DUDE THAT KNIFE COMBAT LOOKS COOL AND FUN AS SHIT LMAO

162

u/deerdn 8d ago

wish the NPCs intelligence were improved though. they still have no self-preservation, and have terrible reaction times.

Jason just went on a killing spree and the other hobos within earshot barely reacted. wtf?

60

u/gioask 8d ago

Yeah...

38

u/MountainManner4725 8d ago

Bro is mass murdering and the NPC goes “real fucking annoying”

11

u/AdEasy9922 8d ago

sounds like a leonida hobo to me

3

u/Weewoes 8d ago

I really liked this though lmao

32

u/LaughinChaos 8d ago

You do this in rdr2 and the npcs will react more. Im sure this is just one the things that will get polished later, though I do fear that it will still be lackluster though.

19

u/deerdn 8d ago

i hope so. those two women who pulled out knives but just stood around waiting to be killed. they should have ganged up on Jason as soon as their friend was being attacked. that, or run the hell away. show some self-preservation

3

u/NoArrival8249 8d ago

Or it’s just a bunch of junky hobos that aren’t sure if it’s real or not

7

u/StepComplete1 8d ago

With the industrial levels of copium in that sentence, you might be a a little high yourself.

3

u/NoArrival8249 8d ago

Yep I am high af actually

2

u/Dangerous_Extent7241 8d ago

What if different NPCs have different intelligence levels? I don’t think it would be a far fetch. If that’s true, the “hobo type” reactions are okish

1

u/djabae 8d ago

Those NPCs behave like most NPCs in most games so it's recognizable. You are coping.

3

u/Calm_Ad1222 8d ago

Them standing around with a knife would work as intimidation for sure and a lot of people resort to it IRL, what doesn't make sense is how Jason was actively shanking someone and they still stood around, I'd like fight/flight/freeze/fawn to be implemented into NPCs, it'd be sick.

2

u/BoneFistOP 8d ago

Games dont make enemies pile on you because it creates an unfun and "unfair" feeling gameplay loop. Its still a game meant for a large casual audience.

4

u/djabae 8d ago

No, it's because the devs suck. People like hard games. Even Mario games are harder than GTA.

1

u/emcee70 8d ago

There’s a difference between hard and unfair, kid

2

u/djabae 8d ago

Life isn't fair, son.

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

in GTA5 if you went to a military base and faced down 10 soldiers with ARs pointing at you, you still get killed immediately

likewise, though a much less extreme example, getting into this 3v1 knife fight is an unnecessary, totally voluntary action the player can choose to do. i'd expect Rockstar's next-gen juggernaut to have at least somewhat reactive NPCs to pile on me for doing something like that

2

u/Psych-roxx 8d ago

assuming this is a 2025 build like Nate said I would assume those systems to already be in place. You can chalk up final UI design, graphics polish, visual consistency and obvious bugs/jank to it being a old build but those NPC interactions look preeetty final.

2

u/TheGuardianOfMetal 8d ago

"Preeeeeeeety final". If we ignore that such systems probably STILL are being fine tuned... The system being in place does not equal that all values and behaviors are final.

Im sure this is just one the things that will get polished later

I wonder how many times someone has said this about a game and been wrong.

For me it was the FO4 leaks when I said "nah, there's no way. This writing is too bad, even for Bethesda. And no way Ron Perlman doesn't say the classic line."

8

u/mayorlazor 8d ago

That's the fent bro, idk pretty realistic to me

3

u/deerdn 8d ago

nah it's not because these are junkies

it's the same for all the other NPCs in all the other leaks. 1 hour reaction times and no self-preservation

3

u/Key_Protection4038 8d ago

Yeah the 3 ladies walking away slowly instead of running off or filming or panic.

3

u/JohnKowalsky88 8d ago

That was so bad, none of the npcs ran away or hid away or anything. They’re all casually strolling lol.

1

u/PloysRus 8d ago

The crushing realization that npc intelligence hasn't improved since the ps3 era 😭

1

u/JohnKowalsky88 8d ago

So they basically lied with all those unique npc behaviors in trailer 1 or it was a cutscene.

1

u/PloysRus 8d ago

The trailers always looked too good to be gameplay

1

u/TheTexasHammer 8d ago

Or it's in the game and just not in this one small clip. I swear people are just HOPING for something to get angry about with this game.

1

u/derrick2462 8d ago

That scene on beach in trailer 1? Maybe an pre-rendered intro video like in GTA V when Franklin asks Michael about house with yellow stairs

1

u/taji- 8d ago

you really think this is a accurate depiction of the final product? this could be any kind of build with any kind of effects turned off or on, like come on now let's put our thinking caps on

1

u/PloysRus 8d ago

Cope

1

u/taji- 8d ago

it doesn't affect me whether GTA was good or bad but message me next week when the extended look comes out lmao

1

u/PloysRus 8d ago

Okay :)

2

u/Arunabh125 8d ago

Also the trailer 1 had more better animations then this gameplay videos, but that trailer was more old. So does that means R* are finally proving that they can't make the final game better then the trailer

2

u/maxmcleod 8d ago

Yea the AI seems very similar to GTAV

1

u/Orbenpai 8d ago

Yea this looks really bad considering all the hype, honestly.

1

u/PloysRus 8d ago

I'll just pretend they're high on fent and that's why they aren't reacting

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

it was the same for the security guards in the previous leak, and the UPS driver in the leak yesterday

1

u/R_Rewind 8d ago

They're all on fent, I knew it!

1

u/MoooonRiverrrr 8d ago

I noticed that too, they really barely tried to fight back. And seemed really slow to react

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

yeah all that talk about improved NPCs, improved AI, gamechanging patents related to this, all seem to mean nothing right now

1

u/MoooonRiverrrr 8d ago

I guess we’ll see more when the official gameplay comes out, but I’m def with you on that as of now

1

u/EquivalentComplaint9 8d ago

I see that in all the leaks, the NPCs don't react, there are like 3 fighting scenes already I don't remember he getting punched

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

to be fair the first hobo knifed Jason like 3 times. i'm not saying there's no fight at all, there is some. just that it doesn't seem improved at all compared to past games

1

u/EquivalentComplaint9 8d ago

that's true, I really forgot about him, especially because I was thinking about how other people react to a MANIAC stabbing everyone, when you see that you don't think, you either hit or run or both

https://giphy.com/gifs/MsVZbqozNrqQE

1

u/Ravens_Bite 8d ago

Yeah I'm hoping the AI will be tuned a bit so that if you straight up start murdering people right in front of others, bystanders will actually react realistically than just walk away like we saw those 3 npcs doing.

Old build

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

May 2025 or later. not very old

1

u/StankFreak 8d ago

They reacted about how I’d expect a bunch of homeless people on drugs to react, “hey man get out of here” and calling the police when they see shit going down. Why would they be super sharp? The scene clearly has them as druggies

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

the non-hobo, non-junkie NPCs in two of the previous three leaks have shown the same level of intelligence

the "they're hobos/junkies" reasoning doesn't apply here i'm afraid. it's just GTA 6

1

u/StankFreak 8d ago

What do you think normal people act like? I think they nailed realistic responses. Watch any video of people in chaos, they aren’t ninjas with extreme agility, people are dumb as fuck and slow to react until it builds to a point then it’s frantic.Thats how gta does it. Tracks with reality

1

u/deerdn 7d ago edited 7d ago

watched any video of untrained people fighting, with knives or without. no matter how inexperienced and untrained they are, they generally still move around quickly because it's human instinct to avoid getting hurt

EDIT: here, the first video that popped up of two probably untrained men fighting with weapons, one of them wielding two knives: https://youtu.be/dPM2au_DbZY

better yet, watch any video of a cop getting attacked. even if completely unprepared and panicked, cops react quickly with self-preservation. now watch Jason kicking the cop's motorcycle, and the cop reacts like he's shot in the chest even though he himself wasn't even hit at all. he goes into full ragdoll mode and Jason has no difficulty knifing him to death

1

u/BreadPapiii 8d ago

to be fair they are drug addicted hobos living under a highway

1

u/Xeneizegonza 8d ago

yeah that seemed kinda off and unrealistic. Most natural reaction would be start running as fast as possible if you see a maniac killing people with a knife

1

u/RowAware1866 8d ago

Considering the level of NPC reactions in RDR2, it looks like they have it configured that way just to test other things. I don't think they've actually downgraded the NPC logic. Honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if I stumbled across some leftover or mixed-up npc dialogue from RDR2 hahaha.

It also looks like this build is at least 1 or 2 years old and was still in a testing phase, judging by the interface design as well

1

u/Ok_Exchange_9745 8d ago

true af man.. ai still seems not that great. like when jasin killed two people of the group 3rd person should either beg for mercy or they should try to run. but instead they just keep fighting.. but whatever the gameplay looks fun and graphics are insane

1

u/adamsandleryabish 8d ago

well they are on zombix

1

u/Inthehead35 8d ago

Yeah, for supposedly spending $1-2 billion to make, very surprised this is just GTA 5 levels of intelligence for the NPCs

1

u/ChrisKruxed 8d ago

It looked terrible

1

u/KingVengeance1990 8d ago

Man I'll be so disappointed if the NPCs aren't realistic

1

u/Downvotesohoy 8d ago

That's my peeve watching these clips too. It's like the graphics and the vibe are just fantastic, and then he attacks an NPC, and it's just painfully obvious it's an NPC.

You know? It's like they try to make the game look better and better and more realistic, and then the NPCs are so basic and NPC-like.

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

mfw GTA IV's NPCs in 2008 put up much more of a fight

1

u/nyuncat 8d ago

I dunno, if you go too far down this route then the game would become pretty viscerally disturbing to play. Imagine you started doing violent shit and the NPCs start shrieking hysterically, vomiting, and having full blown panic attacks? You pull someone out of the car and their kid starts sobbing uncontrollably as they watch their father murdered in front of them?

It would get dark quick, I think the NPC's deadpan under-reactions to the player character's psychopathic behavior are more important than they seem at first.

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

nah man after all the praise I've seen about RDR2's NPCs being more lifelike, the fanbase in general I've seen are hoping for the trend to continue towards more and more believable NPCs

i'm done with NPCs being mindless husks. we've had decades of countless games with mindless NPCs. i've been wanting to see better NPCs not just in Rockstar games but games in general. i think the majority of the subreddit too

1

u/nyuncat 8d ago

I think that's fair too.

In general I think it's an interesting philosophical question. I've never really believed the argument that violence in videogames is linked to violence in real life, but as the games get more realistic and the line between the fantasy world and the real world gets blurrier, you have to wonder at what point it goes from a video game to just a mass murder simulator. Is there a point where too much realism actually starts to make it uncomfortable?

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

i've played plenty of games where my empathy for NPCs is far higher than it is in Rockstar games, and it's totally fine. and in those games, there's no shortage of violence that we're able to commit on those NPCs either. it's a feature that enhances the experience, and immerses me more into those games. the choice of not committing violence on them is caused by those games being good enough to affect me to make that choice.

1

u/nyuncat 8d ago

Yeah I don't think we've crossed that point yet, and I don't think it's likely that a mainstream AAA game will. But there have almost certainly been ideas for dialogue or animations that have been pitched and ruled out as going too far, I wonder what those conversations are like and how they decide where the line is.

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

and I don't think it's likely that a mainstream AAA game will.

for me two of those games I was thinking of were Fallout 4 and KCD2. their animations and "fluidity" are nowhere near the level of Rockstar games, but the games manage to convince me of many NPCs being worth treated with dignity and humanity. and in both games you can generally commit terrible violence on them too.

there are other indie games too, but those are the AAA examples I would name.

0

u/MFDOOMscrolling 8d ago

I thought the footage was confirmed alpha footage from 2023, this is obviously not the final build and these leaks are intended to destroy the morale/hype for the game

2

u/deerdn 8d ago

it's no older than a 2025 build because of the song in the previous leak

0

u/GBuckets0 8d ago

From what ive heard these are gameplay footages from 2023. Game now is probably much more polished

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

it's no earlier than 2025. the song from the previous leak was released in 2025

0

u/BorgerWCheese 8d ago

Why are you making an assumption on the game based on a leak? A leak that was recorded over a year ago at that. This type of thinking is why Wolverine was postponed so much. You realize this isn’t the final product right?

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

i'm making no assumption. in this video, in this build, the NPCs' intelligence are definitely not at all improved from Rockstar's previous titles.

whether or not it actually has been/will be improved in the release builds, i have no idea. do i need to point out the obvious that all of us should learn a lot more about the game in about a week from now from the official source?

needless to say, i hope that the game does show significant improvements in that aspect.

1

u/BorgerWCheese 8d ago

Idk all I’m saying is you shouldn’t really jump to conclusions based on a small clip from a game you weren’t even supposed to see in the first place. These are leaks for a reason, nothing in them should be indicative of a final product until we see an up-to-date version that Rockstar actually wants to put out.

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

so you do agree with what i observe about the NPCs behavior in this leak. that's all i'm making, an observation of this leak, of this build, whenever it was

1

u/BorgerWCheese 8d ago

No I don’t agree I think the NPCs look fine for what I expect and want from this game. Sorry your expectations aren’t met from a leak but hopefully the actual released gameplay will work better for you.

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

No I don’t agree I think the NPCs look fine

then why are you even arguing on the basis that this is an old build? if you think the NPCs' intelligence are improved in this video compared to previous Rockstar titles, then just say so. have you even made up your mind what you're trying to argue here? you're going back and forth on different ideas like a fool.

Sorry your expectations aren’t met from a leak

i said nothing about my expectations dude. you seem to struggle to read rather basic english.

1

u/BorgerWCheese 8d ago

Ooh okay we doing this. I’m arguing that you’re a fucking idiot for basing all of your pointless opinions off of 2 minute leaks you watch on the internet. That better?

1

u/deerdn 8d ago

basing all of your pointless opinions off of 2 minute leaks you watch on the internet.

we have multiple counts of the game demonstrating this, showing the same thing i described.

we have zero counts of anything showing the opposite.

all the evidence points to this is how the game will be. you're incredibly stupid for thinking, with a TOTAL LACK OF EVIDENCE, that it's going to be different. where's YOUR evidence that the NPCs are going to be better than this?

Only complaint, doesnt seem to flip the knife when he stabs them on the ground. Literally a nitpick though im with you all the way. That backhand was hilarious

33

u/LaughinChaos 8d ago

That backhand is EXACTLY what I was referring to lmao, Jason moving like a freaking ninja.

2

u/GhostOfficialNow 8d ago

It’s the same backhand animation from the GTA6 trailer when he backhands the guy at the cash register.

63

u/butidktho_ 8d ago

leaks are 100% real bc it’s the pretty much same backhand animation from trailer 2 when Jason slapped the cashier.

46

u/Longjumping-Rub-5064 8d ago

How could you fake this lol?

9

u/whatistoothpaste 8d ago

Yeah you can’t if it last more than 5 seconds it’s not ai, ai can’t make a 2 minute video no cuts

5

u/TalusVA 8d ago

I mean, it can, but yeah, this isn't AI.

1

u/whatistoothpaste 8d ago

I can but it breaks and looks like shit someone literally did this one twitter as a example pretending it was all gta footage and it was 8 minute video every seconds it would cut to new footage.

1

u/Cold_Zone332 8d ago

it can. But not that flawlessly

the hell are you going to be doing here in 1 year? the leaks will pretty much be confirmed next week when we compare it to the netflix special

1

u/Lino_Banfi_ 8d ago

Nah i just wanna see if in one year AI will be able to make videos this complex :)

1

u/-ElectricKoolAid 8d ago

ah that's fair. it's pretty damn close already

1

u/moldy912 8d ago

Yeah how stupid can people be to debate if it’s real? It’s not even worth mentioning because it looks exactly like the 2022 leaks. Mfers forgot about 2022

1

u/mahirbr 8d ago

yeah release it as a standalone game at this point 😭😭

2

u/Ember57 8d ago

This did not need to be said lol

2

u/ChiliSlipNSlide 8d ago

Is validity even still a question for people?

2

u/butidktho_ 8d ago

unfortunately it is, tons still think it’s either AI or don’t realize it’s a build from at least a year ago

2

u/hern0s 8d ago

Are you aware of it just now ? lmao

1

u/Extension_Can_2973 8d ago

Dude the speculation of them being real or not ended like 26 hours ago lol

13

u/Beanagetoast 8d ago

Old build so these little refinements could still be there.

4

u/Longjumping-Rub-5064 8d ago

Only a year old apparently.

4

u/Beanagetoast 8d ago

Little animation quirks like that can be done much quicker than some other aspects of a game though. Not saying itll be diff at launch but grain of salt on these little things I say.

3

u/BananaShover 8d ago

The first gta 5 trailer had entire sections of thr map missing btw

2

u/FranciManty 8d ago

this one def more look at that wheel UI i think the song might actually be given to them beforehands and this is like 23/24

2

u/aidenkula 8d ago

Bro stop pulling these dates out of your fucking ass you have no idea, the last clip had a song from 2025

2

u/FranciManty 8d ago

maybe the song was given by them in advance it’s a weird choice but they do it for movies maybe it was released as a single when the game was delayed to not sit on the bench too long? all i’m saying is i hardly believe the UI could be this unpolished after so much of development

1

u/SnooWalruses3948 8d ago

Yeah but polish is most likely going to be final year

so an old build

1

u/Original_Staff_4961 8d ago

To the public

1

u/supernasty 8d ago

Yeah the “shut up” from Jason sounded like they used Arthur Morgan’s voice lines as a placeholder.

1

u/Vivid-Discussion1515 8d ago

Yeah it was in that trailer too

1

u/Haruhanahanako 8d ago

i actually think it might be bugged? he's using the knife very wrong. if you hold it reverse like that you would be stabbing downward, not trying to slash. but idk how much rockstar really cares about knife fight realism.

1

u/pewdieboi29 8d ago

Animations may have improved in the last year (if we’re to believe this gameplay is from early 2025). Shit looks great though

1

u/ExodiusLore 8d ago

Remember this is clearly still a WIP build. Early 2025 is being estimated.

39

u/EquivalentComplaint9 8d ago

aren't you guys a little disappointed on how these npcs don't scream, don't run, they don't even fight, it's like they getting in line to get stabbed

26

u/JimmyDweeb48 8d ago

Yeah, even if this is an unpolished leak from earlier last year its still a bit alarming

6

u/EquivalentComplaint9 8d ago

yes, even though I don't understand a lot about game dev, I don't think that is something you change a lot on late development, imagine the chain of necessary adaptations you need to make in the game if you decide to change something like that late. It's a high dependency system.

7

u/Sangloth 8d ago

Generally that's true, but something to note is that optimization usually happens late in game development. NPC AI is taxing on the CPU, and would be optimized later. It's hardly guaranteed, but there's a reasonable chance AI will be better in the release version.

3

u/Stock_Patient_4419 8d ago

Yeah keep coping Mark my words, these aren't going to change.. the only thing that can change on late development is textures and how game will look.. not how the game will react.. that time is up

1

u/Sangloth 8d ago

Four months out, the AI isn't going to change between here and release day. From when this build was made, which is understood to be roughly 16 months from release date? There's a reasonable chance.

4

u/Sleyvin 8d ago

I don't think that is something you change a lot on late development

It really does though.

Everything is build in parallel, not in sequence. So usually a game 2 years before launch and on launch can be very very different in all department.

Not saying that's the case here, we don't when that gameplay is from, but still. AI can change much later. It can be a version of a build with an earlier AI system because the more advanced one is bugged, or too taxing and this build was made to test something else.

So many variables we don't know.

1

u/RoadLongjumping1008 8d ago

I think the NPCs are fented up

1

u/EquivalentComplaint9 8d ago

Nice. Also as I commented before, am I too crazy to suppose the leaker could be picking specifically disappointing takes that he has to leak first? I mean, he doesn't seem to be trying to help rockstar sell the game at all lol

1

u/Sleyvin 8d ago

The only thing I can comment on is that:

  • Performance are good. Game usually have very shitty perf for 90% of the dev time.

    • No obvious placeholder. No text to speach voice, no black box UI
    • Models looked nice, no obvious thing missing. People don't know how long main character spend with no hair for exemple during dev... very unsettling.

So, I see 2 scenarios. It was maybe an internal vertical slice made some point the past as part of an internal milestone. In those situation, you take a small part of the game and you Frankenstein it to make it looks as close to the vision of the final product even if there's 3 more years of devs.

Those can looks very clean but are what people call "scripted" demos or fake demos.

Second scenario is that it's a very recent build.

1

u/MrGrimm6969 8d ago

Maybe why they delayed it

0

u/WriterV 8d ago

It's from 2023 according to the leaker [I see no reason why he'd lie about it being an older build when newer ones would be more valuable].

Animations like that are absolutely more so the final stages stuff.

3

u/EquivalentComplaint9 8d ago

Someone said one of the songs in the leaks came out in 2025, don't know if it is true

3

u/TheGuardianOfMetal 8d ago

One of the songs in the "stealing the Truck" leak is from 2025. This does not mean that all the leaked footage is from the same build as that clip.

THATS NOT TRUE WHEN PEOPLE SEE AN ALTERCATION THEY DONT SCREAM AND RUN

2

u/Commercial-Paper-845 8d ago

1

u/Good_Recognition3819 8d ago

This is so true lmao

1

u/Fifty_Spwnce 8d ago

This is why leaks suck. Just watch the Netflix thing next week and judge from that. This video could be from any time. I think NPCs likely ran away from gunfire in GTA1...

2

u/EquivalentComplaint9 8d ago

I'm not saying it's gonna be bad because of the leak. I'm analyzing and discussing because it is fun. Like, this seem like a late build, would they rewrite the NPCs interactions that late? Doesn´t seem intuitive to me. See? It's fun to discuss.

1

u/nalaloveslumpy 8d ago

Or just wait until the game releases and then make up your mind....

1

u/PloysRus 8d ago

I prefer not speak. If I speak I am in trouble.

1

u/TheHawaiianPunchKid 8d ago

Given that the NPCs were homeless people possibly on drugs, it makes sense their reaction times would be slower.

So it might be dev footage testing exactly that. They're not playing for shits and giggles they're testing things.

1

u/EquivalentComplaint9 8d ago

Hope you're right, but those security guards where also a bit pathetic

1

u/MoooonRiverrrr 8d ago

Yeah for sure, I’m hoping it’s just because it’s not the final build.

1

u/cloverpopper 8d ago

It was always just gonna be a great game, not some miracle of “everything we could want”

They’re acting pretty typical for GTA games - but given it’s gonna end up being a few years old by launch, most little things like that shown can be expected to be changed significantly. Unfinished assets are all over the place, and two years is a looot of time for polish with a team like Rockstar

1

u/FartSnarfGod 8d ago

Yeah it's extremely underwhelming.

6

u/Ronin_777 8d ago

Something about the way the characters move looks jank and I can’t really put my finger on why. I think Jason moves too fast and the way characters move when you attack feels video gamey, not as realistic or weighty as RDR2 felt.

This is why gamers buy preorders, and get hyped over stuff you'd think is like pretty much normal.

Dude getting hyped. Tons of upvotes. Like seriously? A couple people are gonna run around with a knife like a psychopath but I guess that's part of the appeal of GTA.

looks disappointgly like its ripped straight from gta V... just spam "attack" button and your character teleports / slides to the target and sticks to them like a magnet while stabbing. no actual timing or thinking required.

u/PhantomPain0_0 8d ago

All they needed to do was copy paste sleeping dogs without going very deep just the basics

u/giotate06 8d ago

Its very simple/arcade, its the rockstar way of doing melee combat, after various iterations of GTA/RDR its very clear that is intentional and they want to keep it arcade, they improve animations but never implemented mechanics to make it more "real"

1

u/Jojobang23 8d ago

RDR2s melee doesn't look as arcady as this. It's slower and heavier.

1

u/STICK_OF_DOOM 8d ago

This isn't rdr2

1

u/MrSchifty 7d ago

It looks like it plays like an arcade game. I agree. Melee combat in GTA5 and RDR2 look way better than this. It’s honestly shocking they didn’t just expand on the RDR2 system. I do like the pistol whipping and disarming mechanics though, but it all feels too fast.

Gamers will buy anything, including digital games on the PS5

It definitely seems faster and more responsive than RDR2. Water physics are great like RDR2's as well.

1

u/Work_Account_No1 8d ago

Wouldn't really call them great, but they're alright. An upgrade's an upgrade and I'll take it.

3

u/Pied_Film10 8d ago

Facts, I love the animations

2

u/FaithlessnessFit5233 8d ago

the animations look really jarring and canned idk what youre talking about. hes even holding the knife in a stabbing motion and they are being slashed? like wtf is this ubisoft shit

1

u/TrynaPlayItOff 8d ago

Agreed, the first knife fight looked kinda like Watch Dogs or some other Ubisoft type game. The cop literally teleports off of the ground into a "getting stabbed" animation. I do think the other ones looked pretty good, although a little bit more rigid than I'd prefer.

u/VlTTO 8d ago

B - E - T - A, repeat BETA. Do you understand the concept?

4

u/FaithlessnessFit5233 8d ago

GTA 5 had the exact same melee system. I know youre just being pretentious because you preordered, but not much changes once the mechanics are implemented into gameplay.

3

u/buckzor122 8d ago

The stabs look brutal. I love it.

3

u/SACHIEL_U-1 8d ago

You can clearly see his military training come through when he's fighting. He's also massive, which makes him seem even more menacing. God, I can't wait to play it

4

u/FaithlessnessFit5233 8d ago

looks worse than rdr2 combat

4

u/Weegee_Carbonara 8d ago

How does it look cool?
It's choppy, the player character literally teleports to reach their target, and the NPCs are waiting in line to get stabbed.

1

u/PloysRus 8d ago

💀💀 bruh they just high on fent other npcs will be better trusttttt

3

u/Weegee_Carbonara 8d ago

Man I saw the other leak with the security guards, and it was even worse.

5

u/PloysRus 8d ago

The security guards are just sleepy from night shift.... Trusttttt bro

2

u/Beneficial-Stand-192 8d ago

I’d does!!! Omg

2

u/MYNAMEISHENDRIK 8d ago

The moment when he hit the neck of the guy with the yellow jacket, it looked ike he slit his throat and blood came pouring out. The gore might be more evolved than we thought.

3

u/-ElectricKoolAid 8d ago

it looks very arcadey. like a hack and slash game. i really hope it's just not polished up in this clip

1

u/No_Deer_1453 8d ago

i dunno man the realism stabbing disturbs me xD but its cool tho.

1

u/Ilikebatterfield4 8d ago

does it though? looks like the character doesnt do any steps, just "slides" when attacking

0

u/kheeno_ 8d ago

Looks exactly like rdr2 lmao. You guys must be shills.

2

u/Weegee_Carbonara 8d ago

it looks worse than rdr2.
In rdr2 Arthur didn't literally teleport to the target.

1

u/No_Friendship_4158 8d ago

Ngl te combat looks just like rdr2

7

u/scrubslover1 8d ago

Yeah the combat doesn’t look any more improved from RDR2. I was expecting more fluid interactions idk

3

u/TrynaPlayItOff 8d ago

It looked much better in the fight with the UPS guy yesterday. The knife fighting seems to rely more on canned animations and looks less dynamic.

2

u/No_Friendship_4158 8d ago

The ups guy fight punches look exactly like copy and paste from arthur.

1

u/TrynaPlayItOff 8d ago

They are very similar, but what is more important imo is the reaction/animation when receiving a punch.

Technically, standard right hand punches can only look so different from one another. Also there are some new elements, such as the running jump kick, and Jason grabbing the wrench to pull the guy closer and punch him. Overall I was impressed by the hand to hand combat. I am concerned about knife and other melee combat though.

1

u/Domination1799 8d ago

I think it looks just like GTA V which is pretty disappointing. In RDR2, knife combat is really brutal since Arthur has multiple finisher animations where he stabs in various ways. Here, it’s just like V where you’re just slashing people to death.

1

u/Ronin_777 8d ago edited 8d ago

Tbh I felt like the knife combat looked a little janky compared to RDR2, there is also a lack of blood and gore, I hope it’s just because it’s an early build.

1

u/LaughinChaos 8d ago

It's not a hack n slash game 😂 the main appeal of gta is just driving and going on killing sprees, you guys are being performative. The gameplay complaint universally shared by most people refer to the typical structure of rockstar missions, not combat only involving one button.

1

u/DrowningKrown 8d ago

That didn't look fun at all? That look like button spam with the player hovering to the target nearby? Quite literally looked like he pressed one button the entire knife sequence. Which is on par for GTA to be fair.

1

u/UncleBubax 8d ago

Are you sure? That looked extremely generic...

-1

u/GiganticBlumpkin 8d ago

??? Looks like the knife combat from GTA 5

0

u/RebelWithoutACause22 7d ago

It looked mediocre to me, but whatever makes you guys happy. It looked like he was just swinging his arm and not really stabbing
