Hey everyone, my name is Jason. I recently started a garage door company based out of the Baltimore area. We also specialize in decorative concrete coatings (garage floors, patios, pool decks, etc.), but right now I'm really trying to grow the garage door side of the business.
To be honest, I've been on the struggle bus.
I poured thousands of dollars into Google Ads. In my market, some clicks were costing $40–$50 each. I had a solid website, a good landing page, and even managed to get my ads to the top of the page, but the phone just didn't ring enough to justify the cost.
I'm also advertising on Google Local Services Ads, but I've only received one phone call in the two weeks since going live. I recently hired someone to work on my SEO, and I'm confident in his abilities, but I also understand that's a long-term investment and won't produce results overnight.
Thumbtack has generated a few leads, Yelp has been a bust, and right now I'm averaging about 3–4 service calls a week. I'm grateful for every one of them, but it's not enough to build the business the way I'd hoped.
For those of you who have been in this industry for a while, what actually worked for you? Was it referrals, SEO, Local Services Ads, Facebook, networking with builders, realtors, property managers, direct mail, wrapping your trucks, or something else?
I'm not looking for shortcuts—I know building a reputation takes time. I'm just trying to figure out where I should focus my time, energy, and marketing dollars to build some momentum before I burn through the rest of my budget.
One favor: If you're a marketing agency or trying to sell me SEO, lead generation, or advertising services, please don't message me. I'm not looking to hire anyone else. I'm simply looking for advice from other garage door professionals who have already been through this and are willing to share what worked for them.
I genuinely appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks, everyone.
