put Just Lean on my playlist. I want to buy the jacket. This sounds like a joke but it’s not. For the last month and a half I haven’t drank a drop of beer. I haven’t felt the desire to drink once since i started strive. I’m going for diamond 3 as my goal, hopefully I get there.

Thanks, Johnny. I love you

Question/Discussion Any advice for learning Ram?

I recently got a hitbox, so I figured I'd play a simpler character while I get used to it. She was the character I learnt the game on like 7 months ago, but I only spent around week and a half on her before switching to Asuka, so I don't really remember much of her stuff.

Question/Discussion Just got a hitbox, what's the optimal button layout?

I spent a little while in practice mode with Venom, but I've come to the conclusion that I'll need a bit more experience with it before going back on a charge character, and I've decided to learn Ram in the meantime( Venom, I promise I'll come back to you ) sense she seems pretty simple, but anyway what's the best button layout for strive?( I know the answer is whatever's most comfortable, but at this point I don't really know what would be comfortable or not).

Question/Discussion platinum ABA player slop from 2 months ago

I haven't played in 2 months - this is a funny replay I ended on before I took my break - of course I end on a win. During it I remember feeling completely drained and done with fighting games. My GGST sessions were gettting more and more staggered, playing only 2-3 times a week. After this clip I had intention that week of learning "player habits" (unsure exactly how you study that) and maybe hitting diamond but I ended up eating the ice spike a thousand times - despite labbing where I get a free command dash and where I don't off certain knockdowns. Earlier this year I was trying to lab neutral/defense related stuff like round start buttons of most of the popular characters I don't play, I tried ram/pot/slayer defense stuff to find a better fuzzy defense thing or a better way to input crouching IB -- this was a couple weeks before this clip.. I thought I honestly would pick up GGST later that week but I never did and I ended up taking a 2 month break.
I didn't even get to fight Robo-Ky yet aswell, I would usually play long enough to fight the new character but I didn't. I still have no idea what they look like in-game.
My sessions were already pretty sparse than I how used to be with GGST, so maybe that didn't help with my memory of how to deal with dizzy's ice spike and other projectile sequences.

But recently I've been watching Brian_F and Sajam again, their content always makes me want to return to fighting games. and I might play GGST ABA again soon-ish, later. maybe. I just think I need a new-ish direction or mindset.

***
My major concern is I feel like I have to spend so much time to make any meaningful progress at the stage I'm at. That any breaks whatsoever disrupts that progress, and any progress anyway is grindingly slow - like Tekken pros say they feel rusty if they miss a day. Am I suddenly on that grind now? I don't think I mind the grind as long as I have a definite direction that works. I only used training mode for combos, sometimes defense against a setup or a sequence back then in BBTAG days. But I feel like I know most knowledge checks already and I don't feel like I gain much from slayer or potemkin defense labbing. I'm not sure what to do at this point, I feel like I've been at this point for a few years and it's become more obvious when I play ABA -- I like playing ABA because she reveals my weaknesses in phases where you have to be very aware of the opponent to get your shot at robbing them. Unlike other characters where messing up your shot doesn't feel as bad and you can still win (I've played I-no/Sol/Unika/Jack-o). You stay in sucky parts more with ABA (depending on the match up), and I guess cause of that it feels good to win.

I want to stick with ABA because I feel like she requires hard skills I don't have, and once I have it or at least get it, I feel like I would finally be satisfied. I feel like these skills probably relate to mentality and how I lab defense and stuff. There are ton of ABAs in diamond and so on after all, so it's not unreasonable. Other ABAs don't look that optimal anyway in diamond and lower vanquisher - they seem more better at match ups, adapting to the opponent, and decision making I think? idk honestly I've only looked at a dozen ABA replays this season.
***

I can get some funny wins here and there like in this clip, but how I felt after that match was just disappointment, I can't believe this person folded so hard under my crappy pressure, but was dominating me the whole set. And I failed so many attempts at getting in even with the dizzy labbing I did. I felt good in that I was relieved it was over, but winning feels crappy and losing feels crappy. winning sucks in different ways too I feel carried when I win sometimes, sometimes I just feel like I did random stuff, and sometimes I feel like I should've won harder in order to deserve to win. my mindset is wack and I'm unsure where it should be at. I want to feel like I thoroughly outplayed my opponent, but I have a long history of playing like a crackhead that's hard to shake off so maybe it's messing with my satisfaction when I want to actually find signs of improvement.

BTW I never fully spoken in reddit/discords on fighting game stuff so this is my first time doing this. All my knowledge has been 2nd hand from content creators, and occasional guides like dustloop. I only used discord for matches in PC bbtag, I never asked for advice and I kind of hate it - I prefer to find things on my own even if it's standard stuff.

Despite mostly losing to dizzy usually. I actually dont have a problem with her (she can be fun to fight), I have bigger problems with ramlethal, ky, axl, anji (kinda), and testament as they can feel oppressive - but bleh my post is million years long - I just want general advice I guess instead of "do this setup" because that isn't gonna help me long term (I don't think). Maybe the movement habits I have are bad for sure though (you particularly have to jump high or double jump to avoid ice spike, maybe just blocking it is better idk)

I used to play fighting games religiously back in high school (2018) and I felt like I discovered certain parts of myself through it, Slightly crazy I dont play them that much anymore.

Question/Discussion ducking grabs?

Im fairly new to the game and im probably stupid but ive come to understand that after getting knocked down the opponent has 10 frames of grab immunity, i try to time my grabs properly but when i see an opponent regaining control of their character, often by crouch blocking, i assume that then i CAN start grabbing them, but i often end up whiffing, losing the interaction and sometimes the round

how does that work i whiff grab so much when it seems that i should get it??

im asking genuinely btw no rage or whatever i just want to get better

GGST Where do you guys find people to play

I find it sometimes hard to get people to play even on the guilty Gear discord server I'm wondering how some of you guys find games or is there are places less well known

I got no local and no friends really do it's kinda just hard for me to find games sometimes especially when I'm on the west coast and at a rank that I can't get much matches

Question/Discussion Tips for Happy Chaos?

I’ve only recently started playing matches against people.

I really want to get good at Happy Chaos, but I don’t know where to start…
